Céline Dion Live in Las Vegas. The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, NV, US
Celine Dion was born 30 March 1968 in Quebec, Canada. She initially found success as a teen star singing in the French language, but later transitioned into the English language in 1990. She would eventually go on to become one of the most successful pop stars in music history.
Though much of her claim to fame is tied to her English-language studio albums, she never abandoned her roots in French music (in fact the majority of her albums are in this language). Her 1996 release “Falling Into You” won album of the year at the Grammys and the following year her hit “My Heart Will Go On” picked up an Academy Award for best original song. It went on to sweep the 1998 Grammys being accoladed with Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television. This song has become immortalized in pop music history and remains an inseparable part of the film “Titanic”. Perhaps her first real breakthrough to the American mainstream was spawned by her performance of the title track of the classic 1991 Disney film “Beauty and the Beast”. The classical thematic tone of the song established the framework for her sound that she is so known for in the United States.
Her music in the French language is by no means overshadowed by her English language releases. After all this was the language in which she first began her pursuit as a singer. In fact her early work impressed manager Rene Angelil so much that he mortgaged his house to provide the funding for her debut album “La voix du bon Dieu”. Angelil remained important to Dion in both her professional and personal life as he acted as her manager and was also her husband.
Dion seemed to get more and more popular with each release and started breaking records with her 1995 album “D’eux”. This album sold over 10 million copies making it the best-selling French album of all time and with 4.4 million copies sold in France it also became the best selling album ever in that country. She is the second best selling female artist in the US only to Mariah Carey and is the best selling Canadian artist of all time.
Though some critics argue that Dion’s sound is uni-dimensional she has proven to expand outside her zone of mechanized, larger than life pop and introduce various forms of world music and different styles of pop music. She delved into more hip-hop and urban oriented territories performing duet with the likes of R. Kelley, Stevie Wonder and Ne-Yo. Her album “Falling into You” sought to reach a broader audience and incorporated more eclectic sounds such as Spanish guitar and African drumming.
Dion has a very large list of musical influences though some of their styles may not be evident in her own music. Artists like Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Doobie Brothers make the list as well as more obvious choices such as Edith Piaf and Cher. Dion has also re-popularized songs from her musical heroes such as Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and Frank Sinatra “All the Way”. As for those who Dion has influenced the string of names is overbearing. She has inspired everyone form like-minded divas such as Beyonce, Katy Perry and Rihanna, experimental R&B singer Frank Ocean and even indie twee-pop groups like Los Campesinos.

Caesars Palace is a luxury hotel and casino in Paradise, Nevada, United States. The hotel is situated on the west side of the Las Vegas Strip between Bellagio and The Mirage. It is one of Las Vegas's largest and best known landmarks.[1][2]
Caesars Palace was established in 1966 by Jay Sarno, who sought to create an opulent facility that gave guests a sense of life during the Roman Empire. It contains many statues, columns, and iconography typical of Hollywood Roman period productions including a 20-foot (6.1 m) statue of Augustus Caesar near the entrance. Caesars Palace is now owned by Vici Properties and operated by Caesars Entertainment. As of July 2016, the hotel has 3,976 rooms and suites in six towers and a convention facility of over 300,000 square feet (28,000 m2). The hotel has a large range of restaurants. Among them are several which serve authentic Chinese cuisine to cater to wealthy East Asian gamblers. From the outset, Caesars Palace has been oriented towards attracting high rollers. The modern casino facilities include table games such as blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, Spanish 21, mini-baccarat, Pai Gow, and Pai Gow poker. The casino also features a 4,500-square-foot (420 m2) 24-hour poker room; and a large number of slot machines and video poker machines.
Wikipedia gives the hotel wonderful coverage. The hotel has operated as a host venue for live music and sports entertainment. In addition to holding boxing matches since the late 1970s, Caesars also hosted the Caesars Palace Grand Prix from 1981 to 1982. Notable entertainers who have performed at Caesars Palace include Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Bette Midler, Cher, Elton John, Liberace, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli, Julio Iglesias, Harry Belafonte, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Tony Bennett, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Matt Goss, and Deana Martin. The main performance venue is The Colosseum. The theatre seats 4,296 people and contains a 22,450-square-foot (2,086 m2) stage. The stage was a special construction for Celine Dion's show, A New Day..., in 2003. After departing in 2007, Dion returned to the Colosseum with her new show entitled Celine on March 15, 2011, which was under contract through June 9, 2018 for 65 shows per year. n 1962, cabana motel owners Jay Sarno and Stanley Mallin applied for a $10.6 million[3] loan from the Teamsters Central States Pension Fund. He began plans to build a hotel on land owned by Kirk Kerkorian.[4] Sarno would later act as designer of the hotel he planned to construct. His vision was to emulate life under the Roman Empire. The objective of the palace was to ensure an atmosphere in which everybody staying at the hotel would feel like a Caesar;[5] this is why the name Caesars Palace lacks an apostrophe, making Caesars a plural instead of possessive noun.[6] Caesars Palace was instrumental in beginning a new era of lavish casinos from the late 1960s onward. Architectural writer, Alan Hess, stated: Caesars Palace needed only a sumptuous array of Classical statuary and a host of marble-white columns to establish its theme. The visitor's imagination, in league with well-placed publicity, filled in the opulence.[8] Jefferson Graham wrote that the result was the gaudiest, weirdest, most elaborate, and most talked about resort Vegas had ever seen. [Its] emblem was a chesty female dipping grapes into the waiting mouth of a recumbent Roman, fitted out in toga, laurel wreath, and phallic dagger.
The inauguration ceremony was held on August 5, 1966. Sarno and his partner, Nate Jacobsen, spent one million dollars on the event. The cost included the largest order of Ukrainian caviar ever placed by a private organization, two tons of filet mignon, 300 pounds (140 kg) of Maryland crabmeat and 50,000 glasses of champagne.[9][10] Cocktail waitresses in Greco-Roman wigs would greet guests and say Welcome to Caesars Palace, I am your slave.[9] Among the performers at the opening were Andy Williams and Phil Richards.[3] According to author Ovid Demaris, Caesars Palace was a mob-controlled casino from the day it opened its doors. By the time it opened, the significant publicity of the new hotel had generated $42 million in advanced bookings.

Cher - Believe (Believe Concert, Las Vegas 1999)
Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian; May 20, 1946) is an American singer and actress. Recognized for having brought the sense of female autonomy and self-actualization into the entertainment industry, she is known for her distinctive contralto singing voice and for having worked in various areas of entertainment, as well as continuously reinventing both her music and image, which has led to her being nicknamed the Goddess of Pop.
Cher became prominent in 1965 as one-half of the folk rock husband--wife duo Sonny & Cher, who popularized a particular smooth sound that successfully competed with the dominant British Invasion and Motown styles of the era. From 1965, she had established herself as a solo artist with successful singles such as Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down), Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves, Half-Breed, and Dark Lady. Goldmine magazine's Phill Marder described her as the leader of an effort in the 1960s to advance feminine rebellion in the rock world [and] the prototype of the female rock star, setting the standard for appearance [and] attitude. After the duo's drug-free lifestyle had lost its popular appeal in the United States owing to the drug culture of the 1960s, she returned to stardom in the 1970s as a television personality with her shows The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and Cher, both of which attained immense popularity. She became a fashion trendsetter with her daring outfits. After Cher and Sonny divorced in 1975, Cher experimented with various musical styles, including disco and new wave, before becoming a successful live act in Las Vegas in 1980.
In the early 1980s, Cher made her Broadway debut, and then starred in the film Silkwood, which earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1983. In the ensuing years, she starred in films such as Mask, The Witches of Eastwick, and Moonstruck, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1988. She made her directorial debut in the 1996 film If These Walls Could Talk. At the same time, she established herself as a rock singer by releasing platinum albums such as Heart of Stone (1989) and top-ten singles such as I Found Someone and If I Could Turn Back Time. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Cher continued to experiment with musical styles, including R&B and dance. She reached a new commercial peak in 1998 with the song Believe, which features the pioneering use of Auto-Tune, also known as the Cher effect.[2] Her 2002--2005 Living Proof: The Farewell Tour ended up as the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist then. In 2008, she signed a $60 million per-year deal to headline the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for three years. Cher returned to film in the 2010 musical Burlesque. Cher's latest studio album Closer to the Truth was released in 2013. It became her highest-charting solo album in the US to date.
Cher has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival, among several other honors. Her other ventures have included fashion designing, managing the film production company Isis, writing books, and supporting charitable foundations. Being one of the best-selling music artists of all time, she has sold more than 100 million solo albums and over 40 million records as Sonny & Cher worldwide. She is the only artist to date to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in each of the past six decades.
One of the best early-'60s New York girl groups, combining sassiness and innocence on several of the style's greatest classics. The Chiffons had some singles under their belt when they reached number one with He's So Fine, whose classic doo-lang, doo-lang riff was appropriated by George Harrison in 1970 for his own chart-topper, My Sweet Lord (Harrison was subsequently ordered to pay substantial damages to the original publishers, though he always claimed the resemblance was unintentional). Their follow-up, Goffin-King's One Fine Day, was just as good, featuring killer piano riffs from King herself. Actually cut as a Little Eva track, the Chiffons' vocal was substituted, resulting in a Top Five hit. There were a couple other memorable hits -- I Have a Boyfriend and the Motown-influenced Sweet Talkin' Guy -- and interesting misfires like the Martha & the Vandellas-inspired The Real Thing, as well as some singles issued under an alter ego, the Four Pennies. The group recorded quite a bit of material during the '60s, much of it derivative. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi

A new redevelopment opened on October 22, 2004.

How Does a Moment Last Forever | Celine Dion in Concert | Beauty and the Beast
Here is How Does a Moment Last Forever, written for Disney's 2017 remake of Beauty and the Beast by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Tim Rice, as sung by Celine Dion.
This live performance, Dion's first live performance of the song, comes from the May 24, 2017 performance of her residency show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The video was first shared on the official Beauty and the Beast Facebook page.
Rice and Menken had previously worked together on the Broadway adaptation of the piece (due to death of original lyricist Howard Ashman). Dion had also worked on the piece, singing the end credits / single version of the title song of the original animated film, earning a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal with duet partner Peabo Bryson.
When first approached by Walt Disney Studios' president of music and soundtracks, Mitchell Leib, to perform the track, Dion was reluctant to revisit the material after the death of her husband René Angélil, saying in the Making a Moment featurette on the film's Blu-Ray, Emotionally, I was not ready for that. I did not want to. [...] It's very difficult for me to make decisions with the things I've done with him.
To help convince her, Lieb took a cut of the film out to Las Vegas to show Dion. In an interview with Billboard, Lieb said that, after he showed the film to her, We had this great philosophical conversation until 2:00 in the morning. Celine has such a tie to the original, she was working out in her head right then and there, as to if she should do it or leave well enough alone.”
The singer states on Making a Moment, I watched the movie, and it was amazing. I listened to the song, 'How Does a Moment Last Forever.' I lived with the song. I had to give an answer, and I'm very proud that I decided to go ahead.
Dion agreed to record the song, working with producer Humberto Gatica, and singing to a pre-recorded music track, featuring a 100-piece orchestra cut when the rest of the score was recorded.

Mariah Carey to launch series of shows in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace
MARIAH CAREY TO LAUNCH SERIES OF LAS VEGAS SHOWS IN MAY
Mariah Carey is heading to Sin City.
Caesars Palace announced Thursday (15 JAN. 2015) that the 44-year-old pop icon would open a series of shows May 16 at The Colosseum in Las Vegas. Carey has announced 18 performances, so far.
The show, dubbed MARIAH CAREY #1s, will feature the singer performing her 18 No. 1 singles, which include We Belong Together, ''Hero and Vision of Love. She is one of the all-time best-selling acts in music.
Carey's announcement came after a so-so year for the multiplatinum, Grammy-winning star. Her latest album, Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse, was a commercial flop and she was criticized for her vocal performance during her recent tour.
Carey, a judge on American Idol for one season and the mother of 3-year-old twins, is following in the steps of Britney Spears, Celine Dion and Shania Twain, who have performed their worldwide hits at Vegas residences.
The Caesars subsidiary that owns and manages most of its casino-hotels, including Caesars Palace where Carey will be performing, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Thursday. The company's CEO said in a statement that its lineup of entertainers would continue to perform as scheduled and customers should expect no interruption.
Tickets for Carey's show - on sale now - range from $55 to $250 (USD). She will perform nine shows in May and nine shows in June.
Carey will also release a new edition of #1's, her 1998 compilation album, this year. It will include some new music.
