This beautiful circa Easter 1960 Kodachrome color, silent film, was shot by an amateur filmmaker. It crosses the line between a professional documentary and a home movie, in that it is impressively put together and extremely well shot. It features impressive views of Manhattan. Dating on the film is not 100% certain but the Janet Leigh film The Vikings seen advertised at 6:49 was released in 1958. The film Portrait in Black with Lana Turner seen advertised at 7:00 was released two years later in 1960, so it probably dates to that year or slightly later. NEW YORK CITY (source Wikipedia):
The City of New York, often called New York City or simply New York, is the most populous city in the United States. With an estimated 2017 population of 8,622,698 distributed over a land area of about 302.6 square miles (784 km2), New York City is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, the largest metropolitan area in the world by urban landmass and one of the world's most populous metacities, with an estimated 20.3 million people in 2017. A global power city, New York City has been described as the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world, and exerts a significant impact upon commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, and sports. The city's fast pace defines the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy.
Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of the State of New York. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. The city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world.
New York City traces its origins to a trading post founded by colonists from the Dutch Republic in 1624 on Lower Manhattan; the post was named New Amsterdam in 1626. The city and its surroundings came under English control in 1664 and were renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York. New York served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790. It has been the country's largest city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to the Americas by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is a world symbol of the United States and its ideals of liberty and peace.

Rockettes Christmas Memories: 'A Very New York Christmas'
The holidays are almost here, so we're reminiscing on cherished Christmas memories! Rockette Taylor talks about her annual tradition of heading into NYC with mom.
New York At Christmas (2016) - Tommy Tune
music: Richard Currier
words: Jim Piazza
Christmas in the air and my heart is here and there
The Yellow Rose of Texas is mistletoe to me
But come December, I suddenly remember
That Manhattan is the only place to be...
A Santa Claus on every block, Radio City
Skyscrapers wrapped with a bow
It's Christmas Eve around the clock, In New York City
Wish you were here for the show
Thought it won't be as merry without you tonight
I've still got Broadway to make Christmas bright
The neon glow of falling snow lights up the city
New York is Christmas to me
If dreams come true and here they do
Soon I'll be seeing
New York at Christmas with you
If you long for the song of a snow crested lark
It's just a subway to old Central Park
The neon glow of falling snow lights up the city
New York is Christmas to me
If dreams come true and here they do
Soon I'll be seeing
New York at Christmas with you...
Light up the City!
New York is Christmas to me.

Tommy first introduced this Christmas song,New York At Christmas (In Tribute to 9/11) in his off-Broadway review, White Tie and Tails, at The Little Shubert Theater on West 42nd Street, NYC. THE (MUSIC) TO THE INTRO WOULD COME UP AND IT BEGAN TO SNOW ON STAGE!
The President of The United States presented Tommy with The National Medal of Arts in November 2003. He added this honor to his already unprecedented nine Tony Awards in four different categories plus, eight Drama Desk Awards, two Obie Awards, two (Fred) Astaire Awards, the American Dance Award, the Drama League Award, and the George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement... and they keep coming!
Tommy has sung and danced for three U.S. Presidents, Queen Elizabeth II, The Royal Family of Monaco. In 1991, Gwen Verdon inducted him into Broadway's Theatre Hall of Fame, and Hollywood soon followed suit when three years later he was honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame appropriately placed directly in front of the Capezio Dancewear shop.
In 1965 Tommy first danced on Broadway in the chorus of Baker Street. In 1967 he was in A Joyful Noise and 1968, How Now Dow Jones. Five years and countless raves later Tommy received his first Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in Michael Bennett's, Seesaw.
Tommy's directing debut was the Off-Broadway hit, The Club, in 1976. Back on Broadway, but this time as choreographer and co-director Tune gave us The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas followed by A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine, for which he won his second Tony Award, this time for Best Choreography. He returned to Off-Broadway in 1981 to direct the controversial production of Carol Churchill's Cloud 9. The next year Tommy brought us Nine, The Musical for which he won his third Tony, his first for directing a Broadway Musical. A double Tony Award win followed for Tommy as Best Actor in a Musical and Best Choreography for the Broadway hit My One and Only co-starring Twiggy. Grand Hotel, The Musical followed with Tony wins for Best Choreography and Best Director and the following year, Tommy did what no artist had done before when he won the same two prestigious honors back to back this time for, The Will Rogers Follies.
Tommy has shied away from Hollywood, appearing in only two films early in his career. He played Ambrose Kemper in Hello, Dolly starring Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau, Michael Crawford, Louis Armstrong and directed by Gene Kelly. Tommy played Tommy in Ken Russell's The Boy Friend and starred with Twiggy.
In 1997 Tommy wrote, Footnotes, a memoir about his life in the theater. The same year he recorded Slow Dancin', a CD compilation of his favorite romantic ballads. The end of the millennium was the beginning of a dream come when he made his Las Vegas debut as the star of EFX, the ninety million dollar spectacular at the MGM Grand Hotel.
I first met Tommy through our mutual friend Michel Stuart (original cast member of A Chorus Line) in 1974. I went to their loft Giraffe House to audition new songs for Tommy. Thirty years later, Tommy chose to sing New York at Christmas and it became an Overnight Success.
I forgot to mention that Tommy is 6 foot 6 and 1/2 inches tall, a really big guy! He is a truly brilliant, sweet and a very kind man.
Sincerely,
Richard Currier

15 of the best places to spend Christmas | News Today
15 of the best places to spend Christmas. (CNN)Any old city can string up a few lights downtown and call it a holiday celebration.
From Mexico to Malta, northern lights to sunny skies, these places are doing Christmas better than the rest this year.
Malta
Visiting presepju, or nativity scenes, is an integral part of Christmas in Malta.
Every year, residents proudly open their shutters, and sometimes even their garage doors, to display their holy crib confections to the public.
On a grander scale, the Bethlehem f'Ghajnsielem is a life-size nativity experience spread over 20,0000 square meters of formerly abandoned fields.
New York
Rockefeller Center lies at the core of the New York Christmas.
Its famed ice rink has been around for 79 years; the decorated tree is an 84-year-old tradition.
Across the street, Radio City hosts the annual Christmas Spectacular, starring the Rockettes.
Bath, England
There are few cities in the world where you can celebrate the birth of Jesus and the birth of Jane Austen with the same amount of fanfare, but Bath happens to be one of them.
December 16 marks what would have been the much-loved writer's 240th birthday, and while the main Austen love-in is during the festival in September, the Jane Austen Centre -- and on-site Regency Tearoom -- is the best place to learn about the city's most famous resident.
Barcelona, Spain
Anyone who can manage to extend your Christmas holiday until Three King's Day (January 5), can catch up with Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar than Barcelona.
On the evening of January 4, they arrive at the city's port on the Santa Eulalia -- their very own ship -- in bearded and velvet-robed splendor.
Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland
While legends dating as far back as the 1820s cite the North Pole as the official home of Santa Claus and his jolly missus, the Finns would have us believe otherwise.
For them, Rovaniemi, Lapland, located just north of the Arctic Circle, is Christmas HQ.
Nuremberg, Germany
The Nuremberg Christmas market (Nurnberger Christkindlesmarkt) is a German institution, pulling in more than 2 million visitors each year.
Highlights include a giant carved wooden Ferris wheel, old-fashioned carousel and a steam train.
Honolulu, Hawaii
Santa Claus dons his beach wear for the Christmas celebrations in Hawaii.
What the Aloha State lacks in snow it more than makes up for in festive vibes of peace and goodwill.
Quebec City, Canada
Quebec brings ye olde European Christmas charm to 21st century North America.
For those who like to celebrate Christmas around a tree made from recycled sheet metal, with lights powered by the pedaling of nearby cyclists, Quebec is the destination.
A haven for environmentally friendly, outdoor enthusiasts, the city bustles with activity, offering holiday programs for all tastes.
Reykjavik, Iceland
When it comes to Christmas celebrations, Iceland has a few peculiarities.
Among these, 13 Yuletide Lads (scruffy Santas) are said to bring gifts to nice children for the 13 nights leading to Christmas.
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
Pinatas, posadas and ponche sum up the festivities in this colorful Mexican city, where Christmas is both a solemn and celebratory affair.
Leading up to December 24, visitors are likely to stumble upon Mary and Joseph strolling the streets, as locals make pilgrimages from home to home, singing to ask for posada or beg for shelter as they reenact the journey to Bethlehem.
Salzburg, Austria
Birthplace of Mozart and filming location for The Sound of Music (50 years old this year), Salzburg is chocolate-box perfect. Think snow-capped mountains, Baroque architecture and traditional Christmas markets.
Santa Claus, Indiana
Christmas is a year-round occasion in this town of fewer than 3,000 residents.
Santa Claus, Indiana, receives thousands of letters a year from children trying to reach St. Nick himself.
Strasbourg, France
Strasbourg's series of themed Christmas villages morph the city into a visual and gastronomic wonderland.
300 stalls are spread out over 12 locations, with Luxembourg being honored this year with its own dedicated village.
Queenstown, New Zealand
The traditional Christmas colors of red, green and white take on an entirely new meaning in New Zealand, where red represents the pohutukawa (New Zealand's ruby-red flowering Christmas tree), white represents the pristine sandy beaches, and green? The kiwi, of course!
Valkenburg, The Netherlands
This small town is the Dutch center for Christmas festivities.
Valkenburg's Velvet Cave is transformed into a Christmas Market and the residence of Santa, where visitors can see his room of presents and reindeer sleigh.

Rockettes of New York : Nick's Lucky Day
Featured By Nick Lido's Travel Journal. in 2013 Nick got a shot with Rockettes, the legendary Broadway Show, aboard the brand new Norwegian Breakaway Cruise Ship in New York, where Nick worked as a pianist.
ABOUT THE ROCKETTES:
The Rockettes are a precision dance company founded in 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri and since 1932 have performed out of Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, New York City. During the Christmas season, the Rockettes present five shows a day, seven days a week. Perhaps their best-known routine is an eye-high leg kick in perfect unison in a chorus line, which they include at the end of every performance. Their style of dance is a mixture of modern dance and classic ballet. Auditions to become a Rockette are always in April in New York City. Women who audition must show proficiency in several genres of dancing, mainly ballet, tap, modern, and jazz. Normally, four hundred to five hundred women will audition yearly.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is performed annually at Radio City Music Hall. There are other numerous shows performed in American and Canadian cities by a touring company of Rockettes. It is one of the most-watched live shows in the United States, with over 2 million viewers per year. The Rockettes perform annually at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (since 1957) and the America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit. The NBC Rockefeller Center Tree-Lighting Ceremony also traditionally includes a performance by the dance troupe.
Every Rockette must be between 5'6 and 5'101⁄2 tall. The illusion that all the Rockettes are the same height is created by placing the tallest women at the center of the line and then in descending height order to the ends. By kicking eye high it ensures that all the kicks will appear to the audience to be at exactly the same level with no one dancer kicking higher than any other. Dancers under and over the height requirement are ineligible to audition.

A Nine Hour Day - Drive from Michigan to New York
After moving to Michigan for college and getting a job, the trip from Metro Detroit to the Capital Region of New York is a drive I undertake quite often. I was finally able to record it after purchasing a GoPro. Driving from Detroit, through Canada, and into New York you can experience many kinds of different weather. This drive was completed in July, so luckily the only thing I had to cope with were some scattered rain showers. The drive can take anywhere from 8-10 hours depending on traffic and road conditions, though this time I was able to complete it in about 9 hours with 2 stops.

Radio City Rockettes ‘Appalled’ Over Trump Inauguration Command Performance
The Radio City Rockettes dancers are pushing back after being told they must perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration, TheWrap has learned.
The announcement by parent company Madison Square Garden Company boss James Dolan on Thursday quickly spread through social media and sparked outrage among some Rockettes and members of the Broadway community.
Phoebe Pearl, a Rockette, wrote on her private Instagram account, according to Perez Hilton:
“I usually don’t use social media to make a political stand but I feel overwhelmed with emotion. Finding out that it has been decided for us that Rockettes will be performing at the Presidential inauguration makes me feel embarrassed and disappointed. The women I work with are intelligent and are full of love and the decision of performing for a man that stands for everything we’re against is appalling. I am speaking for just myself but please know that after we found out this news, we have been performing with tears in our eyes and heavy hearts. We will not be forced! #notmypresident” An individual who worked for the Rockettes told TheWrap: “Forcing dozens of women to go and perform for this man is without a question going to be problematic.” The individual said the Rockettes usually have about 36 dancers, with 12 employed full time and the rest freelance. Those employed full-time would presumably be required to perform.
Others said that the Rockettes were being forced to perform and that their union told them that they would lose their jobs if they resisted. Amanda Duarte wrote on Facebook:
“Most of the Rockettes do not want to perform at the inauguration,” posted Duarte, whose Facebook page identifies her as the creator, producer and host of Dead Darlings. “AGVA, their union, has put in writing to the full time Rockettes that they must accept the inauguration gig or they will lose their jobs. It’s perfect, actually. What could be more fitting for this inauguration than forcing a group of women to do something with their bodies against their will?” Dolan announced on Thursday:
“The Radio City Rockettes, an original American brand, have performed at Radio City Music Hall since 1932 and, as treasured American icons, have taken part in some of the nation’s most illustrious events such as Super Bowl halftime shows, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parades and presidential inaugurations, including in 2001 and 2005. We are honored that the Rockettes have again been asked to perform in the upcoming inauguration festivities.”
It was also announced that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir would perform at the inauguration. Top entertainers from Elton John to Celine Dion have refused to participate.
