It's more than a postcard. There's something really special about these old trees. You see some of them are kind of gnarly, kind of worn-out looking, but they're still blossoming.

STORYLINE:
Tourists flocked to Washington DC on Tuesday to attend the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which marks the anniversary of 3,000 cherry trees given to the United States in 1912 by Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki.
The cherry trees have a three day blooming peak period that will run from Tuesday through to Thursday, and National Park Service experts say conditions are right for a colourful display during that time.
It has become Washington's signature tourist event, drawing 1 (m) million visitors annually.
Tourist Ellen Autio said that seeing the cherry blossom was something that all people should do at least once in their lifetime.
''This is one of the things on the list that you have to do in this country. You have to come during cherry blossom time,'' Autio said.
Another tourist described the blossom as gorgeous.
''They're everywhere and they're gorgeous. And I love seeing all the different kinds, the different colours, and they're just everywhere. And I love how it's, like, raining petals. It's so cool, Jackie Josten, a tourist from Burke, Virginia.
The trees have been nurtured for the past three months in anticipation of the few days when they burst into a sea of pale blossoms.
Officials are well aware that the whole affair depends on the lush canopies of pink and white blossoms staying in pristine condition.
Each year, thousands of visitors spill off the paths and onto the dirt that houses the trees' life-giving roots, causing damage.
Some climb the trees, or place their children on the limbs for photos.
The festival began on Saturday and runs until 15 April 2007.

Bill Gates Project
Grant Taylor
Most people know Bill gates as the richest man in America and the CEO of Microsoft and that's it. But there is much more to Bill Gates that most people don't even know. Bill Gates' net worth is currently 66 billion dollars, he has given an extreme amount of money to help society in America. Especially when it comes to education
Bill Gates had an early interest in computers in software. As young as 13, Bill started to program computers. In 1973, Bill Gates attended Harvard University, where he met Steve Ballmer who is now the current CEO of Microsoft. Then in 1975, Bill left Harvard to form Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen. His business really started to take off in 1983 when he came out with Microsoft windows, which was the the next-generation operation system. He married his wife on January 1, 1994 and together they have done an immense amount to help improve schooling. In 1994, Bill and Melinda founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation focuses mainly on enhancing healthcare and expanding educational opportunities. This foundation is based in Seattle, Washington and is primarily ran by three trustees. Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, and Warren Buffett. Thanks to the Gates and Warren Buffettt's hard work, dedication, and connections, they have been able to raise over 33.5 billion dollars as of September 30, 2011 and is the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world. Unlike most celebrities, Bill Gates uses his money for good and really wants to give back to the community and help education for kids that may really need the help to succeed. In 2007, the founders of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation were ranked second most generous philanthropists in America. One of the aspects of schooling that the foundation focuses on is making schools smaller. The founders of the foundation feel that schools need to be smaller for students to get a true education. They have put a lot of money to try to reduce the size of schools, and lower the teacher to student ratio. They are also trying to divide up large high schools so that students would get better attention and would get a better education. The foundation also has started many scholarships for students in D.C. to be able to afford school. As of 2007, they have given over 122 million dollars to send some of the poorest kids in the District of Columbia to school. Another foundation that really relates to what we have been studying the past couple of weeks is the New Schools venture fund. This foundation focuses on managing charter schools, and the foundation has already donated 30 million dollars. They are hoping by donating this money and bettering the charter schools that students in less fortunate and inoficent areas will be more prepared for college and and careers in the future. Another one of the projects that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has started is the Texas High School Project. This project was started in 2003, and is extremely focused on increasing and improving the high school graduation rates all across Texas. The focuses mainly on the schools that are in real need of the money, and has raised over 84 million dollars. They also really give to the urban schools and the schools near the Texas-Mexico border. One of the largest foundations that the Bill and Melinda Gates supports is the Gates Mellnuim Scholarships. Administrated by the United Negro College Fund, they have donated 1.5 billion dollars to highly achieving minorities. The Bill and Melinda foundation also has helped schools outside the United States. They started a Gates Cambridge Scholarships. They donated 210 million dollars to students in the United Kingdom. They are also able to fund 100 new students a year. This is only some of the many amazing projects that Bill has been able to be a part of. Even though he is the richest man in America, he still cares about people that does not have at much as him, and wants to see the do well in school. He hopes thees foundations will better schools all across America.
Bill Gates is know and will be remembered for many things that he has done in his life, but most people will never truly understand how much he truly has help education all across America. He has use his money for good, and his foundation that he started with his wife and Warren Buffet has done more then one could think of for education, and will continue to better American education for years to come.

EXPLOSIVE! Hillary, The Movie: The Politics of Personal Destruction [FULL HD MOVIE]
EXPLOSIVE DOCUMENTARY! Hillary: The Movie is a political documentary about past United States Senator and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. It was produced by the conservative non-profit organization Citizens United. The producers went to U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to get a declaration that they could show this movie. This case was titled Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and its final decision at the U.S. Supreme Court resulted in a major change in campaign finance law.
The documentary interviewed various conservative figures such as Dick Morris and Ann Coulter and reviewed various scandals in which Hillary Clinton participated, such as the White House travel office controversy, White House FBI files controversy, Whitewater controversy, and cattle futures controversy.
The factual finding of the three-judge district court was that there was no reasonable interpretation [of the movie] other than as an appeal to vote against Clinton, thus making it electioneering communication.
The Supreme Court did not change that decision, but applied the strict scrutiny test for the First Amendment of the Constitution and said corporations could not be banned from making electioneering communications.

Black Georgetown Remembered, 25th Anniversary
On Februrary 24, 2016 the University community gathered in Gaston Hall to commemorate Black Georgetown Remembered, which chronicles and celebrates the rich but little-known history of the Georgetown black community from the colonial period to the present.
Drawing on primary sources, including oral interviews with past and current residents and extensive research in church and historical society archives, the authors record the hopes, dreams, disappointments, and successes of a vibrant neighborhood as it persevered through slavery and segregation, war and peace, prosperity and depression. This event celebrated the beautiful commemorative 25th anniversary edition of Black Georgetown Remembered, which was first published in 1991, with a new introduction by Kathleen Menzie Lesko and a foreword by Maurice Jackson.
Moderator: Maurice Jackson (Georgetown University)
Panelists: Valerie Babb (University of Georgia), Kathleen Menzie Lesko (Huntington Library), Vernon H. Ricks, Jr (Mount Zion United Methodist Church), Monica Roaché (Georgetown’s Advisory Neighborhood Commission), and Neville Waters, III (Fifth Generation Georgetowner).
The video Black Georgetown Remembered, a documentary from 1989 that complements the book, which can be viewed here:
