The Church of All Saints in Vilnius (Костёл Всех Святых, Вильнюс)
Rūdninkų g. 20/1 , Vilnius
The Gate of Dawn and St. Theresa's Church, Vilnius, Lithuania - 18th January, 2013
The Gate of Dawn is a city-gate of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. In the 16th century city gates often contained religious artifacts intended to guard the city from attacks and to bless travelers. The Chapel in the Gate of Dawn contains an icon of The Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of Mercy, said to have miraculous powers. For centuries the picture has been one of the symbols of the city and an object of veneration for both Roman Catholic and Orthodox inhabitants. Thousands of votive offerings adorn the walls and many pilgrims from neighboring countries come to pray in front of the beloved painting. Masses are held in Lithuanian and Polish languages.
This film features both external and internal views of the Gate of Dawn and St. Theresa's Church, to which the gate is connected. Externally both the North and South side of the gate are featured. Internally, the gold sculpted painting of the Virgin Mary is shown in detail.
At St. Theresa's Church, the focus of the film is upon the architecture and decor of the church including the ceiling, paintings, statues and sculptures.
Kernave (Lithuania) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kernave in Lithuania.
Around forty kilometres northwest of Vilnius lies the archaeological site of Kernavė, Lithuania’s ‘Troy’. During the first centuries A.C., large settlements were established in the Pajauta Valley which were protected by the Castle Mountains. Evidence of a burial culture was found such as the tomb of a horse that was discovered in 1998. Artefacts from the Iron Age, such as axes and spear heads, have been uncovered and bones from different time periods. In 1390, the Crusaders burned down the city yet Kernavė has been a World Heritage Site since 2004. Close to the Archaeological Museum and in front of the Catholic To The Holy Virgin Mary Church, is the reconstruction of an older church. The wooden Saint Nicholas Church was destroyed by fire but the groundwork of the building is depicted by numerous stones. There is also a nineteenth century white stone mausoleum and a wooden chapel. There is evidence that various mounds were created in order to support fortifications. They were called, Castle Mountains. A most powerful system was created that consisted of five imposing castle buildings formed a common defence complex to protect the settlement in the Pajauta Valley. Grand Duke Mindaugas had his fortress built across all five mounds and had it protected with palisade fences and defensive walls. This archaeological, open air museum brings Lithuania’s history to life in an interesting and remarkable way. From here was forged the economic and military power of Lithuania in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Thus the definition, Lithuania’s ‘Troy’ is well deserved. An archaeological excavation site that uncovers the very roots of the Lithuanian State!

Vilnius (Lithuanian) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Vilnius in Lithuania.
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and a melting pot of different cultures. The city’s main landmark is Castle Hill with its red Gediminas Tower that crowns the steep hill and marks the beginning of the city's history. Within the tower is the Gothic castle of Grand Duke Vytautas which was built of red brick in 1419. The Boulevard begins in Cathedral Square which was where Grand Duke Mindaugas had the city’s first cathedral built behind which was situated his palace. The basilica contains a copy of the Shroud Of Turin. The Saint Johannis Church is part of the university complex. Along with its impressive altar, this modest church is one of the country’s most beautiful examples of baroque design and possesses no less than ten altars. Beyond the five bridges of the Vilnia, the artist Republic of Užupia welcomes with its state symbol of a golden angel with trombone. This old residential neighbourhood almost fell into total disrepair but a number of artists have subsequently settled there and its charming backyards have now been improved by several small art galleries. Vilnius is surrounded by forests and meadows on the banks of the Neris, a European Capital Of Culture full of fine architecture and vibrant spirit!

LITHUANIA: PATRIARCH OF RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH AT BLESSING
Russian/Eng/Nat
The Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church and the head of the Lithuanian Catholic church held a joint blessing on Saturday in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.
Alexy II's visit commemorates the 650th anniversary of the death of three Lithuanian martyrs killed by pagans, and the 400th anniversary of the Vilnius Holy Spirit monastery the stronghold of Orthodoxy in Lithuania.
The meeting of the spiritual leaders is well-timed, taking place during a period of strained relations between the two churches.
Patriarch Alexy II greatly angered Catholics last week by proposing a bill effectively ending their practice in Russia.
The increasing tension between the Orthodox and Catholic churches was temporarily forgotten in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius on Saturday.
Alexy II, Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, and Audris Joseph Bachkis, the Catholic Bishop of Lithuania, joined together to offer their benedictions to the people.
The two churches are currently engaged in a war of words since the Russian Patriarch infuriated Catholics worldwide by proposing a bill to stop the activities of various 'foreign' religions.
He proposed that those religions unable to demonstrate a continuous presence for the last 15 years would be outlawed.
Catholicism, banned in Soviet society, would have no place in Russian society under the proposals.
But this sensitive issue did not appear to put the crowds off, and around five-thousand people gathered in the streets to watch the historic ceremony.
Lithuanian President Algirdas Brazauskas was among those receiving the blessings.
During the service the Patriarch commented on the problems and uncertainties facing Christian people in Europe.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
Christian people of Europe are today faced by serious problems, both in the general and global sense, such as a sense of disappointment and uncertainty for the future.
SUPER CAPTION: Alexy II, Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church
The head of the Lithuanian catholic church said Saturday's service was a step towards a better understanding between the two religions.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I think it's a very good example of the way we can stay together and pray together - so I think it's a good step towards a better comprehension between Catholic and Orthodox on the one level.
SUPER CAPTION: Bishop Audris Joseph Bachkis, Head of Lithuanian Catholic Church
The Patriarch is on the second day of his three-day trip to the Lithuanian capital.
In a cordial meeting with Lithuanian Algirdas Brazauskas on Friday, the Lithuanian President presented him with the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania for his contribution to friendship between the two countries.
And in a reciprocal gesture, Alexy II then bestowed upon Brazauskas the Order of Prince Daniel the Faithful of Moscow.
During an overcast day full of official duties, the Patriarch also laid a wreath in honour of those Lithuanians who died fighting for independence in 1991.
He then went on to a church for another remembrance service.
The solemn service commemorated the 650th anniversary of three Lithuanian martyrs killed by pagans.

Eric Clark's Travel Videos –Vilnius Lithuania - Cathedral of St Stanislaus and St Ladislaus
This is the Vilnius Cathedral or Basilica of St Stanislaus and St Ladislaus. It is amazing. The statues out front alone are worth seeing. One of my favorites is Moses with horns on the right side of the building. This is the main catholic cathedral in Lithuania. The room the video starts in is Chapel of Saint Casimir with his sarcophagus. It is an amazing room. The walls are all covered with art, statues and gilding. It really is a site to see.
My name is Eric Clark and I am a world traveler. I have been around the world a few times and decided to help fund my travels by sharing my videos and pictures. I have been to almost every country and would be glad to give tips and pointers. Drop me a note. = )
First Steps in Vilnius - Lithuania 4K Travel Channel
From the bus station in Vilnius, we go by taxi to our new accommodation. But we choose none of the waiting taxis. Vilmantė who we met in Riga had given us a valuable tip. Under the number +370 611 11111, we get the cheapest taxis. They cost is about a third, but the drivers usually speak only Lithuanian. But friendly passers-by at the bus station help us communicate with the head office. Moreover, we get a fancy electric car.
This time we have not booked a hotel, but an apartment. We found the Rentida Apartments in Šv. Mikalojaus str. 5 via Booking.com. Our apartment is very tastefully decorated, slightly Asiatic. In the same building is also an Azia Spa.
We have a living room with a kitchenette, a private bedroom, and a bathroom. A washing machine is particularly important to us.
Everything makes a very clean and well-kept impression.
The location is central. All highlights of the city are all within easy walking distance.
We set off to gather first impressions of Vilnius. Near our apartment is one of the oldest streets in the Old Town, the Vokieciu gatve. Here is a fountain, that resembles the Maskrosbollen fountain in Stockholm. But this one is a little smaller. The Maskrosbollen fountain was built after sketches by the Swedish politician Anita Modin and shall remind of a faded dandelion.
In front of the Vilnius City Hall, one has set up a crane. It is for the dinner in the sky. A banquet table with all guests is lifted high in the air during the meal so that one also can enjoy the view.
Across the street is one of the most important churches of Vilnius, the Kazimir Church. The Jesuits brought the Baroque architectural style to Vilnius. The church was inaugurated in 1609. Namesake is St. Casimir, the patron saint of Lithuania. The crown of the grand prince of Lithuania thrones on top of the dome.
We walk along the Didzioji g. direction north up to the Orthodox Church of St. Paraskeva. Often burnt down and rebuilt, the church reopened in 1990.
Due to heavy rain, we decide to go back to our apartment.

Hier findet ein dinner in the sky statt.
