The LONG Journey from Istanbul to Cappadocia, Turkey
Vlog #528 Istanbul to Cappadocia, Turkey // In today’s huge travel vlog, we had to take 6 means of transportation, which ended up being 8… because we got on the wrong bus going to the wrong airport! It was a super long day, but we still had time to go in an airport lounge! AND it was all worth it to get there because Cappadocia and the cave we booked to live in were both awesome! Plus we filled you in on our Ramadan experience :)

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

The majority of journalists around the world have chosen to develop their subject on controversial and sensational themes: violence, war, crime. But all these facts represent only 1% of our world and its inhabitants, forgetting the remaining 99% of which we never speak.
I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.
Currently, I have already visited nearly 170 countries and my world tour continues thanks to you who follow me.

Amazing Roman Ruins in Cappadocia || Travel Turkey
The ruins in Cappadocia!! I don't know what we were expecting, but it wasn't this. An entire ancient Christian civilization was built INTO rock, and today you can wander right up and touch really ancient frescoes. With a few exceptions (as you'll see in the video) the ruins are largely unregulated. Get yourself the Museum Pass (good for many museums in Istanbul AND Cappadocia), and you can ruin-hop all day long. It's vastly underrated, but it's so amazing! OH, and if you are in Cappadocia or you plan on going and you need to hire a private driver, aka OSMAN, I have his information! Message me if you want it.

TRAVEL HUSTLE REPEAT GEAR ►
MY FILM MAKING KIT ►
David scratches another one off of his bucket list with this epic trip
through the region of Cappadocia. Watch as we show you the top things to see and do in Cappadocia.
First stop is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Goreme Open Air Museum. This area supported a large Christian community for several centuries. By the 4th century, Saint Basel had founded various religious settlements in the area. The Göreme Open Air Museum is a testament to St. Basil’s influence – it is a place where daily worship was carried out in seclusion.
Then onto some arts and crafts. Turkey is known for its intricate hand woven rugs (Kilim), and Cappadocia is a great place to see them being made and also to purchase them if you are interested. David toured Gallery Cappadocia and spoke with the manager about why people should come see the rugs being made. Also, the selection here is amazing! Shopping for rugs in Istanbul can be a headache if you don’t speak the language, which is why many tourists instead prefer to shop for them in Cappadocia where there are less crowds.
David then heads to the town of Avanos to visit the Firca pottery workshop. There, the artists are working meticulously to freehand patterns and calligraphy. Visitors will get a demonstration on how the pottery is formed and will get the chance to browse an extensive inventory of remarkable quality.
We can then see the cluster of fairy chimneys in Cavusin Village, during which David gives us an explanation of how these unusual rock formations are formed. Basically, wind erosion leave each rocky mound with a “hat.”
The Kaymakli Underground City (UNESCO) is another great example of the wonder Cappadocia holds. During the Roman Era, Christian communities used them to hide from religious persecution. There are several underground cities in Cappadocia, many of which are interconnected with tunnels. Kaymakli is several layers deep, with long passages, narrow steps, and a complex tunnel system connecting the rooms. Definitely one of the top things to see and do in Cappadocia!
Back outside David tours the Valley of the Monks in the village of Pasabag. Pasabag valley contains some of the most striking fairy chimneys in Cappadocia. After the hike, David strolls the town of Mustafapasa.
A tour of the Saruhan was an interesting experience, especially since the building was used as an inn for traders traveling along the Silk Road. David continues his journey into the Zelve Valley, the village of Urgup to see some of Cappadocia’s most famous fairy chimneys, and up to the top of the castle of Uchisar to get fantastic panoramic views.
Finally, David shows us the number 1 thing to do in Cappadocia… take a hot air balloon ride! This is the best way to experience Cappadocia from above and appreciate the distinct rock formations unlike anywhere else on earth.
If you’re planning on heading to Cappadocia, we highly recommend Euphrates Tours. They helped us explore this fascinating region and do everything you watched in this video.

RED TOUR IN CAPPADOCIA & CANCELLED HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE! | Cappadocia Vlog
The Red Tour is a popular Day Trip in Cappadocia which leaves from the town Goreme and goes to many of the popular Valley's and areas including Uchisar Rock Castle, Goreme Open Air Museum, Love Valley, Devrent Valley and Pasabag Valley.
On my first trip to Cappadocia I did the Green Tour which is the other popular trip, the Green Tour goes further out into the Countryside whereas the Red Tour stays closer to Goreme and although it felt like the places we visited on the Red Tour were very busy and this was my only negative about the tour, the Red Tour around Cappadocia does go to a lot of the famous places where you see photos from online and on Instagram of Cappadocia!
I had planned to start this vlog up in the sky on a hot air balloon ride but unfortunately it was cancelled this day and the following morning due to the wind. Although the hot air balloons are scheduled to go up every morning in Cappadocia, the wind is the one thing that will cancel them. My tip to you to avoid the cancellation of your hot air balloon ride is to book one for your very first morning, that way if it gets cancelled you have another morning to go on one and will be higher up on the waitlist.

This is why you NEED to visit Cappadocia - Hot Air Balloon & Underground City
Wow...that is all I can say when we finally go to see Cappadocia with our own eyes...this is the crowning jewel of Turkey.
We woke up at 3 in the morning to slowly make our way towards the hot air balloons which was the perfect start to our 3 days in Goreme.
After flying high above the city and seeing the sunrise over the town for the first time we made our way towards Derinkuyu, the underground city before ending our first incredible day at the open air museum.
The next morning we had to check out of our hotel so we decided to hike to our next hotel through rainbow valley. That evening we explored the town and found the most incredible carpet store before ending one of our final nights in Turkey at a traditional Turkish dance performance.
