Riots In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 2007
Three Cambodian Buddhist monks and six riot police were hurt on December 16, 2007 in a fight that broke out when the monks tried to deliver a protest letter to the Vietnamese embassy in Phnom Penh, officials and witnesses said.
About 40 saffron-robed monks were trying to demand Vietnam stop persecuting Buddhists. When their path was blocked, they started throwing bottles and hitting the 100 riot police positioned near the embassy compound.

Cambodia: The Lost World Of The Khmer Rouge with David Adams (Pol Pot Documentary) | Timeline
Enjoying our content? You'll love the Timeline History Channel app! Download now:
Cambodia is a country of impenetrable jungles and ruins lost in time. Where kings became gods and monks still seek heavenly peace. Now, this mysterious land has begun to open up to reveal the dark beauty that has lured adventurers here for centuries. For more than 30 years, the jungles have been cut off from the modern world, and much of that time it has been a Khmer Rouge stronghold.
David Adams boldly penetrates these jungles to meet with former Khmer Rouge militants to enter the last bastion of the Khmer Rouge and visit the final resting place of one of the most ruthless killers in history, Pol Pot. Their new purpose is to protect the forests and the populations of endangered wildlife. Though jungles and along the river the trek is not easy, nor is it in vain.

Behind the walls of S-21
After five years of waging civil war, Cambodian communist forces known as the Khmer Rouge marched into Phnom Penh on April 17, 1975. They immediately began forcibly evacuating the residents of the capital and other cities, displacing more than two million people to the countryside.
The city dwellers joined rural Cambodians in an ill-fated attempt to turn the country back to year zero and establish a peasant-led agrarian society. Most of the population was forced to work 14 or more hours a day, building dikes and canals, and growing rice and other crops.
The Khmer Rouge also abolished schools, money, private property, courts of law, markets, businesses, the practice of religion, and nearly all personal freedoms.
Over the next nearly four years, as many as one of every four Cambodians died from
malnutrition, hard labor, or disease. At least another 200,000 were executed without trial.
Vietnamese troops and the forces of the United Front for the National Salvation of
Kampuchea invaded Cambodia on Christmas Day 1978. Encountering only a fleeing Khmer Rouge military and a weakened population, they moved quickly through the country and reached Phnom Penh on January 7, 1979. By late afternoon they occupied the city, which was empty save for a few hundred prisoners of war and people in hiding waiting to escape.
The next day, two Vietnamese officials who accompanied the invasion were drawn to the stench from a compound in the southern part of the city. There, they discovered the most important of the Khmer Rouge prisons, the former Tuol Sleng High School, which was known to the Khmer Rouge by the code name S-21.
Tuol Sleng was used to detain people the Khmer Rouge considered to be enemies of the state, including members of their own ranks. Of the estimated 14,000 men, women, and children held there, only about a dozen are known to have survived.
Two men who were imprisoned at Tuol Sleng, Bou Meng and Chum Mei, and a former guard, Him Huy, were interviewed for this film in 2006, more than 25 years after the tragedy of Democratic Kampuchea.
Funding for this project was generously provided by the Soros Foundations Open Society Institute under its Documents and Confronting the Past Affinity Group Project Support for DC-Cam's operations is provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Swedish International Development Agency (Sida).
S-21 Survivors today are: 1) Vann Nath aka Heng Nath, 2) Chum Mei, 3) Bou Meng, 4) Nhem Sal, 5) Touch Tem.
Tiny Toones A Fresh Start
Fresh first joined Tiny Toones in 2005 when founder KK used to teach breakdancing to the local kids in his front room. Now he is teaching and inspiring the next generation of kids at Tiny Toones. This film tells his story.

A VLOG of an evening drinking around the bars of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is the second part of the evening and starts around midnight...
The parts of this video include:
0:04 View from the balcony of The Corner 136 bar
5:08 Tiger draught beer at Ostro bar
7:50 Quick check of the Sun & Moon hotel noise situation at night
9:03 View from Route 136 bar, a newish bar that opened towards the end of 2017 and was doing well
11:54 Street 130. Inside Intoxica bar, one of my new favourite hostess bars in Phnom Penh - perfect ice cold beer every time and fun ladies.
14:20 Mototaxi to 104 Street
15:54 104 Street, Phnom Penh's answer to S0i Cowboy. The Rose bar was really bad on this night due to extreme lady drink pressure (I must have said no at least 20 times to my hostess lady's friends). Marine bar was excellent, some 'farm fresh' girls who didn't speak English inside ;)
16:33 Mototaxi to Street 51
17:29 Street 51 Clubs and bars including views of the 'Heart of Darkness' and 'Pontoon.'
19:55 Drunkenly trying to negotiate a $1 mototaxi ride
20:11 Mototaxi to the Candy Bar
21:41 2 hours well spent drinking in the Candy Bar (no inside footage unfortunately)
22:10 Mototaxi from Street 136 to Street 172 and back to Dynsey Boutique hotel
24:20 Outro
Additional comments:
$1 moto taxi rides.
I went everywhere via tuk tuk or moto taxi and never paid more than $1 for a trip. Sometimes the tuk tuks on the riverfront will insist on $2 for a short journey.
Phnom Penh is not a place to wander around alone late at night, even around the tourist areas. Cambodia is a much poorer country than Thailand, and reports of incidents against tourists/expats often are suppressed in the news.
Street 136
The Corner 136 bar is my favourite in all of Phnom Penh. The drink prices are creeping up and it's now $2 for a draught beer. My hostess lady was very friendly on this night, I told her right away I wasn't going to barfine her but she was ok with that and stayed for a couple of drinks.
Some ladies in the Phnom Penh hostess bars are only there for lady drinks, particularly the prettier ladies under 25 years old. It's best to know the score before you start buying them loads of drinks. Other times some girls will only go with Asian customers (eg. Korean, Japanese).
I heard a story about a Phnom Penh hostess bar where a Western guy bought a nice hostess 5 lady drinks, but in the end she wouldn't go to his hotel as she was only a drinks girl. He was really pissed off and was telling everyone about it...
Street 51
Sorya beer garden was being renovated at the time I visited so I can't comment on that.
Pontoon was bad on this and every night I visited Phnom Penh for this trip. It might just have been bad luck for me as nightclubs can be fickle from night to night...
