Hiking at Cathedral State Park, Wv (Virgin Hemlock Forest)

(8-24-2015) Cathedral State Park is a small, 133 acre, park located in Preston County, West Virginia. The park is known for it's massive virgin Hemlock trees. In 1966, this park was deemed a natural landmark by the National Park Service. The nearest towns are Aurora, Wv and Redhouse, Md. Trails Hiked: Cathedral Trail, Giant Hemlock and Partridge Berry. Estimated length of hike: 2 miles The hiking was very easy. We rate this hike 1 out of 5 Billygoats.

Cathedral State Park is an ancient hemlock forest of majestic proportions, and one of the last living commemorations of the vast virgin hemlock forest which once flourished in the Appalachian highlands. Trees up to 90 feet in height and 21 feet in circumference form cloisters in the park. Throughout the woods, eastern hemlock is the dominant species.

Over 170 species of vascular flora have been catalogued; to include 9 species of fern, 3 club moss, over 30 tree species (17 broad leaf) and over 50 species of wildflowers.

Cathedral State Park consists of 133 acres, located on Route 50, in Preston County in Northeastern, West Virginia. The region is hilly to mountainous, but the park is located on rather gently sloping ground with an elevation varying from 2460 to 2620 feet.

three segments:

1. smallest church in the 48 states, silver lake, west virginia. i vaguely remember this. from my size, i would guess it be circa 1975?

2. lodge and swimmers at blackwater falls, fall colors.

3. mcmurrays on the front porch. dark clothes and fairly somber moods (except for pat, of course), so i suspected a funeral, but mom says it was everyone getting together before aunt jo returned to venezuela. (how does that narrow the year?)

On December 31st, we cross country skied to the top of Bald Knob in Davis, West Virginia. Bald Knob is at an elevation of 4,308ft, about 1000ft higher than our starting point from White Grass Touring Center. Bald Knob offers a stunning view of the valley around it that's visible for miles.

Misamis Occidental

Misamis Occidental is a province of the Philippines located in the Northern Mindanao region. Its capital is Oroquieta City. The province borders Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur to the west and is separated from Lanao del Norte by Panguil Bay to the south and from Misamis Oriental by Iligan Bay to the east. The province of Misamis was originally inhabited by Subanens who were an easy target by the sea pirates from Lanao.
The province is named after the early settlement of the Spaniards at the entrance to the Panguil Bay. The name Misamis is believed to have been derived from the Subanen word Kuyamis which is a variety of coconut, the staple food of the early settlers. During the years the name persisted as an inference of the geographical location, and upon the advent of the Spanish settlers, the word kuyamis easily gave way to the more convenient pronounceable but corrupted word Misamis.

The United States Capitol, often called the Capitol Building, is the home of the United States Congress, and the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. It is located on Capitol Hill at the eastern end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Special elevator ride at King Soopers in Colorado

The reason I call this, a special elevator ride, is because I got permission by a nice worker to start my video on the 2nd floor. Now usually, most of the workers would say no to this, and you would have to start on the 1st floor and cannot exit the elevator on the 2nd floor, then exit off on level 1. The employee lounge is on level 2. And I also permission to look around upstairs.

This was filmed with PAelevators. These are some very nice older elevators! They are a bit bouncy, but seem to be in good shape. These ones serve the parking levels, the ball rooms, and the bridge to the convention center. Rumors are saying these will soon be modded, but we will see about that.
