冬至西安民众祭天仪式 / Xi'an Holds Heaven Worship Ceremony
The Chinese traditional Winter Solstice Day fell on Dec 22 this year. On the morning of the very day, a heaven worship ceremony was held at Daming Palace National Heritage Park in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, reproducing Tang dynasty’s national ritual over 1,300 years ago. After a dance show performed by “palace dancers”, The Tang “emperor” and “empress” led their subjects to worship the heaven and pray for prosperity and peace. According to documentary records, the heaven worship on the solstice can date back to the period of Emperor Wudi of Han dynasty over 2,000 years ago. The ancient people prayed for fair weather and good harvest through the ritual.
2019 Lunar New Year Lantern Procession
In February 2019, Chicagoans of all ages lit up the night in a beautiful, lion-dance led lantern procession to celebrate the Year of the Pig. After a day of gallery tours, art-making, and performances at the Art Institute of Chicago, the lantern procession lined up across from the Art Institute's Modern wing, next to the Lurie Children's Garden in Millennium Park. The procession then wound its way through Millennium Park, across the BP Pedestrian Bridge, and into Maggie Daley Park for skating demonstrations, a lion dance finale, crafts, food, and fun for the whole family.
A special thank you to our Lunar New Year Partners including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Park District, Choose Chicago, and Maggie Daley Park and Skating Ribbon, and to Eric Snoza and SnoStudios for the videography/photography of this event.

Tang Paradise, Datang, Furong Yuan in Xi'an of Shannxi Province, Tang Dynasty
Tang Paradise or Datang Furong Garden is the first cultural theme park of imperial garden style in China disintering the glory of the Tang Dynasty in its golden period.
The original Furong Garden in the history stood alongside Qujiang Lake. As early as in the Qin Dynasty, a famous imperial garden was built here making full use of the natural land and waterscape of Qujiang. The garden named Yichun Yuan was exactly the precursor of the later Furong Garden.
Afterwards, in the Sui Dynasty, Emperor Wen ordered his Prime Minister, Gao Ying, to change the name of the garden. Gao Ying then renamed it Furong Garden after the lotus flowers on the lake, which were extremely beautiful in full blossom at that time. And Furong is an elegant name for the lotus in ancient China.
The public garden areas were open to all. Every year, especially in spring time, Chang’an civilians would like to come and enjoy green willow trees and singing birds, which was unprecedented not only in the history of Xi’an city, but also in the history of China. To some extent it also demonstrates the culture of Tang, being free and open minded

Celebrating Chinese New Year 2019 in Cebu
Chinese New Year 2019 was one great feast for me as a couple of grand celebrations. As Ka Bino Guerrero said, Cebu is one big Chinatown.. I started my celebration of the Year of the Earth Boar at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel where i witnessed a Kung Fu exhibition, firecrackers, Lion and Dragon dances, and Yee Sang Toss. I then partook of their buffet and capped it with some sweet and sticky desserts.
The next day, I went to Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino in Mactan to enjoy another sumptuous buffet. When I returned home, I enjoyed the goodies sent to me by my friends from Cebu Pacific and Bigseed PR,
Chinese New Year 2019 was definitely memorable for me because it was one great food trip. How about you guys, how did you celebrate the Year of Pig?

China’s Forbidden City opens to the public for rare night-time light show
Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here:
China’s Forbidden City was bathed in light as it opened to the public at night for the first time in 94 years to celebrate the Spring Lantern Festival marking the end of traditional Lunar New Year celebrations.
Some 6,000 tickets were quickly snapped up for the two-night spectacle starting February 19, 2019.
The former imperial palace in Beijing, now known as the Palace Museum, has been open to the general public only during daytime hours in the 94 years since it first started welcoming visitors.
Lights and lanterns have also been strictly controlled due to concern about fires in the wooden structure of the Unesco World Heritage site.
Special safety lighting used for the recent event was complemented by a “supermoon” appearing above the buildings just in time for the festival. Supermoons occur when the moon is full on the same day it orbits closest to Earth.
Episode 4 of Bird’s-eye China: Shaanxi, China’s ancient heart
CCTV's groundbreaking documentary series, Bird’s-eye China, is the first Chinese program to have been produced using drone technology. Each episode in the series celebrates the history, culture and natural beauty of a different area of China. Spanning 34 vastly different provinces and regions, this series is the most difficult and expensive documentary that CCTV has ever produced.
Join us in this unique journey across the sky, as CGTN looks at the best of China’s breathtaking scenery.
Shaanxi, lying in the Chinese heartland, can be roughly divided into three parts: the beautiful, fertile South, the vast Guanzhong Plain in the middle, and the Loess Plateau to the north. And across the whole province, extend the Qinling Mountains.

Beijing 4K - Walk in Old Summer Palace on Lantern Festival - China 中国北京圆明园元宵节灯会夜游行走视频
The Lantern Festival or the Spring Lantern Festival is a Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar. Usually falling in February or early March on the Gregorian calendar, it marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BCE-CE 25), it had become a festival with great significance. During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night carrying paper lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns.
In ancient times, the lanterns were fairly simple, and only the emperor and noblemen had large ornate ones. In modern times, lanterns have been embellished with many complex designs. For example, lanterns are now often made in the shape of animals. The lanterns can symbolize the people letting go of their past selves and getting new ones, which they will let go of the next year. The lanterns are almost always red to symbolize good fortune.
The festival acts as an Uposatha day on the Chinese calendar. It should not to be confused with the Mid-Autumn Festival; which is sometimes also known as the Lantern Festival in locations such as Singaporeand Malaysia. The Lantern Festival has also become popular in Western countries, especially in cities with a large Chinese community. In London, the Magical Lantern Festival is held annually.
he Old Summer Palace, known in Chinese as Yuanming Yuan , and originally called the Imperial Gardens , was a complex of palaces and gardens in present-day Haidian District, Beijing, China. It is 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) northwest of the walls of the former Imperial City section of Beijing. Constructed throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries, the Old Summer Palace was the main imperial residence of Qianlong Emperor of the Qing dynasty and his successors, and where they handled state affairs; the Forbidden City was used for formal ceremonies. Widely perceived as the pinnacle work of Chinese imperial garden and palace design, the Old Summer Palace was known for its extensive collection of gardens, its building architecture and numerous art and historical treasures. It was reputed as the Garden of Gardens in its heyday.
In 1860, during the Second Opium War, as the Anglo-French expedition force relentlessly approached Beijing, two British envoys, a journalist for The Times and a small escort of British and Indian troopers were sent to meet Prince Yi under a flag of truce to negotiate a Qing surrender. Meanwhile, the French and British troops reached the palace and conducted extensive looting and destruction. Later on, as news emerged that the negotiation delegation had been imprisoned and tortured, resulting in 20 deaths, the British High Commissioner to China, Lord Elgin, retaliated by ordering the complete destruction of the palace, which was then carried out by British troops. The palace was so large – covering more than 800 acres – that it took 4000 men 3 days of burning to destroy it. Many exquisite artworks – sculptures, porcelain, jade, silk robes, elaborate textiles, gold objects and more – were stolen and are now found in 47 museums around the world, according to UNESCO.
