Ole Smoky Moonshine, Gatlinburg, TN
When Tennessee state law changed to allow the distillation of spirits, we saw an opportunity to showcase the art of superior mountain-made moonshine. Ole Smoky is the first federally licensed distillery in the history of East Tennessee. Our whiskey is born in the fertile soil of Tennessee farms where our corn is raised and then transported to the family mill to be ground for mash. At the distillery, you can see the grains converted into the clear corn liquor that our family's been making since the Smokies were first settled.

Old Home Place- Tennessee Border, last Pickin' Porch Show in Kingsport, TN 13 June 2019
In the beginning:
In the end the 13 June 2019 performance by Tennessee Border Bluegrass will be the last Pickin' Porch Show in Kingsport, Tennessee at the ACMA Mountain Music Museum. Effective by decision of the ACMA Board Of Directors the ACMA operated Mountain Music Museum will cease to exist by the end of July 2019. The Museum owned artifacts will be integrated with the existing collections of the Birthplace Of Country Music Museum, BCM, in Bristol, Virginia and loaned artifacts are being returned to the lenders. The ACMA Museum, along with The Pickin' Porch Show, was begun in 1998 in a storefront on the lower level of the old Bristol Mall by Tim White and James Bryant of Blountville, Tennessee. I have been told the Appalachian Cultural Music Association and it's endeavors such as the Leon Kiser Memorial Scholarship Show will continue going forward. The Pickin' Porch Show may reemerge but I don't think such reemergence will be anytime soon. I personally hope that this traditional and bluegrass music showcase will continue somewhere in this region. Kingsport doesn't realize what a treasure it has lost- 'nuff said. JLW37663 (22 July 2019).
Tennessee Border Bluegrass performs Old Home Place composed by Dean Webb and Mitchell Jayne and recorded by such famous artists as J.D. Crowe and the New South, Dr. Ralph Stanley, and The Dillards.

Avery Peters (Banjo)
(From Tennessee Border official Facebook promotional description)
Tennessee Border is a high energy local bluegrass band comprised of college aged students. The band was formed by Avery Peters and friends in 2016. Tennessee Border has made quick work of accomplishments in their short time as a band. The band has played on stages in neighboring states, on television with the Crooked Road General Store, and with the Appalachian Cultural Music Association at their Pickin’ Porch stage in both Bristol and in Kingsport. The band’s latest accomplishment was being invited to join Dollywood's Bluegrass and BBQ festival for the second year in a row in 2018. The band is comprised of Avery Peters (Banjo), Braeden Christian (Guitar and Lead Vocals), Morgan Rogers (Fiddle and Vocals), Ty Wilcox (Bass), Erin Tipton (Fiddle and Vocals), and Matthew Rogers (Mandolin and Vocals). Though a local friend will be filling in for Ty, Eli Barbour will be on bass for this show! All members of the band are full time college students, hold jobs in their community, and are members of their churches’ praise bands! Their love for music drives their motivation to continue to share the Appalachian Music with those in their community!
See Tennessee Border Facebook for great bios and current activities:

Great Smoky Mountains National Park TN-NC. with relaxing music
Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a United States National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site that straddles the ridgeline of the Great Smoky Mountains, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are a division of the larger Appalachian Mountain chain. The border between Tennessee and North Carolina runs northeast to southwest through the centerline of the park. It is the most visited national park in the United States with over 11.3 million recreational visitors in 2016.
On its route from Maine to Georgia, the Appalachian Trail also passes through the center of the park. The park was chartered by the United States Congress in 1934 and officially dedicated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940.
The park encompasses 522,419 acres (816.28 sq mi; 211,415.47 ha; 2,114.15 km2),[1] making it one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States. The main park entrances are located along U.S. Highway 441 (Newfound Gap Road) at the towns of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Cherokee, North Carolina. It was the first national park whose land and other costs were paid for in part with federal funds; previous parks were funded wholly with state money or private funds.
Exemption in 'Tennessee Whiskey' Law Raises Legal Flags
Drink up...if you're drinking Prichard's whiskey. Because, well, it can still be called 'Tennessee Whiskey.' The distillery does not have to abide by a law that requires whiskey to be filtered through maple charcoal before being aged in unused charred barrels made out of oak. Distiller Phil Prichard got his exemption after arguing that he shouldn't have to follow the charcoal filtering requirement, because it does not follow the technique used by his grandfather. Prichard said he feels bad that the exemption gives him 'the ability to profit as a result of a bad law.' But, he said he wishes the state would just go back to allowing distillers the same freedom to do business they had before 2013.

Rosemary Lane's Interview
Rosemary Lane was the Head Nurse at the Oak Ridge Hospital during the years of the Manhattan Project. In this interview, Lane provides a detailed account of the wartime rise of Oak Ridge, Tennessee from a small military outpost to a town of over 70,000. She discusses the social life of Manhattan Project workers, what it was like to meet General Leslie Groves, and the moment when she found out that Oak Ridge was helping to manufacture an atomic bomb.

* Great Smoky Mountains *
Music by Justin Johnson - When That Full Moon Rises
The Great Smoky Mountains (also known as The Smokies) is a mountain range in the south of the Appalachians, on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee, in the east of the United States. The highest point in the park is Clingmans Dome, which is 2025 meters high. The name comes from the mist that often hangs over the tops of the mountains.
A large part of the mountains are protected in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
