The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo | VLOG 05-29-2017
On Monday, May 29, 2017 - Memorial Day, we ventured to our local Wildlife Preserve. We purchased a Family Pass for the season, to enjoy this wonderful, serene atmosphere all year.
The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve is a 100-acre (40 ha) zoo and wildlife preserve (25 acres (10 ha) are accessible to the public) located on Maryland Route 806 in Thurmont, Maryland, United States.
The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo allows each guest to get as close to the animals as safety permits. To feel the silky soft fur of the chinchilla or see the muscles in a jaguar’s legs as he prowls within his naturalistic habitat are just a few of the experiences that will bring you closer to the animal world. We are home to over 300 species including amphibians, fish and invertebrates. Among them are bears to boas, leopards to lemurs, meerkats to monkeys, parrots to pythons, you’ll meet over 450 exotic animals on your zoo adventure.

Salinas Wild Things
Video by Elizeth Labega. At Wild Things A. R. Inc. we have adopted many of our animals from situations that were less than ideal for their health and well-being. We have found ways to share them with others on our tours and educational programs that we feel are fun, safe and rewarding to all - especially the animals.

Catoctin Wildlife Preserve And Zoo Park
A weekend with my wife at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve And Zoo Park.
The Salisbury Zoo, Salisbury, Maryland, United States.
The Salisbury Zoological Park is a free to enter zoo with quite a wide range of animals, both small and large. Whilst I didn't visit the No 1 (on Tripadvisor) Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art I must say on a summer afternoon, the zoo is a perfect place to stop and chill when travelling between Ocean CIty and Baltimore.

Catoctin Furnace Ironmasters House in Thurmont, Maryland
The Catoctin Furnace complex, is significant to American industrial history and industrial archeology; the industrial site and its related living quarters illustrate the growth and development of the iron industry between 1774 and 1904. Slaves labored in the village in various capacities including iron production, charcoal making, and domestic services. There are documented cases of enslaved persons leaving this site to seek freedom; this site is included in NPS's National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Gateway program. While the 1781 Iron Master's House is in ruins, it is open for public viewing year round. A new interpretive panel will explain the role the Iron Master played in the community and the importance of this structure. The Iron Master's House is owned by the State of Maryland.
