30th Anniversary of the Opening of Cooma Cottage, in Yass, the home of Hamilton Hume, the first Australian born Explorer. The Cottage was bought by Mary Griffiths then gifted to the National Trust.

[Wikipedia] Cooma Cottage
Cooma Cottage is one of the oldest surviving rural houses in Yass, New South Wales. It has historic significance as a relatively intact complex of rural buildings. It has a variety of significant natural and built elements, including an example of an early tree called the Picconia, a relative of the olive and rare in Australia, which is almost extinct in its native Canary Islands.
Cooma Cottage stands as evidence of what the first settlers built for themselves, their families and servants. The handmade bricks and crafted woodwork are the result of local skills and manufacturing. The cottage grew from a bungalow through a series of additions over the 19th century.
The cottage has important heritage values as the home of Hamilton Hume for more than 30 years from 1839, after he ended his travels and became a grazier. It is a valuable part of the early development of the merino wool industry in Australia.

Yass HealthOne Opening
Today I attended the formal opening of the Yass HealthOne facility at The Yass Hospital. The project was funded by NSW Health to the amount of $1.5m to better co-ordinate the spectrum of patient care between the Health Service, general practitioners and other health care providers in the Yass area.

Yass, New South Wales
Yass /ˈjæs/[2] is a town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Yass Valley Council. The name appears to have been derived from an Aboriginal word, Yarrh (or Yharr), said to mean 'running water'.[3]
Yass is located about 280 km south-west of Sydney, on the Hume Highway. The Yass River, which is a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River, flows past the town. Yass is 59 km from Canberra.
Yass has an impressive and historic main street, with well-preserved 19th century verandah post pubs (mostly converted to other uses). It is popular with tourists, some from Canberra and others taking a break from the Hume Highway.
The Pride of Erin Festival and Yass Show are held in March and the Yass Arts-and-Crafts Festival in November.
Cooma Trust
The National Trust say they can no longer fund some historic landmarks and homesteads, one of which is the former home of explorer Hamilton Hume.
