Driving in Sydney - Camperdown to Rosebery
Daily drive with me.
Camperdown is an inner western suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Camperdown is located 4 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district and is part of the Inner West region. Camperdown lies across the local government areas of the City of Sydney and Inner West Council.
Rosebery is an inner south suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 6 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government areas of the City of Sydney and the Bayside Council.
Rosebery has a mix of residential, commercial and industrial developments but the landscape is being redeveloped as high-density housing, displacing many industrial businesses and affecting the heritage of the suburb. This is happening in the northern parts of Rosebery and the adjacent Green Square.

Historic Electric Trains in Melbourne - Taits and Doggies: Australian Trains
A video featuring footage of Elecrail's superbly restored Tait and Dogbox electric multiple unit cars in action on the mainline in 2001 and 2002 before beurocrats and red tape confined these classic carriages to Newport workshops.
While Elecrail hope to get these trains back out on the rails and there are people working behind the scenes, it's unlikely to happen in the short term.

107 Cambridge St
14047_107 Cambridge
It seems trite to trot out the over-worn truism ‘change is inevitable’: but behind those bland t-shirt logo words stands unyielding fact. The implicit challenge, as architects, is how to effect change in a positive and meaningful way? Honouring the past while whole-heartedly saluting the future, 107 Cambridge Street, Collingwood takes that challenge on the chin.
Located in the former factories and warehouses of Foy & Gibson, this project shares a part of Australia’s history. Melbourne’s first department store, Foy & Gibson was part of the southern capital’s coming of age – a glamourous 19thcentury style temple on Smith Street that drew on the chic addresses in Paris and the United States, which soon spread into many other Australian cities. The nearby industrial facilities were no less elegant, designed by William Pitt, their red-brick facades have been landmark buildings in Collingwood – now one of Melbourne’s most desired inner-city neighbourhoods – ever since.
Now, Elenberg Fraser with developer Gurner TM, have put their own mark on this site, converting the Cambridge Street warehouses into sleek apartment residences. Like Mark Foy before us, we looked to international paragons for inspiration – New York City’s meatpacking district served as a model for contemporary, loft-style living. Rather than compete with the ornate heritage shell, we wanted to create a modern architectural counterpart, that would at once harmonise with the level of detail while offering contrast with the historic built form. The answer is a crisp, white intervention – a deceptively simple addition that upon closer inspection reveals delicate folded screens, reminiscent of Japanese artforms and matching the intricacy of the neighbouring brickwork. Scored diagonally, this fluttering gesture adds movement to the monochrome surface and indents and perforates the massing, which is broken up between the podium and upper level architecture.
Entering the building, residents are ensconced in the moody confines of a dark wood-lined library and mailroom, complete with chesterfields, forming a communal entrance lounge. A mirrored wall adds an extra dimension, amplifying the space.
We have emphasised the trademark volume of warehouse apartments – high ceilings and large, glass windows to pull in light, as well as flexible, modular spatial configurations. A predominantly monochrome palette adds to the sense of space and light, accented with detailing in industrial black metalwork and glints of aged brass.
The apartments also contain many of our own, distinctive touches. Repetition of form recalls ‘sculptures in the field’ such as Anish Kapoor’s mirrored public objects. Floating circles can be found in brass handles in the kitchen to bathroom mirrors, while suspended tubes support the vanity unit. Bespoke joinery is built around frames, creating useful and elegant ‘objects in space’ that are permeable rather than monolithic, such as the kitchen bench cum dining table, and full-height storage. Metallic details play with contrast: black metal frames surround perforated brass doors.
Interweaving local and global narratives, Cambridge Street blends industrial heritage with contemporary comfort and bespoke detailing. These are cosmopolitan environments fit for connoisseurs of international, urban living.

Trams in Sydney
The Sydney tramway network once served Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, Australia. In its heyday, it was the largest in Australia, the second largest in the Commonwealth of Nations, and one of the largest in the world. The network was heavily worked, with about 1,600 cars in service at any one time at its peak during the 1930s.
Throughout the first half of the twentieth century, an average of more than one tram journey per day was made in Sydney by every man and woman, infant and child in the city. Patronage peaked in 1945 at 405 million passenger journeys. The system was in place from 1879 until its winding down in the 1950s and closure in 1961. It had a maximum street mileage of 181 miles, in 1923.

Junee Steam Train Shuttles with 3265 - Day 1: Australian Trains
Over the weekend of 8 and 9 March 2014, Lachlan Valley Railway operated shuttles between Junee and Wagga Wagga in the southern riverina district of New South Wales for the QUBE Rhythm n Rail festival.
Motive power were two LVR 49 class diesels at the Wagga end and the Powerhouse Museum's steam locomotive 3265 at the Junee end, while the consist was an impressive 9 carriages from LVR and ARHS ACT.
The video commences with the 49 classes leading the first shuttle from Junee to Wagga Wagga between Harefield and Shepherds and then crossing the long bridge over the Murrumbidgee River floodplain on the outskirts of Wagga. We then see the return run of the shuttle with the 32 class leading this time racing back over the bridge and then climbing the grades between Harefield and Junee
Coverage of the second shuttle for the day commences with the classic EMD chant of the two 49's working hard as they climb the grade out of Junee before they roll past the silos at Shepherds. The return trip is again seen at Shepherds with the 32 racing arond the curve before an overhead shot of it arriving at Junee before a couple of shots in the station as the afternoon storm clouds gather overhead.
The third shuttle is seen approaching Harefield with the 49's on the lead and crossing the Murrumbidgee River floodplain bridge at Wagga Wagga before we see the return shuttle race over the bridge with the 32 class leading and then sprinting away from Harefield to conclude a day of heritage steam and diesel action on the New South Wales main southern line.

Outback Healers and Heroines: Women GPs in Rural Practice
There is a change happening in Australian medicine. Recent research has indicated that significant future workforce shortages are likely to occur in rural and remote areas of Australia over the next decade. This is due, in part, to the retirement of older rural male doctors. However, with increasing numbers of females entering the workforce, women are the next generation of rural medical practitioners.
Medicine and rural medicine in particular used to be an almost exclusively male occupation. Now, forty percent of young doctors taking up Australian rural general practice are female. Rural medicine is the point in the profession where the changes stemming from the presence of women will be felt first and most fully. Rural medicine is almost the only branch of the profession with a shortage of applicants. It needs more recruits than apply for positions. As a consequence it has to appeal to as wide a range of young doctors as possible, including women.
Presenter Dr Norman Swan is joined by a number of women GPs who are passionately committed to their rural practice. These include Sheilagh Cronin (Cloncurry and Gold Coast, QLD), Nola Maxfield (Wonthaggi, VIC), Ruth Stewart (Camperdown, VIC) and Angela Titmuss (Alice Springs, NT). These inspirational women share their varied experiences of working in rural Australia and discuss issues ranging from their practice models to their children's education and being part of a rural community.
Highlights are interviews filmed on location with Dr Jennifer Delima -- currently working in Alice Springs but who began her rural practice at Kintore (540 kilometres west of Alice Springs), and Drs Annette Newson and Elizabeth Parsimei (an International Medical Graduate from Kenya), who are partners in a group practice in Barmera, in the Riverland district of South Australia.
Outback Healers and Heroines is produced by the Rural Health Education Foundation, in association with the Rural Doctors Association of Australia in particular their Female Doctors Group, with funding provided by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Women in Rural Medicine
There is a change happening in medicine. Recent research has indicated that significant future workforce shortages are likely to occur in rural and remote areas over the next decade. This is due, in part, to the retirement of older rural male General Practitioners. However, with increasing numbers of females entering the workforce, women are the next generation of rural medical practitioners.

Rural medicine is almost the only branch of the profession with a shortage of applicants. It needs more recruits than apply for positions. As a consequence it has to appeal to as wide a range of young doctors as possible, including women.
There is now good evidence from Australia that while all doctors have a shared body of knowledge, there are different preferred working styles which can be identified as favoured by women and men. Research has demonstrated that in general, men value psychosocial aspects of health less than women do. They place less emphasis on wholistic care, practice less preventive medicine, deal with one problem at a time rather than the many which patients present with, do less counselling, and prefer to carry out procedures rather than deal with mental health issues.
Dr Norman Swan presents this very special program. He is joined by Dr Jenny May -- Chair of the RDAA Female Doctors Group - and several other women GPs who are passionately committed to their rural practice in locations between RRMA 3 and 7. These include Doctors Miriam Grotowski (Tamworth, NSW), Sheilagh Cronin (Cloncurry and Gold Coast,QLD), Nola Maxfield (Wonthaggi, VIC), Ruth Stewart (Camperdown, VIC) and Angela Titmuss (Alice Springs, NT). These inspirational women share their varied experiences of working in rural Australia and discuss issues ranging from their practice models to their children's education and being part of a rural community.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY
=======
Graffiti (both singular and plural; the singular graffito is very rare in English except in archeology) is writing or drawings made on a wall or other surface, usually without permission and within public view. Graffiti ranges from simple written words to elaborate wall paintings, and it has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire. In modern times, paint (particularly spray paint) and marker pens have become the most commonly used graffiti materials. In most countries, marking or painting property without the property owner's permission is considered defacement and vandalism, which is a punishable crime.
Graffiti may also express underlying social and political messages and a whole genre of artistic expression is based upon spray paint graffiti styles. Within hip hop culture, graffiti have evolved alongside hip hop music, b-boying, and other elements. Unrelated to hip-hop graffiti, gangs use their own form of graffiti to mark territory or to serve as an indicator of gang-related activities.Controversies that surround graffiti continue to create disagreement amongst city officials, law enforcement, and writers who wish to display and appreciate work in public locations. There are many different types and styles of graffiti; it is a rapidly developing art form whose value is highly contested and reviled by many authorities while also subject to protection, sometimes within the same jurisdiction.
