St. Johns Episcopal Cathedral - Denver
The Cathedral of St. John in the Wilderness in Denver, Colorado is the seat of the bishop and the cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado and part of the Episcopal Church in the United States. Construction began in 1909, the first service held in the cathedral in 1911, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
Father John H. Kehler traveled from Virginia to the group of mining camps known as Denver City in January 1860 and delivered the first public services of the Episcopal Church in what would become Colorado Territory. He eventually established the parish of St. Johns in the Wilderness, so named because the nearest Episcopal parish was seven hundred miles away in Kansas. The first Cathedral was at 20th and Welton and held its first services in 1881. Dean H. Martyn Hart was the first dean of the Cathedral, and he worked with other Denver clergy in 1887 to create the Denver Charity Organization. the first community charity solicitation fund in the United States - later renamed The United Way. The cornerstone for the current Cathedral was laid on January 24, 1909, and the first service held within on November 5, 1911. Of the original design, the two transepts, choir and great tower have never been built. Only the nave was completed of limestone with a temporary brick chancel. The height of the ceiling in the Nave is 65 feet. It is 185 feet long and 52 feet wide. In the intervening years it has come to contain much artwork of significance, including Oberammergau carvings (many from the 1st Cathedral) and stained glass from the Edward Frampton studios of London and the Charles J. Connick studios of Boston. In 2010 the Cathedral will be celebrating a special anniversary.
Former slave remains moved to Denver cathedral
(8 Jun 2017) The remains of a former slave that Denver's Roman Catholic archdiocese hopes will become a saint are now in a cathedral near downtown Denver.
Julia Greeley's remains are at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception following a ceremony that included laying out her skeletal remains on a funeral bed inside the church and packing them inside a wooden box.
Her remains were recently exhumed from a cemetery about 10 miles away.
Greeley was born into slavery in Missouri in the mid-1800s and came to Colorado around 1880. She worked as the housekeeper for the first territorial governor of Colorado, William Gilpin, and was known for her charity work.
Greeley is one of five African Americans under consideration for sainthood.
The first step in the process involves gathering testimony and documentation about her life. A report will be sent to the Vatican, which will decide whether to proceed.

Amanda Māra Rizzotto is pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in Music Performance at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and in Speech-Language Pathology at Universidade Veiga de Almeida since 2013. She started singing when she was 6 years old at her school’s choir. At the age of 8 she joined the UFRJ Children's Choir, where she remained as a soloist until the age of 17. During this period the choir performed at the Municipal Theater and the most important cultural spaces and venues of of Rio de Janeiro. Productions included La Bohème (Puccini), Carmen (Bizet), Carmina Burana (Carl Off), Magdalena (Villa Lobos), among other works of the greatest relevance in the symphonic repertoire. In 2010, she was a soloist at the UFRJ Choir concert commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Independence of Argentina, in Buenos Aires.
Amanda is under the instruction of the soprano Leila Guimarães since 2012. She performs regularly in the most important churches and venues in Rio de Janeiro, on solo recitals, Masses and weddings. Among recent performances was a concert with Cristiano Rizzotto in the Basilica Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora in Niterói, accompanied by the largest pipe organ in South America, and CD recordings, including a special participation as singer in Dreams Rising with the London-based British harpist Zanna Evans. Samples of their recent recordings can be heard at zannaevans.com/my-music.
Amanda is currently a Harp Performance major at UFRJ. Her first harp instructor was Elza Marins when she was eleven years old. She is currently under the orientation of the harpist Wanda Eichbauer at UFRJ. As a harpist she went on a concert tour with the Camerata Natalina (directed by the harpists Cristina Braga e Wanda Eichbauer) in December of 2014.

Having performed extensively in North America, Europe and South America, Cristiano Rizzotto is an active international recitalist who frequently premières and performs the works of contemporary composers. He has actively promoted and supported the ongoing development of new music for the organ. Composers such as Carson Cooman, Composer in Residence at Harvard University, Aivars Kalējs (Latvia), and Antoine Giovannini, Titular Organist at L’église Saint Vincent de Nay (France), have dedicated pieces to him.
Cristiano is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at The American Organ Institute at the University of Oklahoma, under Dr. John Schwandt, and is the Music Director and Organist at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Duncan, OK.
He became a published composer after his Toccata was released by Wayne Leupold Editions in March 2014.
Rizzotto was previously the organist at Rio de Janeiro’s Benedictine Abbey, owner of one of the oldest organs in South America and where the Carioca monks have kept the tradition of the chants and liturgy alive since the 16th century.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Magna cum Laude, 2010), and a Master’s degree in Sacred Music from East Carolina University (2013).
Cristiano’s current goals are to continue to develop his skills as a church and concert musician in the United States; to use the knowledge obtained to cooperate with the resurrection and development of the organ culture in Brazil; to represent and bring awareness to Latvia and Brazil through his work abroad; to establish a stronger dialogue between the organ sceneries and professional organists of Brazil and the United States of America; and contribute to the American musical and liturgical scenery.
A Visit to Calvary Church
October, 2014: I had the great pleasure of playing Mighty Mo, a massive 5 manual 205 rank Moller pipe organ at Calvary Church in Charlotte, NC. With nearly 12,000 pipes, it's one of the largest organs in the United States and is an absolute pleasure to play. I recorded this hymn Sent Forth With God's Blessing, (tune: The Ash Grove) with an impromptu sound registration. Enjoy!

Denver Union Station Wynkoop Plaza, Denver, Colorado, USA - Crystal Fountains
As part of a $54 million Denver Union Station project several new exciting public spaces have been developed in downtown Denvor. One of the most popular new attractions is located in the southern portion of Wynkoop Plaza, which now features an engaging series of pop-up fountains where kids and adults -- even dogs! -- can keep cool on warm days. The linear layout, with dozens of Crystal's LED210 arching water streams, is as pleasing to watch as it is to use, and has been a huge success since opening earlier this year.
From Rockies games to exploring Tattered Cover Bookstore, there's no shortage of kid-friendly adventures awaiting in the downtown core: after you dry off, make a day of exploring one of Denver's most entertaining, historic areas.
