Cleopatra's Needle-Heliopolis Obelisk in New York
The New York City needle was erected in Central Park, just west of (The Metropolitan
Museum of Art) on February 22, 1881. It was secured in May 1877 by judge Elbert E. Farman,
the then-United States Consul General at Cairo, as a gift from Khedive for the United
States remaining a friendly neutral as the European powers -- France and Britain--maneuvered
to secure political control of the Egyptian Government.
The formidable task of moving the Obelisk from Alexandria to New York is a 240-ton, 68
foot 10 inch, single shaft of red granite from the Assuân (formerly Syene) Quarries at the
1st Cataract of the Nile. The 220-ton granite needle was first shifted from vertical to
horizontal, nearly crashing to ground in the process. In August 1879 the movement process
was suspended for two months due to local protests and legal challenges. Once those were
resolved the obelisk was transported seven miles to Alexandria and then put into the hold
of the steamship Dessoug which set sail June 12, 1880. The obelisk was loaded through the
ship's hole by rolling it upon cannonballs.
The obelisk and its 50-ton pedestal arrived at the Quarantine Station in New York in
early July 1880. It took 32 horses hitched in pairs to bring it from the banks of the
Hudson River to Central Park, finally arriving on July 20, 1880. The final leg of the
journey was made across a specially built trestle bridge from Fifth Avenue to its new home
on Greywacke Knoll, just across the drive from the then recently built Metropolitan Museum
of Art. It look 112 days from Quarantine Station to arrive at the knoll. A special railroad
trestle bridge was built to transport the New York Obelisk from 96th street to its final
resting place on Graywacke Knoll in Central Park. The movement was accomplished by pushing
the obelisk by steam engine.
Jesse B. Anthony, Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York, presided as the
cornerstone for the obelisk was laid in place with full Masonic ceremony on October 2,
1880. Over nine thousand Masons paraded up Fifth Avenue from 14th Street to 82nd Street and
it was estimated that over fifty thousand spectators lined the parade route. The
benediction was presented by R.W. Louis C. Gerstein. The obelisk was righted by a special
structure built by Henry Honychurch Gorringe. By the time it finally entered Central Park,
it was the dead of winter. The official ceremony for erecting it was January 22, 1881.
Today the surface of the stone is heavily weathered, nearly masking the rows of Egyptian
hieroglyphs engraved on all sides. Photographs taken near the time the obelisk was erected
in the park show that the inscriptions or hieroglyphs, as depicted below with translation,
were still quite legible and date first from Thutmosis III and then nearly 300 years
later, Ramesses II the Great. The stone had stood in the clear dry Egyptian desert air for
nearly 3000 years and had undergone little weathering. In a little more than a century in
the climate of New York City, pollution and acid rain have heavily pitted its surfaces. In
2010, Dr. Zahi Hawass, sent an open letter to the president of the Central Park Conservancy
and the Mayor of New York City insisting on improved conservation efforts. If they are not
able to properly care for the obelisk, he has threatened to take the necessary steps to
bring this precious artifact home and save it from ruin.
Obelisks - Cleopatra's Needle 6th Grade Social Studies
This is a video about Cleopatra's Needle for my 6th grade social studies project. I researched how obelisks are built and why they were made. My family and I went to New York City to the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is where the only Egyptian Obelisk in the United States is located. If you walk behind the museum into New York's Central Park, you can visit Cleopatra's Needle.
New York City video tour Central Park #7 4K
In this, the 7th installment in a muli-part Central Park series, we continue to head north in the park and enter the Great Lawn. We also walk past the Delacorte Theater known for Shakespeare in the Park and other free performances. Then we head towards the Obelisk also known as Cleopatra's Needle. The Obelisk is the oldest man-made object in the park and the oldest outdoor monument in New York City. Finally, we end up at the Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis Reservoir. Many think the reservoir supplies NYC with it's water. In reality, if that were the case, the supply would last six hours! New York City actually gets it's water from a series of tunnels that originate in up-state New York. If you enjoy, please like, comment and subscribe!

Powered by - Central Park is a public park at the center of Manhattan in New York City. The park initially opened in 1857, on 778 acres (315 ha) of city-owned land (it is 840 acres today). In 1858, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux won a design competition to improve and expand the park with a plan they entitled the Greensward Plan. Construction began the same year, continued during the American Civil War, and was completed in 1873. Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States.
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962, the park is currently managed by the Central Park Conservancy under contract with the city government. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization that contributes 83.5% of Central Park's $37.5 million annual budget, and employs 80.7% of the park's maintenance staff.

Must-have iPhone app for the birder: Audubon Birds
Approximately 230 different species of birds can be found in Central Park during the year. Most birds are more active in the early morning and late afternoon, although there will be some activity throughout the day. Some birds live in Central Park all year long, while others visit only at certain times of the year. Central Park has become an important stopover for several species to rest and feed during fall and spring migrations. In late spring and summer, many birds in Central Park build their nests, lay eggs and raise their young. Watch for young birds learning to fly.

The Worlds Tallest Obelisk & The True Meaning Of The Obelisk
In future time, then may the pilgrim's eye see here an obelisk point toward the sky... — Anonymous poet
The above prediction was penned in the poem: Ode to San Jacinto, even before the Republic of Texas became the State of Texas. Today, the world's tallest war memorial stands at San Jacinto, honoring all those who fought for Texas' independence. Immediately after the battle, the land — then privately owned — commanded respect from all who walked on its soil. The Texas Veterans Association began planning a formal monument, and the state finally received funding to purchase the land in the 1890s.
After years of pushing by the Sons and Daughters of the Republic of Texas, as well as help from President Roosevelt's Secretary of Commerce Jesse H. Jones — a prominent Houstonian — its proponents raised enough money to build a fitting monument.
The monument's design was the brainchild of architect Alfred C. Finn and engineer Robert J. Cummins, both Houstonians. Construction ran from 1936 to 1939. Its builder was the W. S. Bellows Construction Co. of Dallas and Houston. The impressive structure alone — apart from its historical significance — is worth a trip to San Jacinto Battleground. At 570 feet, this Texas giant is one of the finest examples of Moderne (Art Deco) architecture in the United States, and is recognized as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The Empire of The City - Three City States: London, Vatican, District of Columbia
The Empire of The City - Three City States - London, the Vatican, and the District of Columbia.
The Empire of the City consists of three cities, which belong to no nation or state and pay no taxes: Vatican City, the City of London (inside London), and Washington DC. Vatican City controls the world through religion, the City of London controls the world through currency, and Washington DC controls the world through force.
The City of London (or the Square Mile) is a plot of land approximately a square mile in London. It is independent from England and is ruled by the City of London Corporation.
Located in the center of each city is an Egyptian obelisk erect. They are: the obelisk in St. Peter’s Square, the Washington Monument, and Cleopatra’s Needle in the City of London. One question that immediately springs to mind is why is there an Egyptian obelisk, which is a tribute to the Egyptian sun god Amen-Ra, in the middle of Vatican City? Contained within these three cities is more than 80% of the world’s wealth.
The Empire of “the City” is essentially the British Empire, or more accurately, the forces behind the British Empire of the past. The Empire asserts its control over its colonies (such as the US, Canada, Australia, the European Union) through complicated means.
One of their means of control is to have agents of their cause in high places of influence. This cabal of powerful manipulators is known collectively as the Illuminati, the Shadow Government, the Omega Agency, the Government within the Government, and so on. It does not matter what they are called. They are there and have been actively and legislatively writing away our freedoms and also have been working towards the New World Order. Examples of this is the Patriot Acts, H. R. Bill 1955, the European Union Constitution, and the Security and Prosperity Partnership.

Mobile Game Pokemon Go Gains Popularity in US
Pokemon Go has become the most popular mobile game in United States with its number of active daily users surpassing the hottest social networking Twitter.
It happens only days after the games was released in the country on July 7.
Gamers said Pokemon Go is highly addictive.
Whenever I try to go out, I try to play it. Look at my phone and see if there are any Pokemon around, said a user.
One of the fun aspects of the game is that it encourages you to explore. The more you do, the more Pokemon you get and the more you interact with other players.
For instance, the obelisk in Central Park known as Cleopatra's Needle is a so-called gym or meeting place where gamers can battle it out against each other.
I'm getting lots of exercise. I've walked probably like six miles today walking around Central Park just taking the day off. Enjoying myself, said a gamer.
Joost Van Dreunen, chief executive officer of SuperData Research, said the game resonates, in part, because so many people grew up with the original Pokemon and, in part, because it's a social game.
Most of it revolves around them talking about it like the crazy thing that they saw where they're going next or how they can kind of crack it, like if I ride my bicycle 15 miles an hour, then I can sort of optimize how many Pokeballs I find on my route, or whatever. So the social aspect is huge, he said.
For the Japanese company Nintendo, that created the game app, Pokemon Go has just brought huge economic gains, with its market value reaching about 7.5 billion U.S. dollars in just two days after its release. More on:
