Carnoustie Golf Links, Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland - A 45 minute drive north of St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie Golf Links has hosted The Open Championship on seven occasions, most recently in 2007. It is set to host the 147th Open Championship in 2018. Ben Hogan won here in 1953. It was his only appearance in The Open but he left a unique legacy for his play on No. 6 named thereafter as “Hogan’s Alley.” Carnoustie is considered by many to be the most challenging layout in the Open Rota due largely to its demanding finish: No. 16 – 248 yard par 3; No. 17 – 461 yard par 4; No. 18 – 499 yard par 4. Ironically it was club member and local accountant James Wright who in 1930 designed the famous finish. His improbable stamp is found in the company of James Braid‘s major redesign of 1926; Old Tom Morris’ extension to eighteen holes in 1870; and the original layout by Alan Robertson in 1850. Consistently ranked among the Top 25 courses in the world, Carnoustie Golf Links is scheduled to again host The Open in 2018.

Carnoustie Golf Links (Championship)
The Championship Course was originally laid out in 1840 by Allan Robertson with major changes being introduced later by Old Tom Morris and then James Braid. A local man, James Wright, redesigned the final holes to provide what is generally accepted as the hardest finish in golf. Carnoustie Championship Course is difficult, but fair, and always rewards good play. Open Champions include Tommy Armour, Henry Cotton, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Paul Lawrie, and Padraig Harrington. Senior Open Champion Bernhard Langer and Women's British Open Champion Yani Tseng.
