Virtual Tour: Newly Renovated Cody Firearms Museum
Cool Forgotten Weapons merch!
The Cody Firearms Museum has spent many months undergoing a complete renovation and rebuilding, and is not back fully open to the public. The new layout has not just improved visibility and put the guns in better display context, but it has actually increased the number of guns on display. When I last filmed at Cody, most of the really interesting unusual stuff was back in the vaults - but during filming this past week we had to take a remarkable number of guns out of displays to film. This is a great improvement - the Cody museum was always good, but this new design has made it the best firearms museum in the United States, in my opinion.

Tour the Cody Firearms Museum with curator Ashley Hlebinsky
The city of Cody, Wyoming is a hub for all things outdoors. Gateway to Yellowstone. Basecamp for hunters. Named for its founder, Buffalo Bill. Nestled between the Beartooth and Absaroka mountains along two of the most scenic routes in America. But for firearms lovers, Cody is home to the Cody Firearms Museum (CFM).
With an extensive firearms collection which entails over 7,000 guns and 30,000 related artifacts, it is the self-proclaimed “most comprehensive collection of American firearms in the world.” Such a collection demands a passionate and determined leader, and that’s where Ashley Hlebinsky finds herself in a position of envy for firearms lovers the world over.

Wyoming’s first ‘SantaCon’ held in Cody
Santa Claus’ big night may be past for 2019, but before his trip around the world, a party in his honor was held in Cody.
Wyoming’s first “SantaCon,” a gathering of people dressed like the big man himself, was held Saturday, Dec. 21, in conjunction with a winter brewfest.
The party featuring costume contests, games and a wide variety of microbrews, was the creation of Janie Curtis, who said she had seen similar events in other communities.
“There’s not a whole lot going on in Cody this time of year, people are always looking for something to do,” she told Cowboy State Daily. “So I thought it would be fun to pair the brewfest with some kind of theme and SantaCon, to my knowledge, has never happened in Cody or even in Wyoming.”
The event helped raise money and awareness for “Got Your Six Outdoors,” a veteran support group in Cody.
“I’m always looking for organizations in town to support with my events,” Curtis said. “I try to choose organizations that could help anybody and touch as many different kinds of people as possible, so the veterans group was just kind of a natural choice.”
Curtis is also the organizer for the Bill Cody Races, another event that raises money for Cody charities.
Given the success of this year’s SantaCon, Curtis said she will absolutely put on the state’s second such event next year.
“I’ve heard about some costumes that people are planning,” she said. “People are definitely getting in to it, not just Santa, but theme Santas and elves and reindeer and just kind of being creative with it.”

Colorado gunman reportedly bought 11 guns from wyoming store
The Colorado man who fatally shot a sheriff’s deputy and wounded six others Sunday in an “ambush-style” attack purchased 11 of his guns — including an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle — from a store in Wyoming, according to a report out Wednesday. Matthew Riehl, an Iraq War veteran, was sold 11 guns from 2010 to 2013 from Dave’s Guns in Laramie, Fox 31 Denver reported, citing a police report. COLORADO GUNMAN LIVESTREAMED 'AMBUSH-STYLE' SHOOTING THAT KILLED DEPUTY, REPORT SAYS The store’s owner, David Smith, reportedly called Laramie police on New Year’s Eve, after Riehl’s shooting earlier in the day from his Highlands Ranch apartment, to tell authorities he sold the cop killer guns. From April 2010 until March 2013, Riehl reportedly bought the AR-15, three semiautomatic pistols and one semiautomatic receiver, in addition to three revolvers, a shotgun, a pistol and a rifle. Smith said Riehl passed all background checks at the time. Riehl apparently stopped purchasing guns from the store owner ...

Gun Control & Red Flag Laws: Wyoming's Tyler Lindholm Says No
Wyoming House Majority Whip Tyler Lindholm spoke to Cowboy State Daily about national efforts to change gun laws following mass shootings in Texas and Ohio.
Cowboy State Daily asked Wyoming House Majority Whip Tyler Lindholm five questions about gun control measures currently discussed by Members of Congress.
Tyler Lindholm said he rejects any new gun control legislation and efforts to amend the second amendment. Tyler Lindholm said the Red Flag laws -- endorsed recently by President Donald Trump -- is a bad idea as it infringes on due process.
In the Cowboy State Daily interview, Tyler Lindholm explained the origins of the 2nd amendment and why any change to the 2nd amendment shouldn't happen and why any gun control measures shouldn't happen.
Tyler Lindholm, a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and gun rights, said that if gun laws worked there wouldn't be the incredible amount of gun violence in Chicago as Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws on the books.
Cowboy State Daily traveled to Sundance, Wyoming (Tyler Lindholm's home town) to discuss the Second Amendment, Red Flag laws, and other proposed legislation to quell gun ownership in the United States following the El Paso shooting and the Dayton shooting.
Tyler Lindholm said making AR-15s illegal won't stop the gun violence. He further said Donald Trump should not have endorsed Red Flag laws.
