The Universum Bremen is a science museum in Bremen, Germany. Visitors are encouraged to interact with most of the approximately 250 exhibits. It receives on average 450,000 visitors annually. The Universum Bremen opened in September 2000 near to the University of Bremen, Germany.
Covering over 4,000 m² the exhibition contains exhibits related to one of the three topics: mankind, earth and the cosmos. The science center building, with its 40,000 stainless steel scales, resembles a mixture between a whale and mussel. It was designed by the Bremen architect Thomas Klumpp.
The company Universum Managementges. mbH runs the science center as a private enterprise. About 3.4 million people visited the Universum in the first seven years since it opened. In 2007 the Universum opened a large outdoor area, the EntdeckerPark, and a new building, the SchauBox. In contrast to the curved metallic older building, the SchauBox, developed by Haslob Kruse and Partner and Schwanzlutscher & Co., is cubic with a rust-red exterior. It is used for additional exhibitions, which change annually.
The EntdeckerPark, the 5,000 m² outdoor area developed by Planungsguppe Grün, offers a number of hands-on exhibits, landscape elements and a 27m-high tower, called the Turm der Lüfte. The concept of the exhibits and the interior design were realized by Kunstraum GfK mbH, Hamburg and Archimedia, Stuttgart.

Germany: Bremen its Ramparts and the Bürger Park
The ramparts in the City of Bremen have emerged from the 17th Century fortifications and are now a popular park on the edge of the old town of Bremen. Not only are they Bremen oldest, but also the first public park in Germany, which has been realized by a bourgeois parliament. Today the ramparts encircle almost the entire old town.
The city park (Bürger Park) and the city forest are the best known and largest contiguous park in the city of Bremen.
It extends over more than 200 hectares of green space near the main railway station and was formed in the second half of the 19th Century.
With then classic folk gardens with lawns, woods, lakes and coffee houses. With diverse attractions such as animal enclosures, boat rentals, a jogging track and mini golf and petanque courts, the parks offer visitors many opportunities for recreation.

STORYLINE
Police in Germany staged a series of dress rehearsals in crowd and hooligan control in Hamburg on Wednesday in the build up to this summer's 2006 World Cup football tournament.
About 1600 state police from four different state forces - Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen and Mecklenburg Vorpommer - took part in the exercise.
Several hundred volunteers posing as hooligans were drawn from student police.
At ten different venues across the city, police took part in a variety of exercises, including escorting teams from their hotels and dealing with fan clashes inside stadia and at public viewing points.
In one of the events held around the city, police had to escort a 'team' from their hotel onto their team bus whilst preventing overenthusiastic 'fans' from trying to gain access to the players.
A horseracing track in Horn doubled up as a World Cup stadium to enable police to practice their abilities at body checking supporters on the way into the stadium.
Police then had to try and stop rival groups of supporters from clashing inside the ground.
Hamburg police spokesman Ralf Meyer said it was important to be ready in time for any eventualities.
One area of concern for security chiefs at the World Cup will be the 'public viewing' points assembled at the major cities, another scenario that was played out today at a police barracks in Jenfeld.
Officials are expecting between seven and eight million fans to watch the games at big screens erected in city centres - an estimate that is more than twice the total attendance at the stadiums.
At all 12 cities hosting World Cup games there will be official FIFA World Cup fan festivals, where fans can eat, drink and watch the games.
Germany is expecting in excess of 1.5 million visitors this summer when it hosts the 2006 tournament.

R.I.P! The epic innerdoorless Thyssen elevators have been replaced by I.T.K.
Typical for Sweden and very unusual for railway station in other countries is the use of swing doors elevators! The railway tracks are accessed via a tunnel or a bridge - both have elevators on them. The elevators to the commuter train (Pendeltåg) platforms are still without inner doors. The others not, they already got inner doors. When Citybanan gets opened, you can expect the Pendeltåg elevators to get modernized aswell. Various trains, regional and long distance ones depart from the platforms 3-12 and 17-19. Platform 1/2 is exclusively used by Arlanda Express. In fact, 1-7 are terminus platforms. They end inside the station. The other ones allow trains to stop and continue the same direction.
UPDATE of summer 2017: New pendeltåg station Stockholm City has been opened. Platforms 13-16 are therefore not used by these trains anymore. You can expect the remaining DEVE elevators without inner doors to be modernized very soon! I got to hear that they are still working. The ticket barriers have been removed since. Wanna film them? Then be quick!

Beside the swing doors elevators to the platforms, there are also some EcoDiscs, one classic KONE, one of them being heavily modernized, a Walkie-Talkie elevator and - but only in this video - two awesome elevators without inner doors. In reality, they are getting replaced (and one of them was already gone when this video has been upp'd). Did I forget anything? Ah yes, the first class lounge EcoDisc elevator, filmed and shown for the first time on YouTube. It is located behind a locked door, visitors must ring a bell to get in.

Cologne is the largest city of Germany's most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth-most populous city in Germany. Cologne was founded and established in Ubii territory in the 1st century AD as the Roman Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium, the first word of which is the origin of its name. An alternative Latin name of the settlement is Augusta Ubiorum, after the Ubii. Cologne, the French version of the city's name, has become standard in English as well. Cologne functioned as the capital of the Roman province of Germania Inferior and as the headquarters of the Roman military in the region until occupied by the Franks in 462. Cologne is a major cultural centre for the Rhineland; it hosts more than 30 museums and hundreds of galleries. Exhibitions range from local ancient Roman archeological sites to contemporary graphics and sculpture. Tour of the elevators - eight elevators with swing doors! The elevators are from the 60's - very classic.
The institute is an arrangement of six buildings which are all connected by a corridor with glass walls. The lowest building doesn't have any elevators (it is not shown on the map). All other five buildings have elevators. However, the buildings with elevators in them are restricted area. It is possible to walk in - doors are not locked. But it isnt allowed and people ask unknown visitors about. Only visitors with a special pass are tolerated.

STORYLINE:
Japan on Monday issued a travel alert for Japanese citizens living or travelling Europe, warning them of possible attack by al-Qaida or other related groups.
Monday's alert comes in the wake of similar warnings from American and British authorities.
The US State Department alert on Sunday advised the hundreds of thousands of US citizens living or travelling in Europe to take more precautions about their personal security.
Britain's Foreign Office on Sunday also began warning British travellers to France and Germany that the threat of terrorism in those countries is high.
Germany's Interior Ministry said on Sunday it saw no need to change its assessment of risks to the country however.
Security officials say militants may be plotting attacks in Europe with assault weapons on public places, similar to the deadly 2008 shooting spree in Mumbai, India.
Without a specific threat, however, American visitors were not letting the alert disrupt their travels.
I don't really think it's necessary, said US passenger George Schnackenberg speaking from Frankfurt airport.
Another US visitor at the airport said she felt completely safe.
Security was visible at Europe's main airports and stations in recent days following the threats of extremist attacks.
One US tourist in Paris said she was going to be more cautious at stations and airports.
