Chagrin Falls
Chagrin Falls in the village of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, in the United States. These falls are on the Chagrin River.
The original of the name Chagrin is unclear, but the most probable explanation is that it is a corruption of the name of French settler Sieur de Seguin, who established a trading post on the river about 1742.
The Chagrin River formed 150,000 to 50,000 years ago during the Last Ice Age, as meltwater sought a way past the front of the ice sheet covering this part of North America. The river cut through the Allegheny Plateau, exposing Berea sandstone, Bedford shale, Cleveland shale, and Chagrin shale.
