[Wikipedia] Contra Costa Canal
The Contra Costa Canal is a 47 mi (76 km) aqueduct in the U.S. state of California. Its construction began in 1937, with delayed completion until 1948 due to World War II shortages in labor and materials. A portion of the canal's right of way has been developed as the Contra Costa Canal Regional Trail, a biking and walking trail, and is managed by the East Bay Regional Park District.
Contra Costa County - Briones Peak Hike
Prepared to be charmed by this wild oasis surrounded by urban development. This loop hike offers vistas of the California Delta, Martinez refineries, Concord, & Walnut Creek. There also are eye-catching wildland panoramas. The large numbers of California Newts in upland ponds will astound you. While the views from Briones Peak are obscured by trees, there are outstanding viewpoints nearby. Emerge from a woodland to the eye-catching profile of Mount Diablo.
Concord Naval Weapon Station
Concord Naval Weapons Station was a military base established in 1942 north of the city of Concord, California at the shore of the Sacramento River where it widens into Suisun Bay. The station functioned as a World War II armament storage depot, supplying ships at Port Chicago. Concord NWS continued to support war efforts during the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War, processing and shipping thousands of tons of materiel out across the Pacific Ocean.[2] During World War II it also had a Naval Outlying Field at its southern edge of the base. It ceased being an operating airfield after World War II.

The town of Clayton
Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County, California, USA, and the 202nd largest in the U.S. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 121,780. Originally founded in 1869 as the community of Todos Santos by Salvio Pacheco, the name was changed to Concord within months. The city is a major regional suburban East Bay center within the San Francisco Bay Area, and is located just 31 miles (50 km) east of San Francisco. In terms of travelling distance on the ground, it is 29 miles (47 km) northeast of San Francisco, 22 miles (35 km) northeast from Oakland, 65 miles (105 km) southwest of Sacramento, and 51 miles (82 km) north of San Jose. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 30.1 square miles (78.1 km≤), all of it land. The focal point of downtown Concord is Todos Santos Plaza, which encompasses an entire city block and is known for its farmers market, free summer concerts, and large number of surrounding restaurants. Much of the area immediately around downtown has recently been redeveloped, with new high-density apartment and condominium projects to take advantage of the close proximity to public transportation and the vibrant area surrounding the park. Despite this, some crime and homelessness remain issues in the downtown area. To the north and east of downtown is the older residential area of Concord, with many homes dating back to before World War II. In the far northern edge of town is a primarily industrial area, dominated by the Tesoro Golden Eagle refinery (which is actually not located within city limits). The southeastern area of the city, centered along Clayton Road, is primarily residential and was mostly developed in the 1960s and 1970s. In the southwest area of the city is the primarily Latino neighborhood known as Four Corners, centered around the intersection of Monument Boulevard and Oak Grove Road. Concord is bordered on the west by Pleasant Hill and the unincorporated community of Pacheco, on the south by Walnut Creek, on the southeast by Clayton, on the northeast by Pittsburg and the unincorporated community of Bay Point, and on the north by the unincorporated community of Clyde. Though it shares no border with Concord, Martinez (the county seat) is located almost immediately adjacent to Concord on the northwest.

Concord CA made some wonderful additions to their bike trail, allowing it to go under streets which would severely slow a bicyclist. They happened to have a river to build the 'underpasses' next to. A 10-12 minute drive to the hardware store takes only 20 on the bike. And it's a nice ride. Oh yeah, I edited out straight sections and added subtitles (1st time. yea!).
