Cycling Through Central Park In New York
Join me as I hire a bike and cycle through the stunning Central Park in New York City. Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States, with 40 million visitors in 2013, and one of the most filmed locations in the world. The park itself covers an area of 843 acres making it the fifth largest park in New York City.
In this video I cycle over 6 miles through the park along with stopping off at some of famous locations along the way. This includes the John Lennon Memorial in Strawberry Fields and the incredible Alice In Wonderland statue.
As mentioned in the video, here's a link to the bike rental shop I used just a short 5 minute walk away from Central Park -

Central Park Tour (New York)
Before heading home we took a tour of the famous Central Park in the heart of Manhattan on a 1 hrs bicycle tour. It was fast and convenient, however, the tour was slightly quicker and didn't have time to see everything. Would not recommend for future tourist to take the bike tour. We only got chance to visit the Baltom, Bethesda Fountain, and Minton Tile Ceiling at Bethesda Terrace and many mores.

Central Park is a public park in the center of Manhattan in New York City, United States. The park initially opened in 1857, on 843 acres (3.41 km2) of city-owned land. In 1858, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux won a design competition to improve and expand the park with a plan they entitled the Greensward Plan. Construction began the same year and was completed in 1873.
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963, the park is currently managed by the Central Park Conservancy under contract with the city government. The Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that contributes 85% of Central Park's $37.4 million dollar annual budget, and employs 80% of the park's maintenance staff.
Under the leadership of the Central Park Conservancy, the park's reclamation began with modest, but highly significant first steps, addressing needs that could not be met within the existing structure and resources of the parks department. Interns were hired, and a small restoration staff to reconstruct and repair unique rustic features, undertaking horticultural projects, and removing graffiti under the broken windows premise. Currently, Graffiti doesn't last 24 hours in the park, according to Conservancy president Douglas Blonsky.[18]
By the early 1980s the Conservancy was engaged in design efforts and long-term restoration planning, using both its own staff and external consultants. It provided the impetus and leadership for several early restoration projects funded by the city, preparing a comprehensive plan for rebuilding the park. On completion of the planning stage in 1985, the conservancy launched its first capital campaign, assuming increasing responsibility for funding the park's restoration, and full responsibility for designing, bidding, and supervising all capital projects in the park.
The restoration was accompanied by a crucial restructuring of management, whereby the park was subdivided into zones, to each of which a supervisor was designated, responsible for maintaining restored areas. Citywide budget cuts in the early 1990s, however, resulted in attrition of the park's routine maintenance staff, and the conservancy began hiring staff to replace these workers. Management of the restored landscapes by the conservancy's zone gardeners proved so successful that core maintenance and operations staff were reorganized in 1996. The zone-based system of management was implemented throughout the park, which was divided into forty-nine zones. Consequently, every zone of the park has a specific individual accountable for its day-to-day maintenance. Zone gardeners supervise volunteers assigned to them, (who commit to a consistent work schedule) and are supported by specialized crews in areas of maintenance requiring specific expertise or equipment, or more effectively conducted on a park-wide basis.
New York City - Central Park Video Tour (Part 1)
New York Habitat features a complete presentation of the New York's massive 843-acre oasis, right in the middle of Manhattan, Central Park.
You will see that you don't have to go far to escape the craziness of city life.
Please make sure to check out the related New York Habitat blog article to discover more information about Central Park.
The second part of the video tour of Central Park is already available.
Central Park hosts over 25 million visitors per year. It's the most visited park in the United States and its appearance in many movies and television shows has made it famous around the world.
Central Park is bordered on the north by West 110th Street, on the south by West 59th Street, on the west by Eighth Avenue -- which along the Park's borders are known as Central Park North, Central Park South, and Central Park West respectively.
Fifth Avenue retains its name and forms the eastern border of the park.
Central Park contains several lakes and ponds, extensive walking trails, two ice-skating rinks (one of which is a swimming pool in July and August), the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, a wildlife sanctuary, a large area of natural woods, a reservoir with an encircling running track, 37 kids playgrounds, children's yoga, the Delacorte Theater and, of course, the famous Central Park Carousel.
Bethesda Terrace - Mid-Park at 72nd Street
When Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed the park in the late 1850's, they knew they needed a special place in the Park where people could gather. They needed to create a center for socializing, for people to see and be seen, Bethesda Terrace is that place. Hang around here long enough and you'll see it all... street performers, wedding photographs, musicians, artists and more.
Central Park Zoo and the Children's Zoo -- East Side at 64th St.
The Central Park Zoo had some bleak years back in the 70s and 80s. It had been neglected and its animals were living in small cramped cages. It has since been renovated and today it's a thriving healthy zoo with a lot to see. Come see the polar bears, the sea lion pool, monkeys and the amazing tropical rain forest. Just next door is the Children's Zoo. This is a must-see if you have kids. They've got goats, pigs, turtles, ducks and even a cow named Othello. The best part - most of the animals can be touched and fed.
Don't forget that a great way to experience New York is to rent an apartment from New York Habitat. We offer apartments all around Central Park including vacation rentals and Bed & Breakfast . It's a great alternative to the usual hotel and it'll save you money!
This studio accommodation with terrace on the Upper West Side (NY-12814) is a great option if you're looking for quick access to Central Park.
If you're looking to live across the street from the Park, you'll want to consider this amazing one bedroom vacation rental on Central Park South (NY-11135) . The building offers round-the-clock concierge staff, a full-service business center, onsite fitness center and health spa, valet parking, multilingual staff, laundry services and even cellular telephone rental. Last but not least, it is also home to the world famous Alain Ducasse restaurant.
Wolman Rink - East Side between 62nd and 63rd Streets
Wollman Rink was built in 1949 when Kate Wollman donated $600,000 for its construction. In the early 1990's, it was sold and is now run by Donald Trump.
The Pond
Our last stop in part 1 of our Central Park series is one of my favorite little corners of Central Park. It's called, quite fittingly, The Pond. It's in the southeast corner of the park and you'll find ducks, turtles, a few benches and a cute little stone bridge. It's hard to believe you're just a few feet away from 5th Avenue!
Now, that we will move on to our 2nd Video Tour of Central Park!

Bike Ride Through Central Park - Sail the Park - Times Square - New York City, New York
On our first day in New York City we took a bike tour of Central Park! This was a great way to see the park with our kids, and get a history of the area. We explored Central Park's pond, Gapstow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace and fountain, saw rowers on Central Park's lake, Belvedere Castle, Turtle Pond, and more! There is also a small amusement park and zoo in Central Park. After our bike tour and a slice of New York style pizza, we headed back in to the park to let the kids race sailboats around the pond with Sail the Park. It was a fabulous day and we walked an all time record number of steps!

NEW YORK CITY!
Our 2nd last stop of our USA trip. We stayed here for 8 days so this will be the first vlog out of a few.
This vlog was only two days and I feel like we did so much already! Day one was spent exploring and shopping around Times Square and of course, seeing the New York street performers. Day two was spent bike riding in central park, visiting the MET, seeing the Empire State building, eating possibly one of the best burgers we've ever tried, and lastly, seeing the Anastasia Broadway Musical.
Stay tuned for more of our NYC adventures x
