Morning bike ride in Camp Sherman
I love riding to the Camp Sherman store to get a newspaper. Beautiful views in a marvelous small central Oregon town. The Metolius River rocks! (via YouTube Capture)

Lower Bridge Campground: Located on the Metolius River, seven miles north of Camp Sherman Store, offers twelve campsites with a vault toilet, and piped water. Special activities include: fishing, trails, picnicking (picnic area at west end of bridge - no fee). Lovely for quiet camping. - please!

▶︎ Wake Up on the Rivers Edge
Riverside is a primitive campground directly on the banks of the Metolious River in the Camp Sherman area-- but I'd categorize it as primitive with convenience. The campground is just a few miles off of HWY 22, and about 10 miles away from Sisters (if you want to brunch while camping). The Camp Sherman General Store which is one of the greatest camp stores on the planet is a 20 minute walk from the campground on a riverside path (if you need an icecream sandwich, or a latte, or gluten free brownie mix). The sites are walk-in, but the car parking is about 50 yards from the sites -- so you can still easily access you car.
Each site is equipped with a picnic table, and fire ring. There are 2 pit toilets for the 16 campsites, and a 3rd at the Metolious Head a short walk away (the most primitive part about the experience). They were a bit smelly on our visit. There is access to a water pump for drinking water.
The sites are huge, and you can pay for additional tents and cars if you bring more than the max (I believe it was 6 campers and 1 car). We easily had 4 tents and 6 hammocks in the site with plenty of room.
Each site has a path to the river (which is freezing) and even though you can't see the river from your site, you can hear it all night long. You may also hear the coyotes.
From Riverside you're close to all the Camp Sherman hikes (it's also a hot spot for biking) as well as to Black Butte and Suttle Lake (warm enough for swimming). The campsite is dog friendly.

Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery
You can find bus friendly Wizard Falls Hatchery nestled in the Deschutes National Forest. Located in a park-like setting, families enjoy picnics, tours and general meandering among the facility’s grounds. With Atlantic salmon, brook trout, cutthroat trout, kokanee and rainbow trout, there are a number of fish to see. While in the area, consider fly fishing at the Metolius. You can get all your supplies, lunch and even a souvenir t-shirt at the Camp Sherman Store and Fly Shop. Just ask for Roger White. Trust us. There are also plentiful breathtaking hikes in the area as well as overnight amenities, whether you bring your bus or not. From spring greens to fall colors, there’s much to enjoy in this section of Oregon.

▶︎ My Go-To Spot on the Metolius
The Lower Canyon Creek Campground lacks in many common amenities, but it more than makes up for this with its seclusion and selection of quality sites.
Whether you're in the mood for fishing, hiking, exploring the back roads, or a relaxing get away, this is the place.
A few pro tips:
The dispersed camping spots you'll see along the Canyon Creek road are all free to stay. Spots on the main loop require payment at the information board.
There is no running water at this campground so plan ahead. The Camp Sherman store sells water at a premium down the road a few miles. Campers share a two-sided pit toilet. If you're staying in the dispersed sites, you'll have a decent walk each way.
There is a trail head at the far end of the campground. Don't miss this walk. Less than a mile down the path you'll find natural springs gushing from the side of a hill. Keep following this path to the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. If you have children, they'll love seeing the fish in all different stages of growth.
There is one dispersed site that is the absolute gem of the entire area. I won't give away this secret, but if you're looking, you'll probably find it. Please do everyone a favor and leave any site you stay in cleaner than you found it.

Favorite places in Sisters, Oregon
Here's some of the places I like to visit in charming Sisters, Oregon. The Paulina Springs bookstore is a can't miss. Currently the store lacks a sign on the street for some reason. It's the we welcome dogs place, and the source of the Erica Jong free book I got on the publisher's samples table. (via YouTube Capture)

Outside is a tricked out yard, sunny patio with furniture and charcoal BBQ. 2 car barn-looking garage to store all your gear. There is plenty of off street parking,
and 2 vintage bikes, appropriate for riding around town, but not trail bikes. If you are a serious bike rider or are planning to do much bike riding, we recommend you bring your own bike.
Come fish the mighty Metolius, Deschutes or Crooked Rivers and the many trout lakes nearby. Mountain bike on the new Peterson Ridge Trail System. Cycle the Sisters Scenic Bikeway. Hike in the Deschutes National Forest or further up high into the Three Sisters or Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. Rock climb at world renown Smith Rocks! Snowshoe, three pin, or downhill in the fluffy white stuff...or x-country or skate ski galore!
And if you just need down time; a chance to regroup, breathe, recharge the brain or detox, then throw away your keys, pull out your good book or visit Sisters: a self contained town... shop till you drop, walk to great dining or mosey on over to the best films rolling at Sisters Movie House. And please do sign our book!

Originally built in 1935 as the residence of the Sisters Forest Service Ranger District Manager, this home is now preserved and renovated in the heart of downtown Sisters, Oregon. It`s history includes being the sleeper house for the many volunteers of the Sisters Camp Sherman Fire Department.
