Miami's Oldest Lighthouse: The Cape Florida Light on Key Biscayne | Miami History Series
The Cape Florida Light at Bill Bagg's State Historic Park is on the National Register of Historic Places as Miami's oldest lighthouse, oldest standing structure, and the site of so much significant south Florida history! In today's video, I take a tour of the lighthouse, climbing 109 steps up 95 feet up to the light tower for spectacular views of Miami and Biscayne Bay, and explore the island, delving into the history of the Key Biscayne, starting with Ponce de Leon's visit in 1513!
This video is a virtual collaboration with my good friend Tampa Jay, who is also releasing a video today exploring Tampa Bay's oldest lighthouse! Please check out Tampa Jay's video for a DOUBLE DOSE OF FLORIDA LIGHTHOUSE HISTORY!!! Link to Tampa Jay's video:
I hope to do more collaborations like this with more of my friends!! Thank you so much, Tampa Jay, for doing this with me!!

BILL BAGGS CAPE FLORIDA STATE PARK| KEY BISCAYNE FL
In this video I take you on a short walking and biking trip around the historical Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. In conducting some research on this park I was truly amazed at some of the events that took place during the 19th century. (FYI) William Calhoun Baggs was an American journalist and editor of The Miami News (1957 to 1969). He was one of a small group of Southern newspaper editors who campaigned for civil rights for African Americans in the 1950s and 1960s. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Beach is located on the tip of Key Biscayne. It is home to an historic lighthouse, the oldest standing building in Miami-Dade County, which offers scheduled tours Thursday-Monday 10am and 1pm.
The beach offers plenty of activities such as walking and bicycle trails winding through native vegetation. Amenities include restrooms, picnic tables, food concessions and shower facilities. Fishing enthusiasts can fish from the seawall along Biscayne Bay. If you are visiting Miami I would highly recommend taking a short trip over to Key Biscayne and check out the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. I hope you enjoy the video. Inside the Cape Florida Lighthouse - Bill Baggs State Park
In this video I'm touring the inside of the Cape Florida Lighthouse at Bill Baggs State Park in gorgeous Key Biscayne. The top of the lighthouse provides a 360 degree view of the surrounding area, with such points of interest as Stiltsville and downtown Miami. I also managed to catch a glimpse of one of our state's precious manatees as it swam near the surface of the water. Thanks for watching!

Key Biscayne Lighthouse Tour (Let's go to the beach!)
We are Miami people who NEVER go to the beach, so we decided to go to Key Biscayne and check out the beach at the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. We also went on the lighthouse tour, the oldest standing structure in Greater Miami built in 1825.
Click the link below for the abandoned Miami marine stadium:
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area occupies approximately the southern third of the island of Key Biscayne, at coordinates 25°40′25″N 80°09′34″W. The park includes the Cape Florida Light, the oldest standing structure in Greater Miami.

Address: 1200 Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne, FL 33149
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is the home of a historic lighthouse built in 1825 and reconstructed in 1846, and is the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County. Visitors come to the park to sunbathe, swim and picnic on more than one mile of sandy Atlantic beachfront, currently ranked #7 on the list of Top 10 Beaches in America by Dr. Stephen Leatherman, aka 'Dr. Beach.' Biking and kayaking are popular activities. Anglers can throw in their lines from the seawall along Biscayne Bay for some of the best shoreline fishing in the region.
Guided tours of the lighthouse and lighthouse keeper's cottage are given twice daily, Thursdays through Mondays. Two restaurants, Lighthouse Café and Boater's Grill, offer authentic Cuban cuisine, or picnickers can reserve a pavilion and fire up their own grill. Bicycles, beach chairs, and umbrellas can be rented.

In Key Biscayne, Florida I've discovered the charming oceanfront Cape Florida Light lighthouse keepers house on the beach in Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. It was originally destroyed during the Second Seminole War and then rebuilt, and then the house and lighthouse were eventually purchased privately by millionaire James Deering, to the dismay of the government who were stunned that a federally-constructed functional monument had somehow been purchased privately by a wealthy individual.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Beach, Key Biscayne
One of the nicest beaches in Florida can be found on the southern tip of Key Bicayne in Miami, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Beach. Being a nationalpark means a small entrance, but that gives you access to a nice and less crowded beach. In the southern end of the beach you'll find the old lighthouse from 1825 and you're able to go up and get a nice view from the top. There are two restaurants by the beach, the Lighthouse Café and Boaters Grill.
