Murray River Mouth | Camping Film
The Murray River is Australia's longest river stretching 2508km.
Starting from the Australian Alps the river runs through the states of New South Wales and Victoria, finally reaching the state of South Australia where the Murray River empties into the southeastern portion of the Indian Ocean (also known as the Southern Ocean).
Whilst being Australia's longest river the Murray River, the river system is also Australia's most important irrigated region known as the food bowl of the nation.
The point where the Murray River enters the Southern Ocean is known as the Murray Mouth.
A few weekends ago, my wife and I along with some good friends took a few days out on Australia Day long weekend to overland to the Murray Mouth and camp along Goolwa beach. Whilst majority of the drive was on black top, the last 15 or so kilometers was on thick sand requiring 4x4 offroading all the way. Due to the long weekend traffic the beach sand was heavily churned up requiring low range in some places.
Despite the holiday traffic, we went towards the tail end of the long weekend so by the time we settled into our holiday most of the holiday makers had left, leaving the entire stretch of beach to ourselves.
The beauty of overlanding is not only do we get to see amazing places but also experience everything along the way too.
Enjoy everyone!

Goolwa – South Australia: Emma and the two Michaels are invited to Goolwa, South Australia to the fabulous Wooden Boat Festival. Michael Angelakis and Emma enter the ‘rough and ready’ boat building competition, where they have only a few hours to build a boat and sail it in the rough and ready race. Tensions run high as Emma tries desperately to nail the bottom of the boat on as Michael paints his name on the side, the end result is hilarious! Michael Keelan looks around the galley of an old Paddle Steamer and decides its beaut old wood fired oven would be fantastic to cook a seafood pie.
