Coronado California: See things to do in Coronado Island
Welcome to Coronado, California! I'm TourGuideTim and I look forward to showing you many great things to do in Coronado during your visit to San Diego.
In this video, I try to give you a feel for what it is like on Coronado Island. (Technically, it's not an island because it is connected by what is known as the Silver Strand, but the easiest ways to reach Coronado, is to cross the San Diego - Coronado Bay Bridge or to take the San Diego Ferry to Coronado.)
The Hotel Del Coronado is in the background of the video with the red roof tops. It is at the opposite end of the island from the Coronado Ferry Landing, about 1.25 miles away. Orange Avenue is the main street connecting the two ends of Coronado and is the street behind me in the video.
Coronado is a wonderful place to visit when you are in San Diego. To lean what to do in Coronado, be sure to visit my San Diego Travel Website TourGuideTim.com and click on the 'Coronado' link in the sidebar to learn about all the great things to do on Coronado.

Coronado Island Coronado is a resort city located in San Diego County, California,
#whereintheworldisnadia Coronado Island Coronado is a resort city located in San Diego County, California, across the San Diego Bay from downtown San Diego.[8] It was founded in the 1880s and incorporated in 1890. Its population was 24,697 at the 2010 census,[5][6] up from 24,100 at the 2000 census.
Coronado lies on an island connected to the mainland by a tombolo called the Silver Strand. In 1602 the explorer Sebastian Vizcaino gave the island its name and drew its first map. In 2012 Dr. Stephen Leatherman, Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research, ranked Coronado Beach as the best beach in the United States.[9]
Coronado is Spanish for crowned one, and thus it is nicknamed The Crown City. Three ships of the United States Navy have been named after the city, including USS Coronado.

Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado, California - Best Travel Destination
Hotel del Coronado (also known as The Del and Hotel Del) is a beachfront luxury hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States (after the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon) and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977 and a California Historical Landmark in 1970. When it opened in 1888, it was the largest resort hotel in the world. It has hosted presidents, royalty, and celebrities through the years. The hotel has been featured in numerous movies and books. The hotel received a Four Diamond rating from the American Automobile Association and was once listed by USA Today as one of the top ten resorts in the world, though it has since been removed from that list. One of the largest and oldest resorts on the Pacific Coast, Hotel del Coronado occupies 28 acres of oceanfront property at Coronado Beach, 5 miles from downtown San Diego. Recently renovated, the Victorian-era Hotel del Coronado offers pools, a spa/salon, fitness center, boat rentals, beach equipment and yoga classes, and children's programs. Guestrooms in the main original building have period decor, while Ocean Tower rooms have balconies and are more modern in style. All have The Sea designer toiletries and windows that open.

Coronado Island, Best beach in USA???
Situated just across the bay from downtown San Diego, Coronado is consistently voted best beach in the U.S. by Dr. Beach. With gentle surf, sparkling wide-sand beaches, charming main street and great hotels, including the famous Hotel del Coronado, this island paradise is perfect for a family vacation or romantic getaway.
Coronado's coastline offers wide sandy beaches with sparkling sand, courtesy of the mineral Mica, that draw visitors from around the world. With its elegant gardens, old-world mansions, quaint shops, and oceanfront dining with spectacular sunset views, no wonder this charmed small town has been dubbed The Crown City, as Coronado means the crowned one in Spanish.
Spend the day relaxing on the beach or rent a bike and tour the island via Coronado's beachfront boardwalk. Take a stroll down Orange Avenue, Coronado's main artery, which is lined with shops, restaurants, galleries, theaters and the Coronado Museum of History & Art. At the other end of the island, Coronado's Ferry Landing offers a collection of more than 20 shops, art galleries and restaurants boasting stunning views of San Diego's downtown skyline. Flagship Cruises also offers low cost ferry service from the landing across the bay to Seaport Village on the edge of downtown.
Beyond the beach, Coronado features countless outdoor recreational pursuits including sailing, stand-up paddling, surfing, kayaking, and Venetian gondola cruises. There’s also top-rate golf on Coronado’s Public Golf Course, described as “a gem I consider the best value in the United States by Golf Digest writer Matt Ginella. Locals and visitors alike also love the popular Coronado Flower Show, held each spring since 1922.
And no trip to Coronado would be complete without a visit to the legendary Hotel del Coronado. Built in 1888 and designated a National Historic Landmark, the hotel has a fascinating and colorful past, which includes presidents and princes, socialites and scandals, ghosts and glamorous celebrities. It's also widely believed to have been the inspiration for the Emerald City in L. Frank Baum's “Wizard of Oz” as the author spent many winters at the oceanfront hotel.
Swastika Shaped Building Complex Coronado, California, USA
The story of the US Navy's giant swastika-shaped barracks, built in the late 1960's and located at the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, just South of San Diego, has been all over the news. Rightly so - it's the biggest government subsidized swastika display on Earth.
Below is a YouTube presentation - a simple silent slide show of clips taken of views, through Google Earth, that zoom in, from space, on the giant NAB swastika complex.
The US media has now deigned to make this story into a major media spectacle. But, media depictions you may have heard in the last 24 hours, on the origin of the giant swastika-barracks which houses Navy SEALS, will probably all amount to evasion, distortions, or even lies.
