Medieval America episode 13: New Jersey

New Jersey is the next state on my adventure around America. It is a small state but it has a whole lot of interesting things to do. I make two stops in this video. First I stop at one of the largest model railroad museums in the world. It is called Northlandz and it is acres insize with miles of railroad track. For me the railroad was nice but the real appeal was all the various terrain. I am a big fan of diorama making and I have made a lot of varied terrain but I have never seen anything on this scale!
Second I stop at a place called Pax Amicus. It is a medieval theatre in a castle. And it is a whole lot of fun. It made thing about how entertainment might have been in the time of Shakespeare. It was great.
Finally we get a peek at the next few upcoming videos. I spent two days at the Blacksmith of Trenton. They were nice enough to let me interview them and to get lots of video in their shop. They also did two blacksmithing tutorials for us and I got it all on video. Those tutorials are coming up.
The end footage of this video is a beautiful highway in the corn countnry of Iowa.

Hidden Gems of New Hampshire: Wentworth State Park
Lake Wentworth is a smaller, quieter sister to Lake Winnipesaukee and the beach at Wentworth State Park is a great way to access it.
The park has a nice sandy beach with a gradual slope and there are both shady & sunny areas on the beach making it a great location for a family day by the lake. The water remains pretty calm here and is a good temperature for swimming. It’s also shallow throughout much of the swimming area so kids can splash around quite easily.

New Hampshire, a U.S. state in New England, is defined by its quaint towns and large expanses of wilderness. In the north, White Mountain National Forest is known for winter sports areas and Mt. Washington, the region’s highest peak, with a cog railway to its summit. Also in the White Mountains are moose, black bears and part of the Appalachian Trail.

While driving home today i spotted a small parking are with a public trail head and decided to pul over. Being aware of what the landscape and features show me i notice an old road going into the woods and pulled over. Looking at the old stone walls i knew there had to be history out there in the woods and grabbed my backpack & camera. So much of the land in New Hampshire has history going back to the early 1700s and i just had to go out and explore this area. Following the trail which appeared to be an ancient road i crossed over a good sized pond that seemed to be fairly new compared to the early sttlers history i was looking for. So i kept following the wallas until i found this old road which lead me to two cellar holes out in the middle of nowhere. Awesome ! these are the foundations from colonial homes that once stood here in the 1700s and 1800s. Both very old with stone chimney stacks and rock lined foundations. Get out and explore your world because there is so much out there for you to find.

Best Places to Visit in New Hampshire
Welcome to New Hampshire! New Hampshire ,which shares a border with Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts as well as a small Atlantic Ocean coastline and Canada to the north, offers visitors a chance to experience the very best that Mother Nature has to offer. The vast White Mountain National forest is home to the regions tallest peak, Mount Washington along with many other features sculpted by nature of many thousands of years.
It all begs you to embrace the outdoors, from kayaking the hidden coves of the Lakes Region to trekking the upper peaks surrounding Mt Washington. Each season yields a bounty of adrenaline and activity: skiing and snowshoeing in winter; magnificent walks and drives through fall's fiery colors; and swimming in crisp mountain streams and berry-picking in summer. It was challenging to select only 10 must-see attractions and must-do experiences, but this is a great place to begin.

Mount Washington Auto Road
Recorded September 15, 2016
The Mount Washington Auto Road an 8 mile toll road that extends from New Hampshire Route 16 in Pinkham Notch to the summit of Mount Washington in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The road climbs 4,618 feet from an altitude of 1,527 feet at the bottom to 6,145 feet at the top, an average gradient of 11.6%. The road was completed and opened to the public in 1861. Due to its remarkable location, weather, and history, the Mount Washington Auto Road is unlike any other driving experience in the Eastern United States. A trip on Mount Washington Auto Road is a one-of-a-kind experience offering ever-changing weather extremes, panoramic views and the opportunity to pass through four distinct climate zones as you climb to the highest peak in the Northeast. This video is one complete roundtrip of the scenic journey.
