Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is a short walk from the town centre of Seogwipo on Jeju Island in South Korea. These falls are popular with tourists as they can take a pleasant stroll through sub-tropical vegetation, across pretty little bridges and stepping stones to arrive at the 22 metre high falls. Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, Jeju, South Korea
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall (천지연폭포) is one of the three famous waterfalls of Jeju Island and one of Jeju's main attractions.
A pretty landscaped trail leads to Cheonjiyeon Waterfall and it is a comfortable hike. The subtropical forest surrounding the waterfall is rich in flora and fauna. Cheongjiyeon Waterfall is also the natural habitat of the Giant Mottled Eel (Anguilla marmorata) which grows to about 2 metres (6.56 feet) in length.

The magic of Cheonjiyeon Falls is easily revealed in its name, meaning pond where Heaven and the Earth meets.
Jiyeongrok (1694) - literary work collection by Lee Iktae, the Governor of Jeju in late Joseon dynasty explains the immediate effectiveness of ritual ceremony for rain at Cheonjiyeon Falls in a bad drought period.
It says Its because there lives the holy dragon., and Cheonjiyeon Falls holds magnificent dragon legends.
Cheonjiyeon Falls in 22m high and 12m wide runs down into 20m deep Cheonjiyeon pond.
The dense sub-tropical forest on both sides of the valley of the pond where the Heaven meets the Earth has been designated as Natural Heritage Area, and holds rare plants, including the Rubus hongnoensis Nakai and psilophytales.
Evergreen trees and blooming of flower trees in different season offer different look around Cheonjiyeon and water extends to the port of Seogwipo.
Cheonjiyeon Falls is also refered as the enchanted garden of Namjugeumgang for its cooler summer and warmer winter condition.

Jeongbang Waterfall must see in Jeju Island Korea
Jeju Island Korea Travel Guide. Jeju Jeongbang falls. Jeongbang Waterfall is one of the three highest waterfalls in Jeju-do and the only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean. Next to the waterfall is a sign that says Seobulgwacha, an explosion to Seobul passing by in this place. Seobul was a servant of the Chinese Qin Dynasty Emperor (BC 259 ~ 210) commanded by the Emperor to find a substance that will rotate eternally. On a tall cliff near the sea stood an old pine tree, leaning like it was ready to fall into the ocean. About 300 meters to the east is another waterfall, Sojeongbang Waterfall. Jeongbang Waterfall (정방폭포) is one of Jeju Island's three famous waterfalls.
The waterfall is situated within walking distance from the city of Seogwipo, and the water falls from a high cliff, at a height of 23 metres. It is arguably, Asia's only waterfall which falls directly into the sea.
This easily-accessible natural beauty is not to be missed when you are in Jeju Island.

One of our hobbies is visiting beautiful waterfalls. On day 2 of our trip, we went to 3 unique waterfalls in Jeju Island, South Korea called Jeongbang waterfalls, Cheonjiyeon Falls, and Cheonjiyeon waterfalls. Jeongbang Falls is only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean. I was able to get amazing take the drone over the falls to get breathtaking shots. Next we went to the Cheonjiyeon Waterfall also called “God’s pond,” deriving its name from the legend that the seven fairies serving the King of Heaven came down to the pond on stairs of cloud and bathed in its clean waters. Cheonjeyeon Falls is comprised of three tiers, the first is more of a drip with a beautiful clear blue pond, the second is a marvelous falls that I was able to get some shot with the drone over the falls, and the last was a short yet powerful falls that was slightly hard to see because of the tree in the way.

Jeju Island South Korea travel guide.Cheonjiyeon waterfall. Water in Cheonjiyeon Falls, which means the sky connected to the land, seems to fall from the sky, giving it a fallen name. Apart from the wild Dampalsu tree, which is designated as Natural Monument no. 163, the forested area also contains a variety of rare plants such as thorn bush, Songyeopnan and Gusiljappam trees, Sanyuja trees (Chinese orange trees), and camellias which all make up a forest defined as Nature Monument no. 379. Walk along the subtropical path to Cheonjiyeon Falls for one kilometer and you will be able to hear the incredible sound of water falling. This waterfall has a height of 22m, width of 12m, and a depth of 20m. The clear and deep water of Cheonjiyeon Falls is designated as No Natural Monument. 27 and is known as the Mutae eel habitat (Natural Monument No. 258).
