Why no aquarium has a great white shark
Many have tried to keep a white shark in captivity. Here's why that's so difficult.
There are several aquariums around the world, including one in Georgia, that house whale sharks, the biggest fish in the sea. But not one has a great white shark on display.
Aquariums have made dozens of attempts since the 1970s to display a captive great white shark. Most of those attempts ended with dead sharks.
By the 2000s, the only group still trying was the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which spent a decade planning its white shark program. In 2004, it acquired a shark that became the first great white to survive in captivity for more than 16 days. In fact, it was on display for more than six months before it was released back into the ocean.
In the following years, the Monterey Bay Aquarium hosted five more juvenile white sharks for temporary stays before ending the program in 2011. It was an expensive effort and had come under criticism due to injuries that some of the sharks developed in the tank.
Responding to those critics, Jon Hoech, the aquarium's director of husbandry operations, said: We believe strongly that putting people face to face with live animals like this is very significant in inspiring ocean conservation and connecting people to the ocean environment. We feel like white sharks face a significant threats out in the wild and our ability to bring awareness to that is significant in terms of encouraging people to become ocean stewards.
Check out the video above to learn why white sharks are so difficult to keep in captivity and how the Monterey Bay Aquarium designed a program that could keep them alive.

Virtual And Augmented Reality (VR AR) Event Marketing And Exhibit Production - 900lbs of Creative
(469) 283-8043 - -- In this video, you will see the virtual reality (VR) technology used for the 2018 event in Dallas Texas for the Bridge: a homeless recovery center. 900lbs of Creative also has helped event and exhibit organizers with augmented reality (AR) technology applications.
Here is more about the event:
On September 20th, 2018, Dallas-based homeless recovery center, The Bridge, held their 10-year anniversary event, IMPACT, at The Bomb Factory. The gala was hosted by donors Nasiba and Thomas Hartland-Mackie and featured a performance by four-time Grammy Award nominated artist, Jewel. In addition to the fine food and entertainment for the guests, The Bridge was looking for an inspirational way to educate the patrons on their impact on the homeless community in Dallas and the wide variety of services they provide. They sought out 900lbs’ involvement to create something unique and memorable.
Knowing that a majority of the donors attending may never have the opportunity to see the facility themselves and the work being done, 900lbs recommended creating an immersive virtual reality experience to tell the story of the facility in an attention-getting way.
Working with Sam Merten, Chief Operating Officer at The Bridge, 900lbs filmed 360-degree video footage in target areas around the facility (e.g. the kennel, services building, and the cafeteria). Additionally, 900lbs captured drone coverage from above the facility to use as an overview screen and supporting content in the experience.
The Bridge was established and is supported by some key players in Dallas’ recent history, including current Dallas Mayor, Mike Rawlings, and former Dallas Mayor, Laura Miller. Mayor Rawlings offered his time to film the introduction to the experience and narrate the voiceover throughout. 900lbs also filmed testimonials with leaders like CEO, Dr. David Woody III, and Chairman of the Board, Lynn McBee, as well as current guests of The Bridge.
This was a unique and gratifying project for 900lbs. We enjoy dedicating our skills and expertise to causes such as this. Not only was the project fulfilling for our whole team, but a great and fun one to work on.
The Bridge is a fantastic facility doing amazing things for the 1,000+ people who walk through its door every day. To learn more and support The Bridge, visit:

The Haunted House
We love scary films and ghost stories, and had our expectations set unreasonably high before playing The Haunted House by The Chamber in Prague. But we were NOT disappointed! This is an escape room NOT TO BE MISSED.
Data:
Room: The Haunted House
Company: The Chamber, Petrské náměstí 1186/1, Praha 1 – Nové město
Website:
Languages available: Czech and English – maybe Russian, too
Game time: 60 minutes
Price: CZK 1690-1990 depending on time of day and number of players
This review:
Game date: 16 July 2017
Number of players: 2 (The Chamber suggests that you can play the game up to 6 players, but that will definitely destroy the atmosphere and be far too crammed. We recommend that you are no more than 3 players in this game.)

Room Escape

Room Escape is a beautiful and unique platform adventure game: it is themed as you play inside a kids' notebook sketch. Avoid the hazards and escape the room at each level. Levels becoming more and more complicated as you escape the room.
Escape Rooms
An escape room, also known as an escape game, is a live‐action team‐based game where players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to progress and accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time.
Escape rooms became popular in North America, Europe and East Asia in the 2010s. Permanent escape rooms in fixed locations were first opened in Asia[2] and followed later in Hungary, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and South America.
The participants in an escape room normally play as a cooperative team ranging anywhere between two to ten players. Games are set in a variety of fictional locations, such as prison cells, dungeons, and space stations. The player's goals and challenges they encounter usually follow the theme of the room.
The game begins with a brief introduction to the rules of the game and how to win. This can be delivered in the form of video, audio, or a gamemaster.
After this, the clock is started and players have 45 to 60 minutes to complete the game. During this time, players explore, find clues, and solve puzzles that allow them to progress further in the game. Challenges in an escape room leans more to mental than physical, and it is not necessary to be physically fit or dextrous.
If a team gets stuck, there is a mechanism in place for the players to ask for hints. These hints can be delivered using paper, video, audio, or a gamemaster in the room.
If the players run out of time they lose the game and leave the room.
If players achieve the goal within the time limit, they win the game. Sometimes, teams with fast times are placed on a leaderboard.
Different attractions contained elements similar to modern escape rooms and could thus be seen as precursors to the idea, including haunted houses, scavenger hunts, entertainment center 5 Wits or interactive theater (such as Sleep No More, inaugurated in 2003).
The closest of these precursor concepts to modern escape games is 5 Wits, founded in 2003 and first opening in Boston in 2004. 5 Wits combines elements of theme parks, interactive theater, and the type of puzzle solving gameplay popular in escape rooms. However, even 5 Wits doesn't consider themselves an escape room.
Three years later, Real Escape Game (REG) in Japan was developed by 35-year-old Takao Kato, of the Kyoto publishing company, SCRAP Co., in 2007. It is based in Kyoto, Japan and produces a free magazine by the same name. Beyond Japan, Captivate Escape Rooms appeared in Australia and Singapore from 2011, the market growing to over 60 games by 2015. Kazuya Iwata, a friend of Kato, brought Real Escape Game to San Francisco in 2012. The following year, Seattle-based Puzzle Break founded by Nate Martin became the first American-based escape room company. Japanese games were primarily composed of logical puzzles, such as mathematical sequences or colour-coding, just like the video games that inspired them.
Parapark, a Hungarian franchise that later operated in 20 locations in Europe and Australia, was founded in 2011 in Budapest. The founder, Attila Gyurkovics, claims he had no information about the Japanese escape games and based the game on Mihály Csíkszentmihályi's flow theory and his job experience as personality trainer. As opposed to the Japanese precursors, in the games of Parapark players mainly had to find hidden keys or reach seemingly unattainable ones in order to advance.
In 2012 a Swiss physics professor created a scientific escape game for his students. The game was later offered to the public under the name of AdventureRooms and distributed as a franchise in twenty countries. The Adventure Rooms introduced scientific puzzles (e.g. hidden infrared or polarized codes) to the genre.
As of September 2017, there were over 8,000 escape room venues worldwide. These can be particularly lucrative for the operators, as the upfront investment has been as low as US$7,000, while a party of 4-8 customers pay around US$25–30 per person for one hour to play, potentially generating annual revenue upwards of several hundred thousand dollars. As the industry as grown, start up costs have increased dramatically and so have the competition. Customers now expect higher production values and often games can cost over $50,000 to create. The UK has seen the market grow by over the past 5 years by 93%, 148%, 409% and 43%
