GOLD DREDGING IN NOME, ALASKA takes viewers into and around large bucket-line gold dredges with operators and locals to learn some of the ways these ship-like machines mine placer gold in and around Nome, Alaska. Produced by Farthest North Films for an interactive exhibit at the Carrie M. McLain Memorial Museum that opened November 2017.

Nome Archaeology Camp 2015
The 2015 Nome Archaeology camp brought together a diverse cohort of high school students from across Alaska to learn about history and culture of the Seward Peninsula through the science of archaeology and oral history. The program featured hands-on activities led by cultural resources specialists from NPS, Kawerak Inc, BSNC and the Carrie M. McLain Memorial Museum, as well as village elders and a trip leader from Alaska Geographic. This ongoing project teaches students the skills necessary to research and protect heritage resources, allows students to earn college credit, and the opportunity to develop meaningful social and professional connections.
Video produced by Andrew Kennedy, 11th grade student at Effie Kokrine Early College Charter School.
Nome, Alaska
Nome is a city in the Nome Census Area in the Unorganized Borough of the U.S. state of Alaska. The city is located on the southern Seward Peninsula coast on Norton Sound of the Bering Sea. According to the 2010 Census, the city population was 3,598. The 2014 population estimate was 3,788, suggesting a slight increase. Nome was incorporated on April 9, 1901, and was once the most populous city in Alaska. Nome lies within the region of the Bering Straits Native Corporation.
The city of Nome claims to be home to the world's largest gold pan, although this claim has been disputed by the Canadian city of Quesnel, British Columbia.
