The images in this video have been selected carefully and prayerfully. A few words about the selection of some images
The Cross seen at the initial part of the video is the NESTORIAN CROSS. A Sect of Christians known as Nestorians were inhabiting our island in the Anuradhapura era, confirming that Christianity was present long before the colonial (even before Portuguese) era.
The First Stanza features many important edifices of Sri Lankan Profile, of which the Anglican Cathedrals of Christ the Living Saviour (Diocese of Colombo) and of Cathedral of Christ the King (Diocese of Kurunegala) take prominence.
The Yapahuwa Lion - With special remembrance of JESUS, Biblically introduced as the LION OF JUDAH.........Till Christ Himself Returns (Second Coming - Parousia/ Adventus) And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. Rev. 5:5
The Sigiriya Rock - The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. - Psa 18:2
The Kandyan Crown (of HM Rajasinghe II) - 'His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.' - Rev. 19:12
The Nationalised Murals of David Paynter (First two seen at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Colombo whilst the last seen at the Chapel of Transfiguration, S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia.
1) Wedding at Cana. A house where a wedding feast is attended by Jesus and his mother. He turns that water into wine, and the three women are then shown serving it to the bride and groom (A mixed race)
2) Depiction of three women - of the different races in Sri Lanka (Sinhala, Sri Lankan Tamil and Indian Tamil) - drawing water from a well. Mural created to celebrate the ordination of the first 3 women priests in the Church of Ceylon in September 2006.
3) Transfigured Christ. We turn to the Christ. He demands the last word. But here He speaks with His hands. They are in a most unnatural gesture. The two palms face different directions, suggesting deliberate positioning. Both hands have moved away from His body, the left towards Moses, and the right towards Elijah. The palm of the left hand cannot be seen. It is turned inwards in a sign of cautioning Moses. It seems to be saying go-slow, pause, stay, stop. The palm of the right hand is turned the other way. It is opened but not fully, in a gesture of offering encouragement. It seems to be saying proceed but carefully. It says it caringly, implying that the direction is not easy. It also seems to be saying it with dignity there is respect for those who travel the path of Elijah. (Read Rest at stcmount.sch.lk - Rt. Rev. de Chickera's 'Paynter's Transfiguration')
