America’s farmworkers work long, hard hours at low wages that keep our food prices low. As a result, many farmworkers, including the residents of Shady Lane Mobilehome Park, face dangerously poor living conditions.
Shady Lane Mobilehome Park, located in the Coachella Valley, is home to about 40 migrant farmworkers families. At the park, electricity outages often last for weeks, leaving residents without air conditioning during the summer when temperatures top 115 degrees. Many families are forced to sleep outside when the heat is unbearable. Running water is unreliable, often shutting down for days. The park’s septic system frequently malfunctions, causing waste to overflow during the rainy season and when residents wash clothing or use toilets. Homes are falling apart, letting rain and cockroaches inside. Dr. Kenneth Russ, a physician who has consulted with the residents, noted that the combination of deficient housing and exposure to waste at the park can be physically and emotionally traumatic, especially for children.
Instead of improving these conditions, the park owner neglected the residents. In 2011, the owner took steps towards shutting down the park, which would have left the families without anywhere to live. UC Irvine School of Law’s pro bono Community and Economic Development Clinic (CED), in collaboration with California Rural Assistance (CRLA), is working to prevent the residents from being evicted and to improve their living conditions. CED and CRLA recently negotiated a settlement agreement with the owner that would allow a nonprofit organization to purchase the park at a reduced price.
To take control of their park, residents incorporated Shady Lane Mobilehome Park, Inc. (SLMP), a registered nonprofit organization that includes residents on its board. On August 10th, SLMP is launching a 60-day Indiegogo campaign, titled “The Real Coachella,” to finance the purchase and eventual rehabilitation of the park. Once SLMP gains site control, it intends to repair the park’s electrical, water, and sewage systems, replace worn-down mobile home units, and eventually construct a community center with a playground for the community’s children.
We ask you to please consider donating any amount to SLMP’s fundraising campaign. You can have a profound impact in improving the health and quality of life of the families at Shady Lane. 100 percent of funds raised will go directly towards purchasing and rehabilitating the park.
As Robert Solomon, co-director of CED put it, “We all benefit from our farmworkers’ labor. A decent place to live seems little to give in return.”

Our Lady Of Guadalupe Annual Desert Pilgrimage + Palm Springs To Coachella + December 12, 2019
As we know, today is the annual desert pilgrimage devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe, from Palm Springs to Coachella, California, on December 12, every year.
The pilgrimage is in commemoration of the apparitions in Tepeyac Hill, Mexico, near Mexico City, by the Blessed Virgin Mary to Juan Diego, on December 9, and again on December 12, 1531. According to tradition, within six years of the apparitions, approximately six million Aztecs in Mexico converted to Catholicism.
During the apparitions Our Lady of Guadalupe requested that a shrine to her be built on the spot where she appeared. The shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in Mexico, where the apparitions occurred is now one of the most frequently visited places for pilgrimages.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas, which includes the United States.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly called Coachella or the Coachella Festival) is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. The festival's origins trace back to a 1993 concert that Pearl Jam performed at the Empire Polo Club while boycotting venues controlled by Ticketmaster. The show validated the site's viability for hosting large events, leading to the inaugural Coachella Festival being held over the course of two days in October 1999, three months after Woodstock '99. After no event was held in 2000, Coachella returned on an annual basis beginning in April 2001 as a single-day event. In 2002, the festival reverted to a two-day format. Coachella was expanded to a third day in 2007 and eventually a second weekend in 2012; it is now held on consecutive three-day weekends in April, with the same lineup each weekend. Organizers began permitting spectators to camp on the grounds in 2003, one of several expansions and additions in the festival's history.
Coachella showcases popular and established musical artists as well as emerging artists and reunited groups. It is one of the largest, most famous, and most profitable music festivals in the United States and the world.[2][3] Each Coachella staged from 2013 to 2015 set new records for festival attendance and gross revenues. The 2017 festival was attended by 250,000 people and grossed $114.6 million. Coachella's success led to Goldenvoice establishing additional music festivals at the site, including the annual Stagecoach country music festival beginning in 2007, the Big 4 thrash metal festival in 2011, and the classic rock-oriented Desert Trip in 2016.

Coachella is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
It was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick van Santen in 1999.
The event features musical artists from many genres of music, including rock, indie, hip hop, and electronic dance music, as well as art installations and sculptures.
Across the grounds, several stages continuously host live music.
The main stages are the: Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and Sahara Tent
Even though they lost money their first year, Coachella is one of the largest, most famous, and most profitable music festivals in the United States and all over the world.
Each Coachella staged from 2013 to 2015 set new records for festival attendance and gross revenues.
The 2016 festival sold 198,000 tickets and grossed $94.2 million.
The success of Coachella led to Goldenvoice establishing two additional music festivals at the site, Stagecoach and Desert Trip.
In 1999, the first year of the festival, they reportedly lost $800,000! That year, artists such as Tool, Beck, and Morrissey performed.
In 2004, this was the first year that Coachella sold out. Radiohead headlined the festival that year.
Thanks to the 1999 Woodstock disaster, fans weren’t allowed to camp out. But in 2003, Coachella organizers decided to let their concert goers put up tents.
Tupac made an appearance while Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were performing, by bringing out a computer-generated hologram of the diseased rapper.
When the festival first started, tickets were selling for just $50 per day.
Because of the slow start in 1999, they had to cancel the Coachella festival in 2000. It was brought back in April 2001 as a single day event.
At the 2008 Coachella festival, Roger Waters’ set included an inflatable pig.
This pig flew into the night and ended up landing between two homes in La Quinta, which was about a mile away.
They wanted to get the prop back, so they gave these two homeowners $10,000 and free Coachella passes for life.
Because of the popularity, they decided to expand the festival into two identical weekends.
In 2012, Goldenvoice announced that they purchased 280 acres of land in Indio, California. This is where the festival now takes place.

Big Bang will be hitting up one of the biggest music festivals of the West coast, United States in 2020!
On January 3, the '2020 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival' dropped its full artist lineup, in addition to announcing its weekend 2 pre-sale, happening now. 'Coachella' spans over two weekends, and this year, it'll take place from April 10-12 and from April 17-19, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Big Bang will be performing on Friday, April 10 and Friday, April 17. Veteran hip-hop team Epik High is also listed on this year's 'Coachella' lineup, performing on Sunday, April 12 and on Sunday, April 19.
