Oscar Night in Phoenix Proves to be a Hit!

Hollywood was not the only place where glamour, glitz, and movie buffs gathered under one roof last night. Held at Arizona's classy top-notch resort The Biltmore, people of Phoenix had an Oscar night of their own. With a sprawling red carpet to greet the attendees as well as a group of volunteer paparazzi, Oscar Night America did an amazing job replicating one of the most exciting nights in Hollywood. Presented by Bashas' and sponsored by a group of outstanding organizations and local establishments such as Greenburg Traurig LLP and ABC 15, this event was more than just fabulous. Upon entry, 300+ guests were given the actual programs that were handed out to stars in Hollywood. Champagne, fine wines, and delicate hors' dourves kept peoples spirits up until the viewing of the awards ceremony began. Matt Jefferson, the V.P. of the Arthritis Foundation, anticipated to raise more than $100,000 of proceeds to benefit this highlighted charity. This would be made possible with tickets to this event starting at $500 a plate and a live auction, with our own KTAR contribution, as well as a silent auction, held between commercial breaks. Bree Hall, the honorary chair of the Arthritis Foundation, is a fresh-faced young woman who herself suffers from arthritis, and was honored to be apart of the event. She was sure to mention that arthritis is the #1 cause of disability in the United States and this night was to benefit a truly worthy cause. Rachel Ojala, the events director of the Arthritis Foundation, had taken every piece of the project into careful consideration. Originally held at the Ritz-Carlton, Ojala wanted to increase the amount of guests that could attend this year. She said that the hardest part is holding a successful gala and awards ceremony simultaneously, but it was quite evident that she was very in-tune with the demands of such an event. After six months of planning, Ojala was very happy with the outcome and hoped the guests were as pleased as she was. With perks such as a decadent fountain of chocolate, poker table, one of a kind hand-rolled cigars, and luxurious gift bags there was little room left for complaints. To make the night even more personal, a special thank-you from the chair and director of the Oscars was played over two huge screens, making the event that much more memorable. Watch out Hollywood, Phoenix has redefined Oscar's night and made it into our own spectacular event.

The Circle K Tempe Music Festival is Arizona's premiere multi-sensory music festival. In 2009 the event was voted Arizona's Best Annual Music Festival by the readers of both the Phoenix New Times and azcentral.com, home of The Arizona Republic. Another unique feature includes the Emerging Artists Stage which showcases up-and-coming local and regional bands.
Great music combined with Arizona's beautiful spring weather and a multitude of festival activities makes the Circle K Tempe Music Festival a highly anticipated annual event for the Tempe community and statewide. Entertainment Solutions has been the proud producer of the Circle K Tempe Music Festival since its inception in 2003.
Each year high school and college garage bands are recruited to participate in the annual SRP Garage Band Competition. The bands go through several rounds of online fan voting and judged live performances, with finalists advancing to perform at the SPR Music Shack at Circle K Tempe Music Festival. The top high school and college bands get to open for a national headliner, performing in front of thousands of fans on the festival's Main Stage. Winning bands will also receive an SRP music scholarship to donate to the music program of their choice.

Now in its seventh year, the Circle K Tempe Music Festival has grown to be the largest music festival in Arizona. This year, the event will feature national, regional and local acts including Kid Rock, Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, The Outlaws, Cowboy Mouth and Pop Evil performing on Friday, April 3 and 3 Doors Down, All American Rejects, Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman (of Rage Against the Machine), MUTEMATH, Shiny Toy Guns, Vayden, Tongue Dried Sun, Wensday, Red Letter Drive performing on Saturday, April 4.
In addition to the dozens of national acts performing over the weekend, the event boasts a number of sports, musical and kid-friendly attractions as well. These include:
• The Red Bull Wake Lab on Tempe Town Lake, the biggest and most innovative wakeboarding event ever created and executed in the state of Arizona.
• A fully-operational Circle K store on-site, with all proceeds from the store going to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation;
• The SRP Lil’ Rockers Area with hands-on interactive instruments and music-related arts and crafts;
• The SRP Music Shack Stage & Garage Band Competition where the SRP Garage Band Competition finalists will battle it out to see who will open for major 3 Doors Down and All American Rejects at the festival;

Hip hop music, also called hip-hop,[1][2] rap music,[2][3][4] or hip-hop music,[2][5] is a music genre consisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted.[2] It developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, break dancing, and graffiti writing.[6][7][8] Other elements include sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing. While often used to refer to rapping, hip hop more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture.[9][10] The term hip hop music is sometimes used synonymously with the term rap music,[2][5] though rapping is not a required component of hip hop music; the genre may also incorporate other elements of hip hop culture, including DJing and scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks.[11][12]
Hip hop as music and culture formed during the 1970s when block parties became increasingly popular in New York City, particularly among African American youth residing in the Bronx.[13] At block parties DJs played percussive breaks of popular songs using two turntables to extend the breaks.[clarification needed] Hip hop's early evolution occurred as sampling technology and drum-machines became widely available and affordable. Turntablist techniques developed along with the breaks and the Jamaican toasting vocal style was used. Rapping developed as a vocal style in which the artist speaks along with an instrumental or synthesized beat. Notable artists at this time include Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Fab Five Freddy, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, and Spoonie Gee. The Sugarhill Gang's 1979 song Rapper's Delight is widely regarded to be the first hip hop record to gain widespread popularity in the mainstream.[14] The 1980s marked the diversification of hip hop as the genre developed more complex styles.[15] Prior to the 1980s, hip hop music was largely confined within the United States. However, during the 1980s, it began its spread and became a part of the music scene in dozens of countries.
New school hip hop was the second wave of hip hop music, originating in 1983–84 with the early records of Run-D.M.C. and LL Cool J. The Golden age hip hop period was an innovative period between the mid-1980s and the early 1990s. Notable artists from this era include Public Enemy, Eric B. & Rakim, Boogie Down Productions and KRS-One, EPMD, Slick Rick, Beastie Boys, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Ultramagnetic MCs, and A Tribe Called Quest.
Gangsta rap is a subgenre of hip hop that often focuses on the violent lifestyles and impoverished conditions of inner-city youths. N.W.A, Ice-T, Ice Cube, and the Geto Boys are artists most frequently associated with the founding of gangsta rap. These artists were known for mixing the political and social commentary of political rap with the criminal elements and crime stories found in gangsta rap.[16]
In the West Coast hip hop style, G-funk dominated mainstream hip hop for several years during the 1990s. East Coast hip hop in the early to mid 1990s was dominated by the Afrocentric Native Tongues posse and hardcore rap artists such as Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, and Notorious B.I.G..
In the 1990s, hip hop began to diversify with other regional styles emerging on the national scene, such as Southern rap and Atlanta hip hop. At the same time, hip hop continued to be assimilated into other genres of popular music, an example being Neo soul. Hip hop became a best-selling music genre in the mid-1990s and the top selling music genre by 1999. The popularity of hip hop music continued through the 2000s, with hip hop influences also increasingly finding their way into mainstream pop. The United States also saw the success of styles such as crunk, a music that emphasized the beats and music more than the lyrics. Starting in 2005, sales of hip hop music in the United States began to severely wane. During the mid-2000s that alternative hip hop secured a place within the mainstream, due in part to the crossover success of artists such as OutKast and Kanye West.[17]
