Charlotte, North Carolina: 2019's Best Views
At more than 185,000 acres, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park houses more land of old growth forests than any other place east of the Mississippi River. It is designated an International Biosphere Reserve, UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains nine individual listings on the US National Register of Historic Places. Its highest peak is Clingman’s Dome at more than six-six-hundred feet. Grotto Falls in this video is one of four major waterfalls in the park and sits on Mount Le Conte, the sixth tallest mountain in the United States.
For more than 60 years, Carowinds has thrilled ride-lovers with more than 400 acres of roller coasters, skytowers, performance attractions and water rides. The Intimidator is the red coaster at the park’s entrance and reaches 232 feet, traveling at 75 miles per hour. Afterburn, the yellow coaster in the heart of the park, is the South’s fastest inverted steel coaster at 60 miles per hour. Next door is Carolina Harbor, the 27-acre waterpark which features a wave bay, lazy river and thrill rides like Storm Surge and Blackbeard’s Revenge.
A 75,500 seat coliseum in the heart of downtown Charlotte, is home to the NFL's Carolina Panthers. Bank of America purchased 20-year naming rights for more than one-hundred million dollars in 2004; but it retains the Carolina Stadium name when hosting FIFA matches. Each of the three entrances features two hug bronze panther statues. While this stadium has never sold out, it came close September 9, 2018, when 74,812 fans watched the Carolina Panthers defeat the Dallas Cowboys 16-8.
A scenic 30 minute drive south of Charlotte brings you to Treehouse Vineyards, a cozy, local-owned vineyard producing great-tasting wines. In 2005, they planted their first Muscadine grape vines. The fact that they use this North Carolina native grape and have always been committed to growing organically led six of their wines to win prestigious wine-world awards. The property features two treehouses which can be reserved for overnight stays and the vineyard does wine tours and tastings daily. There's live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the summer months; so it’s definitely a great place to spend a weekend.
Downtown Charlotte features more than 200 restaurants, 50 bars and nightclubs and 28million square feet of office space. In fact, six Fortune 500 companies headquarter here, including Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Duke Energy, BBVA Compass, Barings and Honeywell. Downtown Charlotte is home to the stadiums which house the Carolina Panthers in Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte Hornets in Spectrum Center, and Charlotte Knights in the B&B Ballpark. Charlotte is a beautiful and exciting cultural hub definitely worth adding to your must-visit list.
