Wagah Border Ceremony |Exploring Amritsar, Food Tour, Shopping With 'City On Pedals'
I have explored Amritsar with ‘City On Pedals’ in this vlog. This was a complete backpacking trip where I travelled solo from New Delhi to Amritsar. I took Wagah- Attari Border tour, food tour on cycle, heritage walk tour, and also Golden Temple early morning visit with City on Pedals. I had such a great experience of exploring Amritsar city with City On Pedals and I am sure you guys would enjoy watching me explore the city in this video. Also, this is Part 1 of Amritsar series. Pul Kanjari – This historical village (last village on India-Pakistan border) is situated almost 38 km away from Amritsar on Amritsar-Lahore road, near Daoka and Audhar villages on Wagah Border. Pul Kanjari is one of the heritage sites built by Maharaja Ranjt Singh. It is said that the king used to rest at this village while travelling with his troops. Pul Kanjari was an important trading centre during his reign. If stories to be believed, then the village was named after a pul (bridge), which was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh for a dancer Moran who was of kanjari caste. One day while crossing the canal, her one shoe fell into the water, which vexed her a great deal, and a bridge was constructed on her insistence. Hence, the name Pul Kanjari.

Wagah- Attari Border (Beating Retreat Ceremony)– Wagah-Attari border is broadly known as Wagah Border. It is an international border between India & Pakistan. Attari is Indian Territory in Amritsar zone of Punjab in India and Wagah is Pakistan territory in Lahore zone. Wagah Parade, which is very famous as Beating retreat Ceremony, happens every day before sunset and people from all over the county and even foreigners come to watch it. There are even special sitting arrangements for foreigners. You can witness patriotism at its best during this ceremony.
The soldiers of beating retreat ceremony are specially appointed and trained. BSF drums are played, parade is done, Bollywood patriotism songs are played, people hoots. During the sunset, the main gates (actual division line between India & Pakistan) are opened at both the sides and the flags of both the countries are lowered simultaneously in cross-country form. After that soldiers at both the sides of the gates shake hands and post that gates are closed. National Flags are taken to the secure place with utmost respect by BSF (Border Security Force) from India and Pakistan Rangers from Pakistan. Even woman guards have been made the part of this ceremony since 2011. There are two more locations in India where such ceremonies take place but they are not as grand as the one happening at Wagah-Attari border.

Amritsar Street Food Tour - Best of Amritsar Food 2018
We were lucky to have got a hold of the Statusbrew team, our first-ever corporate client, for our Amritsar Street Food Tour. Kritima ( from the Statusbrew team was very kind to talk about our tour while we were enjoying the delicious street food of our city. We made 6 different stops to try nearly 15 different dishes at 8 different street food vendors. We were accompanied by Ben McKechnie ( - an avid traveler, street food lover and BBC photographer.
Some of the main dishes we covered on our tour were Pakode (nearly 4 different varieties), Gol Gappe, Roasted Momos, Aam Papad (nearly 10 different varieties), Soya Chaamp (nearly 3 different varieties), Butter Chicken, Baby Gulab Jamun, and Jalebi. We try bite-sized portions at every stall to be able to try out all the dishes until the end.
The dinner place is a surprise and depends on whether the participants are vegetarian or non-vegetarian. For both the preferences, we have chosen some of the best and most famous dhabas of the city.
