Take a Cooking Class in Rome, Italy
Learn how to make authentic Roman-style pasta, fried seasonal specialties, and grandmas’ dessert, from scratch, in a cozy restaurant in the Jewish section of Rome's center, with one of our cooking classes. This is a hands-on class, but if you’d just like to be a spectator you can relax, watching her work, while working on your own glass of wine. You’ll learn to make homemade pasta from scratch, clean and prepare seasonal vegetables to fry, and create a simple and tasty dessert that all Roman grandmas used to cook for local kids. TRAVEL DIARY: Cooking Class In Rome, Italy!
Hey y’all!
Welcome to my first travel diary! I’m a Southern Belle through and through but I love to travel and I can’t wait to share with you this video of the Ravioli and Meatballs Cooking Experience I just had in Rome, Italy!
I booked the Eat and Walk Italy cooking class through Viator and it was super easy to find a class that fit our sight-seeing schedule whilst in Rome.
Just follow this link:
Caterina, our host was exceptional and I can not recommend the experience enough. Even for a “non-cook” like me, I found the class to be informative and enjoyable. I felt like a professional chef after I was all done!
Below, I’ve shared her recipe!
Pasta, 1 person
Ingredients:
100 grams of 00 flour
1 medium egg
1 pinch of salt
Processing:
Put the flour in the shape of a pyramid and make a hole in the centre, add a pinch of salt and put the egg in the middle, begin to work the egg with a fork and add the flour slowly, once the ingredients are blended, knead the dough for 5 minutes.
Filling:
Ricotta cheese, Parmesan, spinach, salt and pepper
Meatballs 4/6 :
400 grams of beef or veal
1 egg
40 grams of Parmesan cheese
40 grams of breadcrumbs
4 slices of pancarré or 2 entire slices of bread soaked for 5 minutes in water or milk.
Salt
Pepper
Tomato sauce in “Pizzaiola” style:
250 ml of tomato sauce
250 ml of water
1 garlic
Oregano
3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
Pizzaiola sauce:
Cook the garlic with extra virgin olive oil and add tomato sauce. Use the same quantity of tomato and water (e.g. if you use 1 bottle of water you will use 1 bottle of tomato sauce) then add salt and oregano.
Put meatballs in the sauce and continue cooking for 40/50 minutes, add some water if you reduce the sauce too much.

Elena has been running Borgo Argenina for 20 years and has been featured by Rick Steves and in 1000 Things to do Before you Die.
If there is one thing you must do in Tuscany or in Italy for that matter, it's to learn how to make handmade pasta in the traditional style.
Located in the heart of Tuscany, this villa feels like a movie set. Dave and I said that we felt like were starring in our own version of Under the Tuscan Sun.
Elena has a beautiful villa decorated in traditional Tuscan styles where you feel as if you have stepped back in time. It's elegant and beautiful and the cooking class is definitely a highlight.
Well, next to watching the sunset over the vineyard while sipping a class of Chianti.
If you are traveling to Italy, this is a vacation you will never forget. Elena recommends staying four nights and we agree. We stayed four nights and felt that we needed more time to explore the countryside, the surrounding vineyards, castles and monasteries. Tuscany is truly a beauty of Italy.
You won't regret spending time in this magnificent Tuscan Villa with Elena and her dogs and cats.
