Copper Run Distillery, Walnut Shade, MO 1st Annual Wine and Shine Festival.
The Next Of Kin perform Just A Closer Walk With Thee. Bio: Paul Speed and the Next of Kin consists at it's core of Paul Speed Lead Vocal/Guitar, and David Dean White on Dobro and Steel Guitar. While frequently performing as a duo, they often share a Hootenanny stage or truckbed with other Next of Kin musical pals. Joining them on the Copper Run stage will be Curtis Miller/Mandolin, Chad Harris/Harmonica and Buddy Lewis/Stand Up Bass. Much of their repertoire springs from the great Americana singer/songwriters of our time, often overlooked, and never found on the radio, e.g. Steve Earle, John Prine, Gram Parsons, Robert Earle Keen, etc. Although, some of the bands favorites do include those who actually did make radio hits, such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson. Equally dear to their hearts are the timeless crooners of yesteryear, such as Hank Williams Sr. and Roy Acuff.
As the name might imply, the Next of Kin do not shun the sad songs, where wrecks happen on the highway or condemned prisoners prepare to meet their fate. But in life and a Next of Kin setlist, wildwood flowers do bloom, and a few old gospel tunes and bluegrass diddies will help get you through the night. That and a tin cup of some of the finest moonshine the Ozarks has to offer.
Our Afternoon at the Copper Run Distillery
Yesterday, Gail and I took a drive through the Ozark Mountains. We headed south on Highway 65 and turned off at county highway BB. After driving several miles we made a left onto highway 176, drove south about five miles, then turned west onto Day road. In two or three minutes, we turned into the parking lot of the Copper Run Distillery.
Once inside we sample some of their merchandise - moonshine (unaged corn liquor), whiskey (moonshine that has been aged in charred white oak barrels), and rum (distilled sugar cane spirits).
A little while later the Peppersauce Alley String Band arrived and played several sets of old time mountain music as we sat on the sofa in the parlor sipping whiskey sours, moonshine margaritas, and rum punches.
