Kendall-Jackson's Santa Barbara County Vineyards
Located just 90 miles north from Los Angeles, Santa Barbara is one of the most unique wine regions along the California Coast. The valleys along the Santa Barbara coastline run east to west rather than north to south, resulting in ocean breezes that sweep through the region in a rare eastward direction. This geologic oddity provides a patchwork of microclimates and terrains, resulting in one of the most diverse grape-growing regions in the United States. The Santa Maria Valley, the county’s northernmost AVA and most famous, has the majority of its vineyards planted on elevated plateaus along the Santa Maria River mesa and Sisquoc River drainage. The soils are typically of marine origin and sedimentation from river wash. Learn more here:

Santa Maria California - Home Sweet Home
Santa Maria California
Video Is Diplayed In Good Faith Thankyou
In 1850, when California gained statehood, the rich soil drew farmers and other settlers, and the Santa Maria River Valley became one of the most productive agricultural areas in the state. Agriculture is still a key component of the economy for the city and the entire region.
Between 1869 and 1874, four of the valley's prominent settlers, Rudolph Cook, John Thornburg, Isaac Fesler (after whom Fesler Jr. High School is named), and Isaac Miller, farmed the land that today corners on Broadway and Main Street. The townsite map was recorded in Santa Barbara in 1875. The new city was first called Grangerville, then Central City. The city's name was changed to Santa Maria on February 18, 1885, because mail for the community was being sent by mistake to Central City, Colorado. Santa Maria comes from the name that settler Juan Pacifico Ontiveros had given to his property 25 years earlier.
The Santa Maria Valley saw oil exploration begin in 1888, leading to large-scale discoveries around the turn of the century. In 1901, Union Oil discovered the large Orcutt Oil Field in the Solomon Hills south of town, and along with a number of smaller companies began pumping oil. By the end of 1903, Union Oil had 22 wells in production. Several significant discoveries followed. In the next 80 years several large oil fields were found, and thousands of oil wells were drilled and put into production in the area. Oil development intensified in 1930s, with the discovery of the Santa Maria Valley Oil Field right underneath the southern and western parts of the city of Santa Maria, which spurred the City's growth even further.[3][not in citation given] By 1957 there were 1,775 oil wells in operation in the Santa Maria Valley, producing more than $640 million worth of oil.

Piedras Blancas Light Station - Full Location Review & History
Come visit the Piedras Blancas Light Station with us!
Piedras Blancas means white rocks in Spanish. Long before the establishment of a light station, Native Americans harvested the abundant natural resources at Point Piedras Blancas. Early mariners used the large white offshore rocks as navigational landmarks. In 1875, a light station was established at Point Piedras Blancas to aid maritime navigation. The lighthouse, with its distinct light pattern of a white flash every 15 seconds, assured mariners of their location and warned of the rocky coastline. For Tour Information, visit:

GreenIsGood - Lise Asimont - Francis Ford Coppola Winery
Lise Asimont started her career in the wine industry while studying anthropology at Saint Mary’s College of California. She devoted a junior thesis to the inner-workings of a small winery in the Russian River Valley. While there, she developed a love for winegrowing and went on to study with the Environmental Horticulture graduate group at the University of California – Davis with a specialization in viticulture. She studied under Dr. M.A. Walker at the University of California, and conducted her master’s research on grapevine rootstock resistance to root-knot nematodes. After graduating from UC – Davis, she was given the opportunity to work in Santa Barbara County for Cambria Winery as an assistant vineyard manager. In 2001, Lise moved to Sonoma County and worked in grower relations for Geyser Peak Winery, where all the vineyards in the entire state of California became her living classroom. - See more at:
