Sergiev Posad is a city in North Moscow Oblast,
which is famous for its Troitse-Sergiev Monastery,
the spiritual home of the Russian Orthodox Church.
It is often visited as a part of the Golden Ring around Moscow.
Trains leave every 30 minutes between Sergiev Posad and Moscow's Yaroslavsky train station.
The station is located at Komsomolskaya metro station (red line). A one-way ticket to Sergiev Posad costs 176 rubles
(1.5 h, prices in July, 2018) and 181 rubles(2014) on express (5-6 times a day, 1 h). It is an easy day trip from Moscow.
Bus 388 is available at VDNKh (VVTs) for 145 rubles every 15 minutes. However,
be aware of jams about from MKAD to Pushkino almost always in rather extended rush hours.
To get to the town by car take Yaroslavskoe highvay from Rizhski Vokzal (Rizhski train station) or VVTs (VDNKh) -
it takes approximately 2 hours to get to Posad: distance is 70km (40 miles), however see above about jams.
Construction of new intersection between Korolyov and Mytishchi simplified things with the jam a little,
but parts of M8 highway before and after intersection are still crowded because of bottlenecks closer to MKAD and in Klyaz'ma village.
The main tourist spot is the monastery. It can be seen from station and can be reached by foot in about 10 minutes.
The reason why one should see the city is the monastery. The monastery of Sergiev Posad is one of the most beautiful monasteries
in Russia and one of the principal spiritual centers of the Russian Church.
It is a combination of a fortress and a monastery. The seminary of the Russian Orthodox Church is located in the buildings of the complex.
There are several churches to see, a holy source and in general the whole complex with its massive walls and gates is very picturesque.
There are no admission price to pay except for the museum, which shows old religious objects and woven pictures of saints.
At the weekend the monastery can get very crowded, as it hosts some very important icons (at least copies of them).
In return it can be very interesting to observe the believers kissing the icons and praying for hours.
The grave of Boris Godunov (of Pushkin's play and Russian history) and some family members is also located here.
There is a restaurant called Rusky Dvorik (Russian courtier) which is quite good,
but also expensive taking into consideration the general price level of Russian province.
It is located just in front of the entry of the monastery.
Inside the monastery (entering through the main gate and going to the left) there is a really good bakery-pastry,
with local products that seem to be very popular among Russian visitors.
There is also a McDonald's restaurant on the modern part of the town.
Kvas - the traditional cold drink with specific taste: it was prepared based on bread. Some people say it is a bit similar with dark beer.
Mors - berry drink, may be made from any red barries, usually cranberry
Medovukha - low-alcohol drink based on honey
Moscow — about 2 h by train or 2-3 by bus 388, which arrives to VVTs (VDNKh)for around 145 rubles, as of 12 June 2011.
Pushkino — 1 h by train or bus (halfway to Moscow)
Mytishchi and Korolyov — 1.5 h (between Pushkino and Moscow)
Alexandrov is further 50 min by elektrichka and 40 min by express trains (about 5 a day).
Torbeevo Lake - a picturesque recreation place on crossing M8 with A108 (second betonka) not far from the town.
Not much in sense of infrastructure there, and there may be a lot of people in a good day, including those passing by the highway,
but the views may be nice. Took local buses in direction to Bereznyaki
(?? 28,81,120, 15 minutes walk from Bereznyaki, or if you're lucky - even closer from the next stop).
Pereslavl Zalessky can be reached by bus (about 10 a day, some of them running rather late at night.
Most of them are bound further to Yaroslavl, Kostroma or Rybinsk or by hitchhike - for hitchhike start either with local buses ?26 to Krasnozavodsk up
to the turn from the highway, every 10-15 min, or to Torbeevo lake,
than to M8, or by train to Buzhaninovo station

Red Square & Manege Square:
Red Square is a city square (plaza) in Moscow, Russia. It separates the Kremlin, the former royal citadel and currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant quarter known as Kitai-gorod. Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow since Moscow's major streets, which connect to Russia's major highways, originate from the square.
The name Red Square neither originates from the pigment of the surrounding bricks (which, in fact, were whitewashed at certain periods) nor from the link between the colour red and communism. Rather, the name came about because the Russian word красная (krasnaya), which means both red and beautiful, was applied to a small area between St. Basil's Cathedral, the Spassky Tower of the Kremlin, and the herald's platform called Lobnoe Mesto (contrary to the common misconception, it actually never was a place of execution), and Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich officially extended the name to the entire square, which had previously been called Pozhar, or burnt-out place, in reference to the fact that several buildings had to be burned down to make place for the square.[citation needed] Several ancient Russian towns, such as Suzdal, Yelets, and Pereslavl-Zalessky, have their main square named Krasnaya ploshchad.
The buildings surrounding the Square are all significant in some respect. Lenin's Mausoleum, for example, contains the embalmed body of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, the founder of the Soviet Union. Nearby to the South is the elaborate brightly domed Saint Basil's Cathedral and the palaces and cathedrals of the Kremlin.
Kremlin,Lenin Mausoleum State Museum,Kazan Cathedral,V. Gates,GUM store,Saint Basil
On the Eastern side of the square is the GUM department store, and next to it the restored Kazan Cathedral. The Northern side is occupied by the State Historical Museum, whose outlines echo those of Kremlin towers. The Iberian Gate and Chapel have been rebuilt to the Northwest.
The only sculptured monument on the square is a bronze statue of Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, who helped to clear Moscow from the Polish invaders in 1612, during the Times of Trouble. Nearby is the so‑called Lobnoye Mesto, a circular platform where public ceremonies used to take place. Both the Minin and Pozharskiy statue and the Lobnoye Mesto were once located more centrally in Red Square but were moved to their current locations to facilitate the large military parades of the Soviet era. The square itself is around 330 meters (1,080 feet) long and 70 meters (230 feet) wide.
The Kremlin and Red square were together recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990, due to their inextricable links to Russian history since the 13th century.
Manezhnaya or Manege Square (Russian: Манежная площадь, Manezhnaya ploshchad) is a large pedestrian open space in the Tverskoy District, at the heart of Moscow. It is bound by the Hotel Moskva to the east, the State Historical Museum and the Alexander Garden to the south, the Moscow Manege to the west, and the 18th-century headquarters of the Moscow State University to the north.
The square forms a vital part of downtown Moscow, connecting Red Square (which sprawls behind the Iberian Gate immediately to the south) with the major traffic artery Tverskaya Street, which starts here and runs northwestward in the direction of Saint Petersburg. It is served by three Moscow Metro stations: Okhotny Ryad, Ploshchad Revolyutsii, and Teatralnaya.Wikipedia

Santa Klaus on Red Square
Red Square (Russian: Красная площадь, Krasnaya ploshchad) is the most famous city square in Moscow. The square separates the Kremlin, the former royal citadel and currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant quarter, known as Kitay-gorod (china-town). As major streets of Moscow radiate from here in all directions, being promoted to major highways outside the city, the Red Square is often considered the central square of Moscow and of all Russia.
The rich history of Red Square is reflected in many artworks, including paintings by Vasily Surikov, Konstantin Yuon, and others. The land that Red Square is situated on was originally covered with wooden buildings, but cleared by Ivan III's edict in 1493, as those buildings were dangerously susceptible to fires. The newly-opened area (originally known simply as the Pozhar, or burnt-out place) gradually came to serve as Moscow's primary marketplace. Later, it was also used for various public ceremonies and proclamations, and occasionally as the site of coronation for Russia's tsars. The square has been gradually built up since that point, and has been used for official ceremonies by all Russian governments since it was established.
The name of Red Square derives not from the colour of the bricks around it, nor from the link between the colour red and Communism. Rather, the name came about because the Russian word красная (krasnaya) can mean either red or beautiful (the latter meaning is archaic). The word was originally applied (with the meaning beautiful) to Saint Basil's Cathedral, and was subsequently transferred to the nearby square. It is believed that the square acquired its current name (replacing the older Pozhar) in the 17th century. Several ancient Russian towns, such as Suzdal, Yelets, or Pereslavl-Zalessky, have their main square named Krasnaya ploshchad, namesake of Moscow's Red Square.
During the Soviet era Red Square maintained its significance, becoming the main square in the life of the new state. Besides being the official address of the Soviet government, it was renowned as the location for military parades. Kazan Cathedral and Iverskaya Chapel with the Resurrection Gates were demolished to make room for heavy military vehicles driving through the square. There were plans to demolish Moscow's most recognized building, Saint Basil's Cathedral, as well. The legend is that Lazar Kaganovich, Stalin's associate and director of the Moscow reconstruction plan, prepared a special model of Red Square, in which the cathedral could be removed, and brought it to Stalin to show how the cathedral was an obstacle for parades and traffic. But when he jerked the cathedral out of the square, Stalin objected with his famous quote: Lazar! Put it back!
Two of the most significant military parades on Red Square were the one in 1941, when the city was besieged by Germans, and troops were leaving Red Square straight to the front lines, and the Victory Parade in 1945, when the banners of defeated Nazi armies were thrown at the foot of Lenin's Mausoleum.
On May 28, 1987, a German pilot named Mathias Rust landed a light aircraft on St Basils' Descent next to Red Square.
In 1990, the Kremlin and Red Square were among the very first sites in the USSR added to UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Red Square served as a virtual pit stop in the The Amazing Race 9.
In recent years, Red Square has served as a venue for high-profile concerts. Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, and many other celebrities performed there. For the New Year 2006 and 2007 celebrations, a skating rink was set up on Red Square. Paul McCartney's performance there was a historic moment for many, as The Beatles were banned in Russia, preventing any live performances there of any of The Beatles, Russia also banned the sales of Beatle records, and this was the first time that a Beatle performed in Russia.

The Spasso- Prilutsky Monastery in Vologda
The Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery is located outside the old city of Vologda, on the bank of the Vologda River. The history of this monastery goes back to the 14th-century and Sergius Radonzh and his followers and was founded by Dmitry Prilutsky, formerly a hegumen of the Nikolsky Monastery in Pereslavl-Zalessky.The monastery is built as a fortress, has an approximately rectangular shape, and is completely surrounded by a wall, which has four corner towers and three gates. The wall was completed in 1656. The main cathedral is the Saint Saviour Cathedral , built in 1537-1542 and was the first stone building in Vologda.
In August 1924, the monastery was abolished. The buildings were subsequently used for a variety of purposes, including living quarters, a prison, a depot, and a museum. Fortunately all the buildings consisting the ensemble of the monastery were preserved. ……
In 1962, the wooden Assumption Church, which was formerly located in the Alexandro-Kushtsky Monastery close to the selo of Ustye, was transferred here. This is one of the earliest surviving wooden buildings in Russia.
In 1991, the monstery was handed back to the Russian Orthodox Church
