My trip to the US - Vol 2 - The visit tio Washington DC.is memorable
My trip to Washington DC ( from Boston ) was by train. The sub urban train that took me me to Bostom was practically empty. The journey by the famous super fast and the ,Acela Expess was comfortable and the service was good, but its speed was not as expected in that It never touched its max. speed of 250 Kmph at any point.
Perhaps the most famous, and definitely one of the most popular, Museums,is the Air & Space Museum which displays artifacts and airplanes that dangle from the ceiling that date from the earliest times of aviation to space exploration. See Charles A. Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, Voyager, John Glenn's Mercury spacecraft, WWII fighter planes, the Apollo Lunar Module, and the 4-billion-year-old shard of lunar rock brought back by Apollo 17 astronauts.. The Lincoln Memorial is a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln and the nation he fought to preserve during the Civil War (1861-1865). The architecture of the Lincoln Memorial is based after a Greek Temple. It has 36 Doric columns, one for each state at the time of Lincoln's death.A sculpture by Daniel Chester French of a seated Lincoln is in the center of the memorial chamber. The Gettysburg Address is inscribed on the south wall of the monument. Above it is a mural painted by Jules Guerin depicting the angel of truth freeing a slave. Guerin also painted the unity of North and South mural on the north wall. Etched into the north wall below the mural is Lincoln's second inaugural speech.
The George Washington Monument was originally erected to honor the greatness of the city of Washington. The Washington Monument rises 555 feet above the National Mall, following the design of architect Robert Mills, a prominent American designer of the 1840s. Construction of the monument began in 1848, but was not completed until 1884, almost 30 years after the Mr. Mills' death. This hiatus in construction was due to lack of funds and the problem of the American Civil War. A difference in shading of the marble that is visible approximately 153 feet up clearly demarcates the initial construction from its later building endeavors, resuming in 1876. Fifty flags surround the base of the Washington Monument, one to symbolize each state in the Union
More than four million people visit the Arlington cemetery annually, many coming to pay final respects at graveside services, of which nearly 100 are conducted each week, Monday through Friday.A first stop on a trip to the cemetery should include the Visitors Center, located by the cemetery entrance, where maps, guidebooks, exhibits, information services (to include grave locations), a bookstore and restrooms can be found. On Nov. 22, 1963, while on a campaign trip to Dallas, President Kennedy was shot and killed.
There are only two U.S. presidents buried at Arlington National Cemetery. The other is William Howard Taft, who died in 1930. Mrs. Kennedy had expressed a desire to mark the president's grave with an eternal flame similar to that of the French Unknown Soldier in Paris. The Washington Gas Company was contacted and a propane-fed torch was selected, as it could be safely lit during the funeral the following day. The grave area is paved with irregular stones of Cape Cod granite, which were quarried around 1817 near the site of the president's home and selected by members of his family. Clover, and later, sedum were planted in the crevices to give the appearance of stones lying naturally in a Massachusetts field. Lighted by Mrs. Kennedy during the funeral, the Eternal Flame burns from the center of a five-foot circular flat-granite stone at the head of the grave. The burner is a specially designed apparatus created by the Institute of Gas Technology of Chicago. A constantly flashing electric spark near the tip of the nozzle relights the gas should the flame be extinguished by rain, wind or accident. The fuel is natural gas and is mixed with a controlled quantity of air to achieve the color and shape of the flame.
Concrete Ships
In December 1948, nine concrete ships (McCloskey ships) were partially sunk off the coast of Kiptopeake Beach, Virginia to form a breakwater for ferry service to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. After the completion of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, the ferry was put out of business . . . however, the ships now protect the beach and provide a flourishing home coastal fish and birds.

MYSTIC CONNECTICUT USA ( Mystic Seaport ) Brasspineapple Productions
Mystic Seaport or Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea, in Mystic, Connecticut, is the largest maritime museum in the world. It is notable for its collection of sailing ships and boats, and for the re-creation of the crafts and fabric of an entire 19th-century seafaring village. It consists of more than 60 original historic buildings, most of them rare commercial structures moved to the 19-acre (0.077 km2) site and meticulously restored.[1]
Mystic is a village and census-designated place (CDP) in New London County, Connecticut, in the United States. The population was 4,205 at the 2010 census.[1] Mystic has no independent government because it is not a legally recognized municipality in the state of Connecticut. Rather, Mystic is located within the towns of Groton (west of the Mystic River, and also known as West Mystic) and Stonington (east of the Mystic River).
Historically, Mystic was a leading seaport of the area, and the story of Mystic's nautical connection is told at Mystic Seaport, the nation's largest maritime museum,[citation needed] which has preserved a number of sailing ships (most notably the whaleship Charles W. Morgan) and seaport buildings. The village is located on the Mystic River, which flows into Long Island Sound, providing access to the sea. The Mystic River Bascule Bridge crosses the river in the center of the village. According to the Mystic River Historical Society, the name Mystic is derived from the Pequot term missi-tuk, describing a large river whose waters are driven into waves by tides or wind.

1619 and the Making of America
The John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress convened a symposium that brought together respected scholars to explore the intricate encounters of Africans, Europeans and native people during this significant period in America's history. In 1619, a Dutch ship with about 20 Africans on board entered a port at the English colony of Jamestown, Virginia. This event is known as the arrival of the first recorded Africans to English North America. Their historic arrival, however, marked the beginning of a trend in colonial America, in which the people of Africa were taken from their motherland and consigned to lifelong slavery.
From 1619 to 1650, during the life span of the first arriving Africans, racial discrimination emerged and chattel slavery would be codified into law. The symposium will ask questions related to the historical importance of these events in 1619. For example, who were the Africans who arrived in Virginia in 1619, where did they come from, what world did they bring with them? What emerged from Africans' engagement with indigenous Native American populations and their spiritual and cultural life ways, and what is the enduring legacy of this encounter today?
The event also featured a display of treasures and historical items from the Library of Congress' collections related to the early Americas. The symposium was held in collaboration with the Middle Passage Project of the College of William & Mary, the Virginia Commonwealth's 2019 Commemoration and Norfolk State University.

Michael Cremo: Forbidden Archaeology | Talks at Google
Michael A. Cremo
Historian of Archeology
Abstract:
Over the past two centuries, archaeologists have found bones, footprints, and artifacts showing that people like ourselves have existed on earth for many millions of years. But many scientists have forgotten or ignored these remarkable facts. Why? Primarily because they contradict the now dominant evolutionary views about human origins and antiquity. According to these views, humans like ourselves have existed for only about 100,000 or 200,000 years, and before that there were only more primitive human ancestors. This evolutionary paradigm, to which influential groups of scientists are deeply committed, has acted as a knowledge filter. And the filtering, intentional or not, has left us with a radically incomplete set of facts for building our ideas about human origins. Recovering the complete set of facts takes us on a fascinating expedition, across five continents to various archaeological sites, some long forgotten, some the center of ongoing controversy. On the other hand, the complete set of facts is consistent with the accounts of extreme human antiquity found in the Puranas, the historical writings of ancient India.
Bio:
Michael A. Cremo is research associate in history of archeology. He is a member of the World Archaeological Congress (WAC) since 1993. His WAC3 paper Puranic Time and the Archaeological Record was published in the Routledge One World Archaeology series volume Time and Archaeology (1999), edited by Tim Murray. He is also a member of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA). In 2004 Cremo's paper The Later Discoveries of Boucher de Perthes at Moulin Quignon and Their Impact on the Moulin Quignon Jaw Controversy, presented at the XXth International Congress for History of Science, Liege, Belgium, was published in a conference proceedings volume of this congress, by the scientific publisher Brepols.
Cremo is the principal author of the book Forbidden Archeology, a comprehensive historical survey of archaeological anomalies. In a review in British Journal for History of Science, Tim Murray said the book provides the historian of archaeology with a useful compendium of case studies in the history and sociology of scientific knowledge, which can be used to foster debate within archaeology about how to describe the epistemology of one's discipline.
Cremo is particularly interested in examining the history of the archeology from the standpoint of alternative worldviews, particularly worldviews with foundations in ancient Indian thought. He has given invited lectures on his work at the Royal Institution in London, the anthropology department of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, the archeology department of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and many other scientific institutions. He has also lectured on his work at universities throughout the world.

2018 Winter Lecture Series - God knows my conscious is clear George Gordon Meade's Legacy
The leadership of Gen. George Gordon Meade, from the Battle of Gettysburg, through the conclusion of the Civil War, and beyond into the post-war years is examined. Meade, the longest tenured commanding general of the Army of the Potomac, who's army defeats Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia at the Battle of Gettysburg, is often overlooked by Generals U.S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and others after the Civil War. His shifting reputation is examined in this lecture.
