connecticut tourism, Top 35 Tourist Attractions in Connecticut of the northeastern United States
Connecticut is the southernmost state in the New England district of the northeastern United States. As of the 2010 Census, Connecticut highlights the most astounding per-capita salary, Human Development Index (0.962), and middle family wage in the United States. Connecticut is flanked by Rhode Island toward the east, Massachusetts toward the north, New York toward the west, and Long Island Sound toward the south. Its capital city is Hartford, and its most crowded city is Bridgeport. In spite of the fact that Connecticut is actually part of New England, it is regularly assembled alongside New York and New Jersey as the Tri-state range. The state is named for the Connecticut River, a noteworthy U.S. stream that roughly cuts up the state. Connecticut is gotten from different anglicized spellings of an Algonquian word for long tidal river.

A Weekend Riding And Exploring The Railroad Museum Of New England - Day 1
The weekend was spent at the Connecticut Railroad Museum of New England . They run fan rides weekends only running from the nicely restored station at Thomaston, CT north to the Thomaston Dam, and then south toward Waterbury, CT where they stop at Fascia's Chocolate Factory and store and then go back north to Thomaston. This is our run today. Tomorrow we will go further north to the City of Torrington, CT where we can lay over for 2 hours to get lunch and explore the local shops. Their main source of revenue is freight serving the business south of Thomaston. The museum is a fan run organization and operates only on weekends and holidays.
We never go more than 25 MPH though the closeness of the foliage a rock at times are a blur.
Clip 1 & 2 switching the engine for the ride up to Thomaston Dam.
Clip 3 we back up for the ride to the dam and will head forward for the return trip. The route was built by blasting through the granite rocks. The material blasted out was used to build the dam after the great flood of 1955.
Clip 4 we proceed forward south from Thomaston Station to our stop at Fasia's Chocolate Factory and store where we get 20 minutes to have a snack before heading back north to Thomaston Station. Perhaps you can hear the conductor describing the ride and we get some loud whistle blasts as they whistle through the crossings. Because this is a working railroad the road bed is well kept at least on this part of the line. North of Thomaston is kept up but not as well as this part of the line. The State of Connecticut owns the line so all the material comes from the state. Track and the wooden ties are excess from other lines and also reused from lines that have been upgraded to concrete ties.
Clip 5 the engine has been put back on the head end and we proceed north back to Thomaston Station. The view out the window is from the other side. There are more businesses and residential houses on this side. The Naugatuck river meanders back and fourth and appears on this side also. There are many great spots for the sport fisherman in this part of the state along the river. We pass the Railroad's shop and storage facilities and a number of businesses that the railroad serves during the business week. You can see the railroad's storage and restoration shop as we pass by it and get a quick glimpse of the nicely restored F unit that is used at times. Right now it is getting some mechanical work done. This is where our train is stored for the night and weekdays.
The last clip is of the train backing down from Thomaston for the storage facility. The engine is kept on the front for our trip to Torrington tomorrow. Note the sound of the pea whistle which the conductor sounds when backing.
Railfanning Connecticut with Amazing Horn Shows from Amtrak & Shore Line East Trains!
At 02:42 is the best horn show you'll hear all day!
In this video some friends and I went down to Southern Connecticut to catch a few weekend trains in good weather. Incredibly, almost every crew of the day gave us some horn, including two EPIC horn shows form a friendly Shore Line East engineer! Hope you all enjoy!
Filmed February 2019 in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, East Lyme, and New London, Comnnecticut
Connecticut Southern local reverses though Springfield, Massachusetts
This video was shot at the Springfield, Amtrak station in Springfield, Massachusetts.
While with Millenniumforce (Alan Smith), we went out looking for trains, but couldn't missed a CSX autorack. Because we missed it, we decided to hang around the Springfield train station and even though there were no trains running, we did however see this Connecticut Southern local reversing some cars past the station.
Springfield Station is not a really good spot to film. Not much train action and the area is not a good area to be in. I mean if you know the area well for trains, you can film here, but i would not recommend coming here.
Enjoy!

Around and About New Jersey:Thomas Edison
Thomas Alva Edison's laboratory in West Orange was called an invention factory for good reason. Edison assembled a team of workers who helped him produce inventions on a regular schedule and for the purpose of making a profit.
Today Edison's West Orange laboratory is a national park. Ranger Ben Bolger takes a class on a tour of the site. He explains the steps in the invention process as the class visits Edison's library, storeroom and machine shop.
We learn about three of Edison's most important inventions -- the electric light, the phonograph and the motion picture camera. Charley Hummel demonstrates the workings of the early tinfoil phonograph. Ben Bolger shows how Edison improved the phonograph to make it more profitable. In order to profit from his motion-picture camera, Edison made movies and built the kinetoscope arcades in which to show them.
Finally, we learn how Edison's inventions changed the way we live, work and play, as students give their own answers to the question which of Thomas Edison's inventions was the most important?

Railfanning Highlights of 2015 Part 7: M&E/NJT, Selkirk Trip, June Freights, NEC & More!
Starting to get on the downhill for this series as we slowly grow closer to the end of the year, so here we go with a nice lengthy 54 minutes of trains!
Starting off the month of June, we find ourselves in Morristown to photograph some of the sights around M&E, focusing on the 3 new acquisitions from Bangor & Aroostook (#21, #23 & #79) all before they'd get repainted or scrapped. Following that comes 2 weekday morning trips to Denville to catch a few NJT Geeps, M&E running, and NS Dover-based local H-02; once with a short train and once with two engines for the URHS in Boonton, being RHSX Erie #436 and RHSX Ex. NJT #1878 with a Conrail caboose on the back. We then head down for some Bound Brook action, and get some first sights and shots after the completion of the floodgate at the west end of the platform. One neat train from that evening would also be NS 32A with a D9W leading 3 offline GP38-2's.
After that came one of the big trips of the year, being my first ever visit to Selkirk NY and the surrounding areas. We started off with a few trains at Waldwick NJ, luckily all of them having Geeps for power, then it was on the road north. The time had finally come and we arrived at the famous Ben's Bridge, overlooking CSX Selkirk Yard. Some pretty awesome sights and engines hanging around, and then it was off to Game Farm Rd for a few trains. Our next stop was CP VO for 2 trains, followed by 1 at Guilderland, a brief stop by Selkirk Yard once again and then off on an adventure. Meeting up with our buddy Brandon, we'd get a tour of NY State and were able to see engines and sights around the area, like Cargill equipment in the Port of Albany, old Alcos / coaches tagged up, searchlight signals, XO Tower, and the GE building. Finally, after nearly 13 hours, we had made it to our original goal, Amsterdam, and would see a WB Amtrak there before heading back east. With an epic sunset across the Mohawk River, we'd make one last stop by Rotterdam where we'd even see an MEC Guilford Rail high hood.
Coming back down into New Jersey, we'd make another Bound Brook and see quite a few trains, including a CSX oil with BNSF/BNSF power, the continuing combo Q438's of mixed freight / trash (this one with an HLCX trailing) and other trains. Later at night the fog came rolling in as we'd see a few more too. Next would be a late June trip with another bounty of trains including ... a YN2 SD40-2 leading, a CSX ACe, a CSX oil with CSX/BNSF/BNSF power, 33K making the old stop-and-cut at Bound Brook to work Manville, 20K with an Ex. UP SD9043MAC leading (which is now an SD70ACU), the NJT 100th Bombardier ALP45-DP, Engineer Ronnie helming his usual MA1 and18N with an SD80MAC leading. We continued into the night with the CSX Tropicana Juice train, which led to the next day with familiar power on 21M (20K's power from the previous day) and Engineer Sean at the throttle, a CSX oil with CSX/BNSF/NS power, an NS OLS D9W #9255 leading 20R/25Z, the remaining 2 NJT F40PH-2CATs that are in service, a CSX oil with CSX/BNSF/BNSF power, an epic Q190 with the only CSX YN2 GP38-2S trailing and NS 25R running as lite power.
Closing out this lengthy episode we are down in New Brunswick NJ at the Jersey Ave Station along Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. During a few hours in the hot sun, we got to see a fair amount of Arrow III's, some ACS-64's, Acela's, NJT Comet & Multilevel trains, Conrail local ME-2, an Amtrak Geomety / Track Inspection train and even a few Amtrak AEM-7's which would soon be on the way to retirement.

It is part of New England, although portions of it are often grouped with New York and New Jersey as the Tri-state area. The state is named for the Connecticut River, a major US river that approximately bisects the state. The word Connecticut is derived from various anglicized spellings of an Algonquian word for long tidal river.Connecticut's first settlers were Dutchmen who established a small, short-lived settlement called Fort Hoop in Hartford at the confluence of the Park and Connecticut Rivers. Half of Connecticut was initially part of the Dutch colony New Netherland, which included much of the land between the Connecticut and Delaware Rivers. The first major settlements were established in the 1630s by the English. Thomas Hooker led a band of followers overland from the Massachusetts Bay Colony and founded the Connecticut Colony; other settlers from Massachusetts founded the Saybrook Colony and the New Haven Colony. The Connecticut and New Haven colonies established documents of Fundamental Orders, considered the first constitutions in North America. In 1662, the three colonies were merged under a royal charter, making Connecticut a crown colony. This was one of the Thirteen Colonies that rejected British rule in the American Revolution.
Connecticut is the third smallest state by area, the 29th most populous, and the fourth most densely populated of the 50 states. It is known as the Constitution State, the Nutmeg State, the Provisions State, and the Land of Steady Habits. It was influential in the development of the federal government of the United States.
The Connecticut River, Thames River, and ports along Long Island Sound have given Connecticut a strong maritime tradition which continues today. The state also has a long history of hosting the financial services industry, including insurance companies in Hartford and hedge funds in Fairfield County.
Cheney Railroad at Hilliard St.
On December 20, 2008, the Manchester Land Conservation Trust led a walk at the old Cheney Railroad. In this video, we visit the section of the trail at Hilliard St., near a parcel of land that the Trust bought today, December 23, 2008. Now the rail trail is open from the North End of Manchester to West Middle Turnpike; previously we detoured at Hilliard St., walked east to Main St., north on Main St., and returned to the trail at Chapel St. The late Ray Davis, former school principal, and Malcolm Barlow, Land Trust President, are walking along in the snow.
