Eagle Ford Oil Boom 2013: Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative

The Eagle Ford boom in South Texas is pumping money and jobs into the Bluebonnet region, as local companies meet demand for everything from drilling equipment and trucking services to office supplies and Porta-Potties. Here's a brief interview with Tracy Perryman, a third-generation oilman in Luling who operates BJP Inc., a company founded by his father, which operates 116 Central Texas wells that produce a barrel or less a day. LONDON (Reuters) - Oil prices fell more than 4 percent on Thursday, hitting their lowest in more than a year on worries about oversupply and the outlook for energy demand as a U.S. interest rate rise knocked stock markets. Oil Field Pump Jacks in action and a dog in Southern Illinois, 1994

Illinois isn't generally thought of as an oil producing state. Yet, if one were to travel through parts of Southern Illinois, he or she would likely see scenes like this recorded on video. These shots of groups of oil well pump jacks were made on Aug. 17, 1994 along U.S. 50 between Olney and Lawrenceville, IL. The size of the jacks indicates relatively shallow wells, especially that little one pumping away in the final shots. It's not unusual to also see gas being flared from wells in an Illinois oil field as is the case with one here. Interesting to see how it's simply burned off on the ground with no safety protection for the public other than what appears to be an old paint or coffee can that probably should be replaced (wonder if it ever was indeed replaced after all these years). I even gotta' shot of that dawg barking away at my presence on or near his/her territory.

Oil Patch Ride

We rode with Scott & Michelle to the Tule Elk Reserve where the video starts. Then on out to McKittrick, Derby Acres, Fellows & Taft where we had dinner. The Chilled & Grilled Restaurant is a good place to eat if you're in Taft. Then we took the back roads home...even though the weather was threatening...it never did rain. GOOD RIDE.
