Conan is a late-night talk show airing each Monday through Thursday at 11:00 p.m. eastern time on TBS in the United States. The hour-long show premiered on November 8, 2010, and is hosted by writer, comedian and performer Conan O'Brien, accompanied by his long-time sidekick Andy Richter. Describing itself as a traditional late-night talk show, Conan draws its comedy from recent news stories, political figures and prominent celebrities, as well as aspects of the show itself.
On May 17, 2017, TBS renewed the series to 2022.[2]

Episode format
Conan follows the established six-piece late night format popularized by the likes of Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson and David Letterman, and previously executed during O'Brien's tenures as host of NBC's The Tonight Show and Late Night. Each episode of Conan is 60 minutes in length, including commercials,[3] and typically consists of:

Guests come from a wide range of cultural sources, and include actors, musicians, authors, athletes and political figures.[citation needed]
Opening titles
The show opens with Richter proclaiming Coming to you from Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, it's Conan!, and introducing O'Brien, The Basic Cable Band, as well as the episode's guests. For the first several seasons, each episode had a title, which Richter would announce at the end of the opening sequence. The titles were in the style of old fashioned murder-mystery radio shows, television sitcoms, or other assorted jokes. The episode titles were dropped in early 2014.[citation needed]
The original title sequence was designed by Rob Ashe, Dan Dome and Eric McGilloway.[4] There were several different variations of the opening credits, with the final product being inspired by graphic designer Saul Bass. The opening design process was described by Ashe as utilizing organic-looking textures made of construction paper, soak them in soda, and light them in Photoshop.[4]
Monologue
O'Brien opens each episode with a monologue drawing from current news stories and issues. The monologue is sometimes accompanied by clips and brief comedy skits,[5] in addition to occasional interactions between O'Brien and Richter, and the audience.
Sketches and comedy bits

One or more comedy bits follow the monologue. Following the monologue, some comedy bits (such as those based on video clips) are presented from the monologue stage. Following the first commercial break, additional comedy sketches are typically presented from the desk area. Some sketches are original and appear only once. Occasionally an additional sketch will air between the first and second guest.

Tonight Show NBC Studios - Burbank, CA in 1999
In 1972, Johnny Carson moved The Tonight Show from the NBC studios in New York, to the NBC facility in Burbank, CA. There it has stayed since, but in 2009, the Tonight Show wil be leaving what it's known as home for 37 years to brand new, state of the art digital facilities in nearby Universal Studios.
This video footage of me at the NBC studios in Burbank, CA was taken in January of 1999.
Stick around till the end and you'll be treated to a surprise appearance by Fat Al, the former Tonight show sound engineer who, in the 90s, would occasionally show up on camera dressed only in his underwear. Alas, he doesn't do that anymore.

Universal City
Universal City is a community in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California that encompasses the 415 acre (.65 sq mi) property of Universal Studios. Approximately 70 percent of the property is in an unincorporated area of the county surrounded by the City of Los Angeles, and the remaining area is inside the Los Angeles city limits [1]. Universal City is unincorporated to avoid City of Los Angeles business taxes and regulations (the community has a building permit office on site [2], simplifying the building process).
The community continues to be home to Universal Studios. Located in Universal City are 10 Universal City Plaza (a 36-floor office building for Universal and NBC), the Sheraton Universal, the Universal Hilton, Universal Studios Hollywood (the theme park), Universal CityWalk (a shopping and entertainment center), Gibson Amphitheatre (host to concerts and other events), and Universal's studios, sets, and lots. A Metro Rail Red Line station that serves Universal City is located across the street from 10 Universal Plaza. A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department station is located at Universal CityWalk.
It is also the home to the only paid government operated fire station on private property, Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 51.

NBC Moves Operations
On September 10, 2007, NBC Universal management alerted its employees that the company planned to end its 56-year relationship with Burbank, California and sell much of the 34 acre Burbank complex. NBC Universal will relocate its vast television and cable operations to the Universal City complex. The new facilities - part of an $800 million skyline-altering development expected to be completed in 2011 - will be located adjacent to the Universal City Red Line subway station and feature an environmentally friendly West Coast news headquarters.
Thomas Properties Group is developing and will own NBC's new home. The so-called Peacock network will likely share its new space with other tenants. The first phase - the five-story, 315,000-square-foot (29,300 m²) broadcast studio with a 24-story post-production office facility and another 24-story high-rise with six stories of parking - should be finished in 2011. A 34-story office tower or condominium hotel is scheduled for completion in 2015, according to Thomas Properties. Eventually, the complex could employ about 3,200 people.
The Burbank studio was purchased in 1951. NBC plans to move The Tonight Show from Burbank to the Stage One lot at Universal Studios when Conan O'Brien takes over hosting duties upon Jay Leno's retirement in 2009. The company plans to take West Coast network and local news operations and other facilities such as the Access Hollywood set to a new state-of-the art broadcast facility across the street from Universal Studios in 2011. The new facilities will be in a new building adjacent to a subway line connecting Universal City to downtown Los Angeles. They will be across the street from Universal Studios, the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park and the CityWalk tourist destination.
Burbank Mayor Marsha Ramos was quoted as saying she was sad to learn The Tonight Show is leaving the city of 105,000. 'The Tonight Show' put us on the map, she told the Los Angeles Times. Without that line from Johnny Carson about beautiful downtown Burbank, most people wouldn't even know that we exist.
The dated Burbank property will be replaced by a modern media center featuring virtual studios, interactive graphic capabilities, a glass-walled newsroom and other high-tech features.
NBC's relocation and building plans still need approval from the City and County of Los Angeles. Several influential politicians have already raised concerns regarding the size of the project given increased traffic and congestion in the area.

STORYLINE:
The daughter of US pop singer Lionel Richie pleaded guilty on Friday to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to four days in jail.
25-year-old Nicole Richie entered court in Glendale, California on the arm of boyfriend Joel Madden.
Richie stood before the judge and softly answered guilty when asked how she pleaded to the misdemeanour charge.
She initially pleaded not guilty in February.
Ms. Richie received standard second time DUI for pleading guilty to driving under the influence. The sentence is three years, summary probation, 500 US dollars plus penalty assessments, 96 hours in the county jail, actually county or city jail and any and all terms that the DMV issues for people who drive under the influence, Carolina Lugo, Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County, told reporters.
It means that she gets the same treatment that you or I would get if we walked into the courtroom and were sentenced or pled guilty for this charge, she added.
Richie was ordered to enrol in a drug and alcohol program and must prove that she has completed it when she returns to court on Feb. 20, 2008.
Richie was arrested early on December 11 after witnesses reported seeing her black Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle headed the wrong way on a freeway in Burbank.
The California Highway Patrol said they found her parked in the car pool lane.
Richie told authorities she had smoked marijuana and taken the prescription painkiller Vicodin, a California Highway Patrol officer said at the time.
No drugs were found on her or in the car.
Richie made no comment to reporters as she left the courthouse, surrounded by private bodyguards.
Richie's jail sentence follows that of Paris Hilton, her co-star on the reality TV show The Simple Life.
Hilton recently was released after spending about 23 days in custody for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Jay Leno bids farewell to Tonight Show; Jimmy Fallon takes over
Jay Leno hosted his last ever episode of the Tonight Show on Thursday, passing the torch to Saturday Night Live veteran, Jimmy Fallon.
Leno, 63, had hosted the show for 22 years after taking over for legendary host Johnny Carson. The late-night show maintained top ratings with the chinny comic at its helm.
Leno's final show featured actor Billy Crystal, who appeared on the host's first show in 1992. Actress Sandra Bullock appeared on the second to the last show and teared up, noting how kind Leno had been to her, as well as other guests, over his two-decade tenure.
The show, which had been taped in Burbank, California, was moved to '30 Rock' in Manhattan. According to The Wrap, 164 people employed by Leno's Tonight Show lost their jobs, though NBC said it was encouraging former staffers to seek other positions at the network.
And what's next for Leno? Rumors suggest he may continue his routine elsewhere, possibly with Fox News, as the funny man's humor is clean enough for the channel's red-state audience. Others speculate he might find a place with other networks, such as CNN, while Leno himself said he plans to continue touring his stand-up comedy act.
That said, there's always a chance Leno may want to stage another re-takeover, as he did in 2010 when he handed the show over to Conan O'Brien. Leno took the show back after less than year when ratings fell.
