GRAVEL - Abandoned PA Rail Line
16 miles down the, richest railroad in the country, Cambria and Indiana (C&I) railroad grade. The Cambria and Indiana Railroad, originally named Blacklick and Yellow Creek Railroad (B&YC), was founded in 1904 by Vinton Lumber Company as a subsidiary company to haul its lumber. Soon after its construction, coal was found in the area and the subsidiary was subsequently purchased by John Heisley Weaver and B. Dawson Coleman for US $100,000 in 1910 to serve its coal interests in Cambria and Indiana counties.
C&I became the richest railroad in the country, generating the most revenue per mile of track, during the 1930s and 1940s.

New technology could crack the case in death of newborn

Police are hoping the public can help them solve a crime that happened 11 years ago to the day.
In 2003, a newborn was found dead in Lancaster County, ever since; police have been searching for the mother with no luck.
Now police are hoping the public will come forward with information, and new DNA testing can help them confirm the mothers identity.
For more than a decade, baby girl Allison, a newborn who was found dead at an Amish school in Strasburg Township on December 29th, 2003, has been at rest. The same Lancaster County trooper has been investigating the case hoping for a break. Now, a new DNA test called touch DNA could help them find the mother.
It wasnt available in 2003 when the baby was discovered, now that should aid in our investigation, Trooper Ryan Lawrence of Troop J with the Pennsylvania State Police said.
The only problem is State Police need someones DNA to test their evidence against and thats where police need the publics help.
Were just hoping that the community comes forward with possible relatives or the possible mother of baby Allison, Trooper Lawrence said.
While State Police are highly invested in this case, especially Trooper Jerry Sauers who has been investigating the case since day 1, one man in particular hopes someone will come forward with information, the man who named Allison.
Lester Cramer who buried Baby Allison said, Ill never give up hope, until the day I die I wont give up hope on it.
Lest Cramer heard about the unnamed babys death soon after it happened, and knew he needed to do something.
I felt she needed somebody, I couldnt help her, but the best I could do was give her a proper burial, said Cramer.
With the help of a funeral home and the cemetery, Lester was able to bury the unnamed infant, who he called Baby Allison. Lester says hes amazed and overjoyed that police are still working on the case to bring Baby Allison justice.
Im sure, I really feel confident, someday, because of the work that theyre doing that they will find out who did this, Cramer said.
Because Baby Allison was found as a newborn 11 years ago, police believe she was born just after Christmas. They ask anyone, if they noticed someone who was pregnant in 2003 leading up to the holidays, but never had a child with them, to come forward with the information.

This charming little ghost town — located an hour from San Diego — comes alive during the fall, when it celebrates the famous Julian apple harvest. Bring along a light jacket as you explore the town's quaint stores, restaurants and delicious homemade apple pies.
Julian's mining history dates back to 1869, when San Diego experienced its first (and only) Gold Rush. Today, Main Street is filled with dozens of fun shops and attractions. You can hitch a ride on a horse and buggy, do a bit of wine tasting, or get a Western-style portrait taken at Grandpa's Old Time Photo. To learn more about Julian's mining history, join a tour at Eagle and High Peak Mine, located at the end of C Street. Train rides are available on the Smith Ranch and Julian Railroad by appointment.
Kids will enjoy panning for gold at the Julian Mining Company, or getting an old-fashioned phosphate at the Miner's Diner soda fountain. But the real draw in Julian is the apple pie, and visitors are fiercely divided on who makes the best. I'm partial to Julian Pie Company, a cozy little diner with a loyal following. Be sure to get here early, as lines quickly form out the door.
Once you've had your fill of pie, walk off the calories with a tour of Julian's pioneer cemetery and historic Gold Rush buildings. The Jacoby Building, built in 1897, was the town's original general store. The Wilcox Building, which dates back to 1872, once served as a stage coach stop and Julian's post office.
If you want to spend the night, consider staying in the Julian hotels. The Julian Gold Rush Hotel, which was built in 1897, is one of California's best B&Bs, and well worth a visit.
