RV Camping in the City of Rocks State Park, New Mexico - one our cross-country road trip to Tucson, we stopped the night at the City of Rocks. We really wished we would have had more time because we LOVED it and did not have enough time to explore it all.

CITY OF ROCKS, NM | Campendium TOP STATE PARK! | RV Life
Visited City of Rocks State Park during our full time RV travels and it was one of the best parks we have stayed at to date. It is listed as the #7 park in the nation on Campendium's list and we can see why. Much to do here, including hiking, biking, start gazing, and learning about our solar system. This should be on everyone's list of places to visit.

Travel Guide New Mexico tm City of Rocks State Park
Rock formations like those at the City of Rocks State Park exist in only six other places in the world. Imaginative visitors may see the rock formations as a small city with houses, chimneys, courtyards and streets. Visitors can choose from 62 campsites scattered among the rocks, from which they can hike, bird watch, picnic, bike, take in the interpretive exhibits at the visitor center, explore the parks botanical garden or star gaze.City of Rocks State Park lies in the Mimbres Valley of the Chihuahuan desert. The park and surrounding grassland support yucca, agave, cacti and ocotillo, while growing among the rocks are Emory and gray oak. Mule deer, roadrunners, javelinas, cactus wrens, western diamondback rattlesnakes, ground squirrels, coyotes and jackrabbits all make their home here. Until 1200 A.D., Mimbres Indians roamed this area, leaving arrowheads and pottery shards as evidence of their culture. The park also lies within the traditional homelands of the Chiricahua and Warm Springs Apache. Spanish explorers and settlers arrived in 1500 and mule trains loaded with copper from the nearby Santa Rita mine passed nearby on their way to Chihuahua from 1804 to 1834. After the Mexican War of 1846-48, the Mormon Battalion blazed a trail south of the park to link newly acquired New Mexico and Arizona with the eastern United States.

City of Rocks State Park
One of our favorite places in Southern New Mexico. A great daytrip from Las Cruces, or a great palce to camp for a few days. First-time visitors are amazed by the city of giant boulders rising out of the desert landscape. Also a great place to view the night skies.
Driving Around Deming, New Mexico
Deming is a city in Luna County, New Mexico, United States, located 60 miles (97 km) west of Las Cruces and thirty-three miles north of the Mexican border.
Deming is named after Mary Ann Deming Crocker, wife of Charles Crocker, one of The Big Four of the railroad industry. The Silver Spike was driven here in 1881 to commemorate the meeting of the Southern Pacific with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe railroads. This was the second transcontinental railroad to be completed in the United States.
