Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress which dominates the skyline of Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, from its position on the Castle Rock. Archaeologists have established human occupation of the rock since at least the Iron Age (2nd century AD), although the nature of the early settlement is unclear. There has been a royal castle on the rock since at least the reign of David I in the 12th century, and the site continued at times to be a royal residence until 1633. From the 15th century the castle's residential role declined, and by the 17th century it was principally used as military barracks with a large garrison. Its importance as a part of Scotland's national heritage was recognised increasingly from the early 19th century onwards, and various restoration programmes have been carried out over the past century and a half.

Man Or Astroman? - DNI - (Live at Castle Rock, Edinburgh, UK, 1994)
MAN OR ASTROMAN time bomb
02 dni
Who would have believed that Auburn, a sleepy little college town in Alabama would be haven to a bunch of the most whacked-out, rockin, punk lovin, mutant surf aliens in the whole damn universe. Havin' crash landed there sometime in the late eighties these twisted creatures took on the form of human degenerates, surviving on a diet of raw trash and dangerous rock n roll. Over time they systematically ingested the works of the great and the garage damaged - Link Wray, Dick Dale, Duane Eddy, The Spotniks, The Ventures and countless more outlaw icons of the fifties and sixties underground.
Man or Astro-man? true pioneers in the world of experimental surf-punk and far-out rock n roll. Along with their peers, Shadowy Men On a Shadowy Planet, The Mummies, The Monomen etc, they have shunned the lyric in favour of instrumentation that often verges on the absurd. Genius' or lunatics, they have been prolific both as live performers, composers and recording artists, playing to faithful and enthusiastic audiences the world over and even supplying tunes for the odd movie (The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron anybody?).
This film, taken from the Barn End archive, features Man or Astro-man? performing in Edinburgh during 1994 - where they treated Scotland's Capital City to possibly the most bizarre and entertaining night in it's long and crazy history. Beam me up there baby!

Edinburg Castle - the most besieged place in Great Britain

Research undertaken in 2014 identified 26 sieges in its 1100-year-old history, giving it a claim to having been the most besieged place in Great Britain and one of the most attacked in the world.

SCOTLAND: STONE OF SCONE IS RETURNED AFTER 700 YEARS IN UK
English/Nat
A symbol of Scotland's ancient nationhood, the Stone of Destiny, has been returned to Scotland 700 years after England took it south as a spoil of war.
The sandstone slab was handed over by the Duke of York amid ceremonial fanfare at Edinburgh Castle on Saturday - Saint Andrew's Day, the Patron Saint of Scotland.
The Stone of Destiny, or the Stone of Scone, is the ancient coronation stone of Scotland's kings.
The Stone of Destiny emerged from Edinburgh's Palace of Holyrood House in a spectacular procession for Saturday's formal handover in Edinburgh Castle by the Duke of York.
The proud symbol of Scotland's ancient nationhood passed along the Royal Mile watched by thousands in a procession led by a Royal Marines band and mounted Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
The procession was led by limousines carrying Scotland's Commissioners of the Regalia and magnificently clad officers of state.
The stone was carried on the back of a specially-adapted open-topped army Landrover, protected from the elements by a perspex screen.
In a limousine behind was the Queen's representative Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, in navy uniform.
A following car carried Scottish Secretary Michael Forsyth, whose idea it was to return the stone to Scotland.
The stone is being returned to Scotland after it was taken south in 1296 by England's King Edward, Hammer of the Scots.
And most people who watched the historic event were pleased to see the stone back at home.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Well, it's just a part of history coming back to Scotland where it belongs. So it's exciting for us as Americans to be part of that.
SUPER CAPTION: Anne Magee, Scottish American tourist
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The Stone of destiny has nothing to do with parliament. The Stone of Destiny is to do with our heritage. As far as the history of Scotland is concerned, the Stone of Destiny goes way back further than even the kings of Scotland.
SUPER CAPTION: Tom Wells, Scotsman
SOUNDBITE: (English)
We've been waiting for 700 years for the stone to come back, and it's the symbol of our sovereignty, as a nation, and I look forward to the sovereignty coming back in reality when we have our own parliament.
SUPER CAPTION: Andrew Hume, Scotsman
Members of Scotland's ancient Wallace clan were also in favour of the stone coming home.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Q: What do you think of the return of the stone? Do you think that's a good thing?
If it's looked upon as a step in the direction of recognising us as an independent culture, yeh.
SUPER CAPTION: Charlie Alland, Wallace clansman
The Saltire flag of Scotland flew proudly over Edinburgh Castle as the ancient coronation stone of Scotland's kings was borne through the capital.
Inside Edinburgh Castle, the Duke of York officially handed the stone over to the Scottish Secretary.
UPSOUND: I now therefore, on behalf of her majesty the Queen, place the Stone of Scone in the care of you, the commissioners for the keeping of the regalia of Scotland.
The Duke of York then presented the Scottish Secretary with the warrant for the Stone of Scone.
The secretary said the stone would be taken back to Westminster Abbey in London whenever there was a coronation.
UPSOUND: The continuation of this tradition is an essential element of the return to Scotland of the stone, and as her majesty's warrant states, it is our duty to make appropriate arrangements to ensure that in all future coronations in Westminster Abbey, successors of her majesty as sovereigns of the United Kingdom shall be crowned seated upon the Stone of Destiny.
The ceremony was followed by a 21-gun salute from the castle.

My visit to Edinburgh Castle part:2 เที่ยวปราสาท เอดินบะระ สะก๊อตแลนด์
Edinburgh Castle is situated on Castle Rock in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Castle Rock formed after a volcano erupted over 340 million years ago. The first castle that existed on the rock was known as “The Castle of the Maidens”. According to legend, the castle had been a shrine to the “Nine Maidens”, one of whom was Morgan le Fay.
Castle Rock had been a military base and royal residence for centuries. However, the edifice that is known as Edinburgh Castle was built during the 12th century by David I, son of Saint Margaret of Scotland.
The tensions between the English and Scottish monarchies nearly always centred on Edinburgh Castle. He who held the castle held rule over the city of Edinburgh and, therefore, over all of Scotland. Consequently, the castle was almost constantly under siege.
The first major battle the castle witnessed was during the late 13th century when Edward I of England attempted to seize the then vacant Scottish throne. From 1296 to 1341, the castle bounced from English to Scottish hands several times during the First and Second Wars of Scottish Independence.
After the Wars of Independence, the castle was in great need of repairs. Most of the construction was overseen by David II. In his honour, David’s Tower was erected.
In 1571, English forces laid siege to the city of Edinburgh in an attempt to capture Mary, Queen of Scots. The siege, which lasted for two years, became known as the “long” or “Lang” siege. By February of 1573, all of Mary’s supporters had surrendered to the English. During the Lang Siege, David’s Tower was destroyed.
The castle, again, witnessed strife when, in 1650, Oliver Cromwell executed Charles I and led an invasion of Scotland. In August of that year, Edinburgh Castle fell into English hands.
During the Jacobite Risings (1688-1746), the Scots attempted, several times, to recapture their castle. Unfortunately, they were never able to overpower the English. The final attempt was in 1745 when the Jacobite army was led by Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie). Although the Scots were able to capture the city, they were never able to lay siege to the castle. In November of that year, the Jacobites were forced to retreat.
From the late 18th century to the early 19th, Edinburgh Castle was used to hold military prisoners from England’s many wars. The castle became a national monument in 1814 after a mass prison break proved that the castle could not hold prisoners. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the castle was slowly restored. Military ceremonies began to be held there and, in 1927, part of the castle was turned into the Scottish National War Memorial.
Edinburgh Castle is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland. The more than one million people who visit the castle each year witness military ceremonies, historical re-enactments, and can visit sites such as St. Margaret’s Chapel and the Great Hall of King James IV.

Few of the present buildings of Edinburgh Castle pre-date the Lang Siege of the 16th century, when the medieval defences were largely destroyed by artillery bombardment. The most notable exceptions are St Margaret's Chapel from the early 12th century, which is regarded as the oldest building in Edinburgh, the Royal Palace and the early-16th-century Great Hall, although the interiors have been much altered from the mid-Victorian period onwards. The Edinburgh Castle also houses the Scottish regalia, known as the Honours of Scotland and is the site of the Scottish National War Memorial and the National War Museum of Scotland. The British Army is still responsible for some parts of the Edinburgh Castle, although its presence is now largely ceremonial and administrative. Some of the castle buildings house regimental museums which contribute to its presentation as a tourist attraction.
The Edinburgh Castle, in the care of Historic Scotland, is Scotland's most-visited paid tourist attraction, with over 1.4 million visitors in 2013. As the backdrop to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the annual Edinburgh International Festival the Edinburgh Castle has become a recognisable symbol of Edinburgh and of Scotland and indeed, it is Edinburgh's most frequently visited visitor attraction—according to the Edinburgh Visitor Survey, more than 70% of leisure visitors to Edinburgh visited the Edinburgh Castle .

Tour of Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Edinburgh Castle is probably one of the most recognisable landmarks when you think of Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Castle is a castle fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK from its position atop the volcanic Castle Rock.
From the top of, you get breathtaking views over the streets of Edinburgh, Princes Street Gardens and the Firth of Forth.
The summit of the Castle Rock is 120 metres (390 ft) above sea level, with rocky cliffs to the south, west and north, rearing up to 80 metres (260 ft) from the surrounding landscape. This means that the only readily accessible route to the castle lies to the east, where the ridge slopes more gently.

Edinburgh Castle from the Grassmarket, Edinburgh Scotland
Edinburgh Castle from the Grassmarket.
The Grassmarket is a historic market place and an event space in the Old Town of Edinburgh, Scotland. In relation to the rest of the city, it lies in a hollow, well below surrounding ground levels.
The Grassmarket is located directly below Edinburgh Castle and forms part of one of the main east-west vehicle arteries through the city center. It adjoins the Cowgate and Candlemaker Row at the east end, the West Bow (the lower end of Victoria Street) in the north-east corner, King's Stables Road to the northwest and the West Port to the west. Leading off from the south-west corner is the Vennel, on the east side of which can still be seen some of the best surviving parts of the Flodden and Telfer town walls. The view to the north, dominated by the castle, has long been a favorite subject of painters and photographers, making it one of the iconic views of the city.

From the 15th century, the castle's residential role declined, and by the 17th century, it was principally used as military barracks with a large garrison. Its importance as a part of Scotland's national heritage was recognized increasingly from the early 19th century onwards, and various restoration programs have been carried out over the past century and a half. As one of the most important strongholds in the Kingdom of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle was involved in many historical conflicts from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century to the Jacobite rising of 1745. Research undertaken in 2014 identified 26 sieges in its 1100-year-old history, giving it a claim to having been the most besieged place in Great Britain and one of the most attacked in the world.
Few of the present buildings pre-date the Lang Siege of the 16th century when the medieval defenses were largely destroyed by artillery bombardment. The most notable exceptions are St Margaret's Chapel from the early 12th century, which is regarded as the oldest building in Edinburgh, the Royal Palace, and the early-16th-century Great Hall, although the interiors have been much altered from the mid-Victorian period onwards. The castle also houses the Scottish regalia, known as the Honours of Scotland and is the site of the Scottish National War Memorial and the National War Museum of Scotland. The British Army is still responsible for some parts of the castle, although its presence is now largely ceremonial and administrative. Some of the castle buildings house regimental museums which contribute to its presentation as a tourist attraction.
The castle, in the care of Historic Environment Scotland, is Scotland's most-visited paid tourist attraction, with over 2.1 million visitors in 2018[4] and over 70 percent of leisure visitors to Edinburgh visiting the castle.[5] As the backdrop to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the annual Edinburgh Festival, the castle has become a recognizable symbol of Edinburgh and of Scotland.
