Palma de Mallorca is the capital city on the Balearic Islands in Spain. Popular stop for cruise ships and also as a holiday destination for the rich and famous, this video takes you on a city tour of some of the highlights like Bellver Castle (oldest round castle in Europe), Barrio Goticho Bullring (which still hosts fights) and the massive Gothic Palma Cathedral.
This tour is based on a city tour I did with MSC Cruises

City Sightseeing Tour Palma de Malorca 2015 (HD, Spain)
Majorca or Mallorca (/məˈjɔrkə/ or /-ˈdʒɔr-/;[1] Catalan: Mallorca [məˈʎɔrkə], Spanish: Mallorca [maˈʎorka])[2] is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is the largest island in the Balearic Islands archipelago, in Spain.
The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The Balearic Islands have been an autonomous region of Spain since 1983.[3] The Cabrera Archipelago is administratively grouped with Majorca (in the municipality of Palma). The anthem of Majorca is La Balanguera.
Like the other Balearic Islands of Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera, the island is an extremely popular holiday destination, particularly for tourists from Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian countries, the United States and Canada. The international airport, Palma de Mallorca Airport, is one of the busiest in Spain, and was used by 23.1 million passengers in 2014.[4]
The name derives from Latin insula maior, larger island; later Maiorica, the larger one in comparison to Minorca, the smaller one.

Walking in PALMA DE MALLORCA / Spain ????????- Portixol to City - 4K 60fps (UHD)
We are on the Spanish Balearic Island of Mallorca. During the winter months this popular summer vacation destination is quiet and relaxed. Palma's Portixol Harbour is one possible longer walk or shorter bike trip. We did already walk here - now it's time to head back to Palma.
First we walk to the Obelisco La Gaviota ( 8:00 ) and turn around. On this chilly yet sunny winter day we pass the Marítimo Molinar, Rigo beach, the club nautico and finally the beach Ses Troners.
We are getting closer to the city now and Mallorca's Cathedral ( 47:00 ). We head up to the city centre, see a bit of the city and end this tour at the central Plaza Mayor.

Palma de Mallorca (Video -3), Spain
The city of Palma de Mallorca is a fitting capital, not only of Mallorca, but also of the Balearic islands. Set in the beautiful bay of Palma, famous for its stunning sunsets, the city's most imposing site is the huge 13th century cathedral. Over 325,000 people live in Palma. This is half the entire population of the Balearic Islands. During the busy summer months, the population can literally double.

We’re talking about Palma, the capital of Mallorca, full of architecture and art, culture and history.
Let’s start with our favourite part: the old Arab quarter. Firstly is Palma’s cathedral, ‘La Seu’. It was built on the site of a mosque which, in turn, was built on the site of a Roman citadel.
Building began in 1229 and didn’t finish until 1601. The whole area around La Seu is actually really beautiful. Parc de la Mar is a river and some greenery. It’s definitely worth a walk around. It actually looks a little bit like the Notre Dame.
Second up is right next to La Seu and this is the Royal Palace of La Almudaina. - This Arabic palace used to be right on the sea front, so all around here is actually reclaimed land that was built up in the 1950s. And apparently the ships would bring all their good and produce right up to here, and it would be brought up and taken in to the palace, where the Arab king or Sheikh would live.
Speaking of beautiful, the tree-lined promenades of La Rambla and Passeig des Born are packed with newspaper sellers and florists… It makes for a picture-perfect stroll I think.
When it comes to nightlife, La Lonia is probably the most popular area. It has tonnes of bars and restaurants. But if you’re looking for a boogie, nightclubs and late-night bars can be found at the marina.
The morning after, when streets are being cleaned and everyone’s sleeping off that night before, is a really good time to head just outside the city to Bellver Castle, Castell de Bellver, which we think is one of Palma’s hidden gems. It’s about a 10 minute drive in a taxi or you can get a bus there too.
And just a little nerdy castle fact for you, it’s one of the few round cake castles in Europe. Like a bundt cake. It’s like a circular shape.
We were just wondering why it’s built in a circular shape and so I looked it up and apparently it’s inspired by the Herodium in the West Bank [Judaean Desert], which was obviously built by King Herod back in the day. Which is pretty interesting.
One recommendation is that you come early in the morning though because it does get really busy. So come as soon as the doors open. It’s a little cooler as well.
So here’s another example of pre-Teleotic culture, as you can see that iconic ‘M’ which still resides in today’s culture… The McDonald’s sign…
We can’t forget to mention Palma’s urban beach. And if you’re on the beach you have some great views back to the castle, as well as to La Seu.
We absolutely loved Palma. I’d definitely go back. - Yeah, I’d absolutely second that. It’s beautiful.
So thanks for watching and obviously, Mallorca doesn’t begin and end at Palma so do check out our video about things to do on the whole of the island. And don’t forget to subscribe. Thanks for watching! Bye!
Walking in PALMA de MALLORCA / Spain - Castell de Bellver to Old Town - 4K 60fps (UHD)
Up at the Castell de Belver we check what's there inside: Video 2 of 2 walking the Cstell and back to town. We have the way to Castell de Belver here:
Just a few tourist groups on this day. After we enjoy the view from the roof we make out way down to the city. There pass through the outskirts of Palma. In the afternoon life is quiet with some siesta time.
It's long way back to the Old Town after all. We still roam through the streets of Palma on this nice afternoon and end up at the Plaça d'Espanya.

Beyond sailing - Sightseeing & Shopping in Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca offers a lot of variety for sailing crews: If you spend your holidays sailing through the Balearics and if you are close to Mallorca you should definitely go ashore at this Mediterranean port.
Pama de Mallorca, Spain - Hop on Hop Off Bus
After leaving port from our celebrity cruise line
The 15 min. bus ride dropped us right across the street from the Cathedral. After crossing the street to the Cathedral to take pictures and video, Just a quarter mile down the sidewalk is the hop on hop off bus. After hopping on and hopping off to the bus tour, one of the stops is right next to the beach. There was no restrooms at the beach so you definitely need to make sure you wear your swimsuit before leaving the cruise line. After spending three hours at the beach, it was a 30 min. walk back to the Bus stop. We were there for total of 10 hours.
