I happened to visit Jammu on an occasion of my cousin's wedding. I thought why not take a drive to Patnitop / Nathatop. Last time I visited Patnitop in 2012 during my trip to Ladakh. Chenani-Nashri Tunnel, also known as Patnitop Tunnel, is a road tunnel in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir on NH 44.
It is India's longest road tunnel with a length of 9.28 km (5.8 mi). It is the first tunnel in the country with a fully integrated tunnel control system. The tunnel reduces the distance between Jammu and Srinagar by 30 km and cut travel time by two hours. The all-weather tunnel bypasses snowfall and avalanche prone areas in winter at places like Patnitop, Kud, and Batote that obstruct NH 44 every winter and cause long queues of vehicles - sometimes for days at length.

Patnitop Tunnel also known as Chenani Tunnel is India's Longest Tunnel whose length is 9.2 KM & it is build on NH-44. This Tunnel crosses Patnitop, Kud and Batote.Construction of this Tunnel started in JULY 2011 and the completion of this project was expected in JUNE 2016 but it was delayed due to complexicity. Estimated cost of this project was around 2520 cr but after the completion of this project it was approximately 3720 cr. It is a modern tunnel filled with Safety Features. This tunnel has 2 tubes in which the main one is Traffic tunnel (13m diameter) and the other one is Safety Escape Tunnel (6m diameter). In between these 2 tubes there are 29 cross passages. There is also Transverse
Ventilation System installed inside the Tunnel in order to provide sufficient Oxygen. This type of Tunnel is India's 1st & World's 6th.
This Tunnel has sufficient lightning and also there is 124 Security Camera's installed.The Tunnel was inaugurated by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd APRIL 2017.With the completion of this Tunnel, the distance between Jammu & Srinagar & travel time has also been reduced by 30 KM & 2 hrs respectively.This Tunnel is an all weather Tunnel and it passes through 44 Avalanches and
Landslide prone spots. With the completion of this Tunnel, there has been lots of improvement in Bussiness and Travel in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Chenani Nashri tunnel project is 10.89 km long and is between Udhampur and Ramban in Jammu & Kashmir. This project forms part of the proposed widening of NH-44 (old NH-1A) from Jammu to Srinagar in the State of J&K. Chenani Nashri is India's longest highway tunnel and Asia's first longest bi-directional highway tunnel.
