Romanian Urban Legends: The Unblessed Chiajna Monastery (With a real footage!)
Another Romanian Urban Legend is the the unblessed Chiajna Monastery built in the XVII-th century, during Alexander Yspilanti's reign. It was meant to be one of the greatest temples from the country, but it turned out to be one of the most feared buildings. The Chiajna Monastery was abandoned and the people suffering from murrain found refuge here, so the land and the monastery have never been blessed by any priest.
After it was left, the Monastery from the outskirts of Bucharest started to be the sanctuary of dead souls' curses and paranormal events. The locals threw its great bell into the river, but they can still hear it ringing especially on full-moon nights. As a proof, they recorded the sounds and handed them to the authorities.

The Story Of The Cursed Chiajna Monastery
This is an excerpt from the book I am writing on haunted places in Europe. This is the story of the cursed Chiajna Monastery that is located just outside of Bucharest Romania. This creepy monastery has a long and dark history of attack, murder, disappearances and disease. Ghosts are reported but the curse is evident by the history. Enjoy the video and the story of this cursed monastery.

Snagov Monastery, Romania. Vlad The Impaler's Possible Resting Place!
Is this Vlad the Impaler's final resting place?? This is Snagov Monastery, outside Bucharest, Romania. For centuries, it has been the rumoured resting place of Vlad The Impaler, or Vlad Tepes, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula and the Dracula Legend. Whether he is buried here or not, Snagov Monastery is a beautiful, peaceful place and a must-see if visiting Romania.

Praying for High-Speed Tracks at Chiajna Monastery [March, 2012]
ENGLISH: It is incredible that a railway company from XXI century and the year 2012, a time where each developed country in Europe and worldwide also build and maintain networks of high speed railway, but in a country like Romania how it is possible to lose 20-30 minutes per train for a distance of about 5 kilometers on no difficult terrain between Chiajna and Bucureștii Noi at a speed of 10-15 km/h
10-15 km/h restriction imposed on a main line - M900, a line where are running dozens of trains daily, on a line that carries the economic efficiency of the passenger and of the freight trader. It is both desolate and a huge crime -- on long term - of the Romanian railway system. They spend tens of millions of euros for modernization and increasing the speed of capacity of the movement of the rolling stock up to 200 km/h, while infrastructure is providing bottleneck points for miles, regions traveled by trains with a bicycle speed.

CREEPIEST Abandoned Places in Europe
Considering the enormous size of Europe – it takes up 6.8% of Earth’s land surface – we can only imagine how many creepy and mysterious abandoned places there are to explore. The name Europe comes from classical Greek mythology, after the Phoenician princess, Europa. Let’s put on our backpacks and go exploring!

9 - Bran Castle, Transylvania, Romania
Vampires, bats, sharp teeth and garlic are what you can expect if you head to Bran Castle in Transylvania, Romania. Many believe that the book Dracula by Bram Stoker saw Dracula residing in this castle, however, Stoker probably didn’t even know about this castle when he wrote the book. Bran Castle is a now a museum and if you’re brave enough, you can even tour through the empty halls by yourself.
8 - Carabanchel Prison, Spain
This was one of the biggest prisons in Europe until it’s closure in 1998. It once held 2,000 male prisoners and 500 female prisoners and since it’s abandonment, became a haven for graffiti artists, thieves, and was inhabited by marginal communities. There was speculation that the entire prison would become 650 apartments, but that never materialized, and the prison was torn down in 2008.
7 - Hartwood Mental Hospital, Hartwood, Scotland
It’s no wonder that any building that houses mentally ill patients will have a lot of stigmas attached to it. This one was built in 1890 and looks more like a medieval castle than a mental hospital. It operated until 1998. Part of the building was used as a TV studio until 2002, but that didn’t last long. A fire ravaged parts of the building in 2004 and it lost some roofing and parts of the western clock tower.
6 - Chiajna Monastery, Romania
This monastery has been around since the late 1700s and is in Bucharest. It’s been through a lot – including bombing, abandonment, ghosts, missing guests and the plague. This church was meant to be one of the most important places of worship, but the plague prevented that from happening. The building is in a poor state and is bordered up, but that doesn’t stop people from scaling the fence to take some super creepy photographs!
5 - Balestrino, Italy
Our next stop is Genoa where you’ll come across Balestrino – it’s not 100% deserted and has roughly 600 people staying in the more modern area. The area dates back to the 11th century and it was once thriving with olive trees. It was abandoned in 1953 for hydrogeological instability. It’s the perfect backdrop for movies, as seen in in the movie Inkheart.
4 - Castle of Mesen, Belgium
This enormous castle was owned by the Bette family and designed by Giovanni Niccolo Servandoni, a famous Italian architect. This 18th-century castle was later bought by a Catholic institution in 1897 and functioned as a school and chapel. It later became a school for the orphans of soldiers that fought in WW1 but has been left empty ever since. The castle was demolished to make way for a new sanatorium in 2010.
3 - Croix-Rouge, Paris, France
This once bustling terminal station only survived for 16-years, from 1923 to 1939. The station closed when France entered into WW2. It never reopened when the war was over because it was so close to the Sèvers-Babylon station and there was just no need to have 2 busy stations.
2 - Doel, Belgium
Just across the border of Holland is an abandoned little village called Doel. There are a few people who live there, but you could count them on both hands! Around 40-years ago, the government announced plans to build a nuclear plant near the village, and people quickly left. Over time, the village has turned into a pretty spooky place, with loads of abandoned homes with broken windows and doors, with the odd rustling curtain. Tourists do like to come to peek, but I guarantee, they don’t stay very long!

The Nun True Story | Valak The Demon | Abbey of St. Carta Romania
In anticipation of the upcoming movie, The Nun, I tell the real tale of Valak the Demon, compare the character in the film to the tellings of mythology and visit the Abbey of St. Carta where the film is set. Worn by time and now peacefully crumbling in the tranquility of the Transylvania countryside in Romania, the Abbey of St. Carta (or the Carta Monastery) was formed sometime in the early 1200s and is actually the oldest gothic, fortified church within Eastern Europe.

Exploring An Abandoned Train Service Station In Bucharest
While looking for the entrance to the cursed Chiajna Monastery I found this abandoned building that I can only assume is a train repair facility or train depot. There are a set of railroad tracks inside the building itself and some of the upper levels would allow the tops of train cars to be operated on. It also looks like there are also office type rooms and administration rooms. The lower levels look like there were rooms for parts storage and the basement is covered in oil & grease making me think thats where these lubrication chemicals were stored. It was an interesting building none the less. Enjoy.
Many thanks to Manifest Mess for the intro music and CO.AG for the video music.
