Litchi Waypoint flight - Nelligen, a small riverside town on the Clyde River, Batemans Bay filmed with a DJI Phantom 4 drone. Nelligen is an historic and peaceful village of about 250 people on the South Coast of NSW Australia. Nelligen is a tiny town located on the Clyde River upstream from Batemans Bay. Located on the Kings Highway it is little more than a hotel, a cafe and a few homes. Its appeal lies in its easy access to the river and it is particularly interesting as a minor chapter in the wild history of the Clarke Gang - bushrangers who marauded through the district during the Araluen goldrush of the 1860s. Today its points of interest include the opportunity to hire a houseboat and cruise around the peaceful Clyde River and a crusty, and very dead, tree stump which is an integral part of the history of the Clarke gang.
The picturesque, historic village of Nelligen is a real retreat - a peaceful little village set along the banks of the pristine Clyde River. The soothing tranquillity of the river is matched by the silence of the surrounding forest. Nelligen's once bustling streets are now quiet and serene.

Serious bushwalkers might like to follow the route of early settlers for trading and explore the challenging Corn Trail that traverses some demanding terrain of the Monga National Park.
Strolling through Nelligen's tranquil streets offers you the chance to experience some of Nelligen's interesting history. You can still find reminders of the pioneer times and the gold rush that briefly visited the region. The charming little pub is the perfect spot to have a cold one and relax or have a tasty, hearty meal.
Nelligen has long been a favoured destination for houseboats for weekend getaways or longer term escapes where you are the master and commander on the tranquil Clyde River. Ashore there are quaint bed & breakfasts, great camping, cabins and self-contained waterfront units. From some, casting a fishing line can be achieved from the comfort of your balcony.
In the early days, Nelligen was the end of the line in the sense that all commerce and goods from the hinterland made their way to the town from where they were loaded onto ships for the ensuing sea journey to Sydney and more distant destinations.
Conversely, trade to the Southern Tablelands or people wishing to travel to that region used Nelligen as the final staging place from where they could ascend the escarpment to their destinations. In those days, Nelligen was a busy trade and commercial centre and much larger than it is today.
The barrier to the coast formed by the Clyde River, which is in its wide, estuarine state here, was finally breached in the 1960's with the construction of a bridge, which then linked the road from the Southern Highlands to the Princes Highway and (by way of the recently constructed Clyde River bridge on the highway) to Batemans Bay.
After that, the commercial centre for the region gradually drifted to Batemans Bay which has now grown to be the largest town on the coast south of Nowra.
Today, Nelligen is a peaceful village enjoying a rest from its bustling past. It is popular with local people and visitors for the beauty and recreational facilities enjoyed on the river at this point. The long, wide reaches of the river are popular for water skiing, fishing and boating. You can rent a houseboat here to enjoy a peaceful holiday right on one of the most beautiful rivers in the state. Yet you can still find reminders of the pioneer days, including the gold rush which briefly visited the region in the nineteenth century.
There are a number of choices of accommodation available in the town, ranging from camping to more upmarket accommodation at the well known Steampacket Hotel or at some of the historic and renovated Nelligen guesthouses

Once we found the campsite outside of Batemans bay we knew we would settle in there for a little bit. We had a really good time hanging out at the national park, exploring and snorkeling and above all meeting new friends, Riley and Kodie and also (not in the video :( ) Sasha and Jess whom we met the first night :)

Buildings destroyed as out-of-control NSW bushfire races towards beach communities | ABC News
A bushfire burning out of control on the New South Wales South Coast has destroyed at least one home and shut off escape routes for residents in nearby coastal communities.
The fire, north of Batemans Bay at Currowan, which is subject to an emergency warning, crossed the Princes Highway into Murramarang National Park on Monday, bolstered by strong westerly winds.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said one house on the Clyde River, as well as other structures, were destroyed in the afternoon but no further details were available.

Rock Fishing and Camping at Mystery Bay
I wasn't too sure if I should stopover at Mystery Bay for the night as I heard bad reviews of the camping ground. I didn't mind it as the bay was nicely sheltered for snorkelling. I had a go at fishing off the rocks at Boat Harbour Point, but didn't get any bites.
