The Chinese House (German: Chinesisches Haus) is a garden pavilion in Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, Germany. Frederick the Great had it built, about seven hundred metres southwest of the Sanssouci Summer Palace, to adorn his flower and vegetable garden.
Potsdam is a city on the border of Berlin, Germany. Sanssouci Palace was once the summer home of Frederick the Great, former King of Prussia. On the grounds of the complex, the Renaissance Orangery Palace overlooks Italian-style gardens with fountains. Historic Mill offers city views. English gardens surround neoclassical Charlottenhof Palace. The 19th-century Roman Baths were built in several architectural styles.
Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.

The Chinese House is a garden pavilion in Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, Germany. Frederick the Great had it built, about seven hundred metres southwest of the Sanssouci Summer Palace, to adorn his flower and vegetable garden. The garden architect was Johann Gottfried Büring, who between 1755 and 1764 designed the pavilion in the then-popular style of Chinoiserie, a mixture of ornamental rococo elements and parts of Chinese architecture.
The unusually long building time of nine years is attributed to the Seven Years' War, during which Prussia's economic and financial situation suffered significantly. Only after the end of the war in 1763 were the chambers inside the pavilion furnished. As the building served not only as a decorative piece of garden architecture but also as a setting for small social events, Frederick the Great ordered the building of a Chinese Kitchen, a few metres south-east of the Chinese House. After a conversion in 1789, only the hexagonal windows show the Oriental character of the former outbuilding. A few years later, the Dragon House was built in the form of a Chinese pagoda on the northern edge of Sanssouci Park bordering Klausberg. The building was Frederick the Great's attempt to follow the Chinese fashion of the 18th century, which began in France before spreading to England, Germany, and Russia.
In the 17th century, Dutch traders brought Chinese mother-of-pearl, lacquer, silks and porcelain to Europe. In the noble courts of the baroque era, an interest in Oriental arts grew during the rococo period into Chinoiserie, a genuine fashion for all things Chinese. In addition to the enthusiasm for Asian luxury goods which harmonized with the certain forms of rococo, travelogues and exhibitions portrayed the carefree living of the Chinese, which corresponded with the European courts' ideal of a relaxed lifestyle. Whole rooms of palaces were decorated with porcelain, small Chinese-style furniture and wall murals which presented the ideal world that was supposedly China.
Frederick the Great modeled the Chinese House on the Maison du trefle, a 1738 garden pavilion in the palace grounds of Lunéville, France. This trefoil-shaped building was created by the French architect Emmanuel Héré de Corny for the Duke of Lorraine, Stanisław Leszczyński, former King of Poland, who lived in exile in France. An exemplar of one of the etchings of the Maison published by Héré in 1753 was in the possession of Frederick the Great.
The Chinese House has the shape of a trefoil. The rounded central building contains three cabinet rooms regularly interspersed with free spaces. Rounded windows and French windows that reach almost to the ground let light into the pavilion's interior. The rolling tented copper ceiling is supported in the free space by four gilded sandstone columns, the work of the Swiss ornamental sculptor Johann Melchior Kambly, who was in the employ of Frederick the Great from 1746.
The wall of the circular central chamber, accessible by the north side, is coated with stucco marble. Monkeys with musical instruments worked in stucco over the French windows, brackets holding porcelain and wall sconces between the windows are all coated with gold leaf. Likewise coated is a richly decorated chandelier which hangs from the cupola.

My fifth trip, I visited Potsdam・Germany.
This time was not alone, with Rosen who is an official guide.
She showed me many amazing spots and told us the history of Potsdam.
Last year also visited here but I could see a different world this time.
It was a precious experience!
This traveling gave me not only a visual image but also knowledge. I could see more deeply.
I've learned from this experience that I can get more imagination If I see something with knowledge.
But interestingly at the same time, I've learned from this experience that also funny, amazing and awesome if have not perfect knowledge and mix with oneself imagination.

Chinese house was built in the 17th century.
The trend was Chinoiserie. Many beautiful things in China spread to Europe along the Silk Road.
But at the time, probably only by a limited number of people could visit China. That's why they felt a yearning, more more more.
Chinese house made by yearning, not real, but so beautiful.

This film was taken at Schloss Sansoucci (Sansoucci Caslte) in Potsdam. It's a beautiful place to visit. I do not know what the 1st building seen is, though I have tried to find out, and I will continue to search. After it, you will see The Chinese Tea House. Enjoy your visit.

Am Chinesischen Haus
Das Chinesische Haus, oder auch Chinesisches Teehaus genannt, ist ein Gartenpavillon im Park Sanssouci in Potsdam. Friedrich der Große ließ das Gebäude zur Ausschmückung seines Zier- und Nutzgartens etwa siebenhundert Meter südwestlich des Sommerschlosses Sanssouci errichten. Mit der Planung wurde der Baumeister Johann Gottfried Büring beauftragt, der nach Skizzen des Königs in den Jahren 1755 bis 1764 einen Pavillon im Zeitgeschmack der Chinoiserie schuf, eine Mischung von ornamentalen Stilelementen des Rokokos und Teilen ostasiatischer Bauformen.

Sanssouci Park is a vast park in Potsdam, just outside of Berlin. It contains several castles, most famously Sanssouci Castle (Schloss Sanssouci) - the summer residence of Frederick the Great (aka Friedrich der Grosse), the king of Prussia in the late 1700s.
My friend Judith's family was visiting and they took Scott and me on this wonderful trip out of the city on the only truly beautiful day this week (it's been raining mostly since then again). So it didn't even cross our minds to go inside any of the castles.
Instead I'd like to share with you the outside views of: Schloss Sanssouci (Sanssouci Palace) Orangerie (Orangery Palace or New Orangery) Chinesisches Haus (Chinese House) Neues Palais (New Palace) ... and many statues...
Because we came into the park from the (wrong) side of the Potsdam University we happened across the statue repair shop, which was one of the highlights for me. There are many more buildings and statues and plants to see. So I hope I can visit again another time - and I highly recommend a trip out there to Potsdam not only for this park.
