This Is Why You Should Travel to COSTA RICA
As a country that is still opening up to tourism, Costa Rica is beautifully unspoilt. With hot, dry weather in winter, and wildlife wherever you turn, it is a stunning destination for sun-seekers, animal lovers and adventurers. And in 2019, it has never been easier for all types of tourists to visit.
The Costa Rican national motto “pura vida”, literally “pure life”, has attracted backpackers for decades. Used by locals as a greeting to mean “take it easy” or “enjoy life”, the phrase sums up the country’s laid-back vibe.
But Costa Rica doesn’t just attract a backpacking crowd any more. Thanks to a series of new non-stop flights from Europe, the country is attracting more families and couples as well.
A three-and-a-half-hour flight from Houston, Texas, it has typically attracted more tourists from North America. But while package hotels close to the airport still draw a large American crowd, eco-lodges further down the coast are aimed more at Europeans.
Costa Rica prides itself on being one of the world’s most sustainable countries; rather than star ratings, the Costa Rican tourist board awards hotels with “leaves” for their eco efforts.
Locals are keen to protect their natural surroundings for good reason. Costa Rica is teeming with wildlife, boasting more species of birds than all of North America. The parrot-like quetzal and red-eyed tree frog are most distinctively Costa Rican, but the country boasts a much wider variety of animals than those pictured on the front of guide books.
To see some of Costa Rica’s most renowned natural delights, it’s necessary to brave some treacherous roads: the only downside to visiting so unspoilt a country are the rocky tracks that make even the shortest journeys tiring. The roads along the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula are particularly bad – unless you get your thrills from driving through mini rivers. A 4×4 is essential in rainy season, and strongly advised even in dry months.
Costa Rica’s 12 climate zones mean the weather can vary drastically, and it is notably different in wet, overcast Monterverde to the balmy beaches in Nicoya Peninsula. The Caribbean coastline is the most humid, while Guanacaste – in the north of the peninsula – receives the least rain.
The beaches in the area are largely volcanic, which add to their prehistoric feel. Palm trees, rugged foliage and dark sand give the more remote shores a distinct Jurassic Park sensation. White sandy beaches can be found further down the coast. At the region’s southern tip, Santa Teresa and Montezuma beaches attract surfers who come for a season of wave-catching – or do so and never leave. Tourists dominate Santa Teresa town, but the long, golden beach makes it worth a visit.
Costa Rica offers plenty to do for everyone, from horse riding to paddle boarding. But the prospect of moving from the pool was too much for most of my family when we stayed in an Airbnb in Guanacaste. The thought of turning into a sloth became far more appealing than actually seeing one. We all took the “pura vida” to heart. Anyone visiting Costa Rica would struggle not to.

Welcome to PUERTO VIEJO! Costa Rica's Hidden Gem
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a bit of an undiscovered beach town gem on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
We spent a day showing you around starting out with our great open air AirBNB in the middle of the jungle just outside of the town.
We then heading into town, walking along Black Beach (Playa Negra), flying our drone while we go. On our way into town we discover in old barge in the water, sunken to create a breakwater.
After walking along the water for awhile, we head into town to get some lunch and find a cute cafe/bookstore called Cafe Rico.
Afterwards we head back to the water where we spot a sunken sailing ship just off the shore.

Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a town in southeast Costa Rica, on the Caribbean coast. It’s known for the Salsa Brava surf break and beaches like black-sand Playa Negra. The Jaguar Rescue Center rehabilitates wild cats and other animals. Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge has rainforest, wetlands and mangroves. To the north, Cahuita National Park protects a large coral reef and has a shipwreck dive site.
Puerto Viejo is the largest tourist destination on Costa Rica's small Caribbean coast. Other nearby communities are Cahuita, Cocles, Punta Uva and Manzanillo . The vibe here is laid-back, Caribbean-style with a great diversity of people living here and visiting here.
Playa Negra, the paradise for surfers.
Known for its world-class waves and breaks, Playa Negra is a surfer's paradise. Famous as the filming location for the cult classic, Endless Summer II, this beach sits along the northwestern region of Guanacaste along the northern Pacific coast. But this small beach community has more to offer than just its surfing breaks. From great hotels, resorts and budget lodges to renowned cafes and local delicacies, Playa Negra has a little something to offer every visitor. Enjoy the laid-back Tico lifestyle here while escaping the hustle of other surf-centric communities along the Pacific Coast. Those staying here will also be just a short drive away from Marino Las Baulas National Park, which is a famous nesting ground for the leatherback turtles.

Tabacon Hot Springs Resort, Arenal, Costa Rica.
Our visit to the hot springs in Costa Rica whilst on our Panama Canal Cruise.
This was a long day trip involving a 3 hour drive each way from the port. However it was well worth the visit. You can describe this place as heaven inside the jungle. The water felt like a hot tub...so warm....The hot springs are located downstream of an active volcano. Although they have been adapted for tourism it was still quite a natural setting with many paths leading to different waterfalls. One of our favorite days. Would definitely go back
Baldi Hot Springs in La Fortuna, Costa Rica Arenal
If you're visiting the La Fortuna/Areanl area, the HOT SPRINGS is a must Do. Baldi Hot Springs is one of the top 2 hot springs in the La Fortuna area, with the other one being the world famous Tabacon Hot Springs. Baldi Hot Springs is cheaper than Tabacon and draws a younger crowd, but has a more Disney-esque feel to it. But you won't be disappointed, no one ever is. So after a day of white-water rafting, waterfall repelling, zip-lining, nature hiking, ATV'ing, bike riding or whatever else you may get into in La Fortuna, the hot springs is a great way to relax. In this video, D'Angelo takes you on a little tour of Baldi Hot Springs, so you can see what it's like. I would also encourage you to visit my blog where I compare the two: Check out a tour around Baldi Hot Springs. Want to know the difference between Tabacon and Baldi?

Craft Beer and Artisan Cheese Pairing at Furca - Costa Rica Culinary Tours
We're at Furca for a craft beer and cheese pairing dinner in San Jose Costa Rica. Where are you at?
Las Tres Tortugas - Ocean View Home / Small Hotel for Sale in Costa Rica (Junquillal)
More details:
Las Tres Tortugas is the perfect fit for those who dream of living in a tropical paradise, while receiving guests to share all the beauty of nature around and the luxury of quiet and peace.
It consists of three independent buildings sitting on a 3,943m2 lot, granting privacy for owners and guests. The main house, surrounded by tropical gardens, allows for quiet family living for the owners, while being steps away from the one-bedroom cottage and the 3 private suites for guests. The manicured pathways and landscaped garden guarantee privacy for each of the three separate buildings.
Not only the set up, but also the location is ideal for a small hotel: with public road frontage, allowing for commercial activity, yet inside a residential community with 24-hour guard and unlimited access to the high-end amenities for guests and owners. A double infinity edge pool with separate lap lanes and swim up table area, a solar heated Jacuzzi, a gym and fitness center, a yoga studio, a tennis court and a club House with cook- out areas, all form part of daily life at Las Tres Tortugas.
The main house, with an under roof surface of 239m2, allows for ample family living, with an open kitchen with dining area and a guest bedroom on the ground floor, and ample terraces looking out over the tropical garden. The very spacious master bedroom with ample bathroom on the second floor offers an ocean view! The huge second floor terrace even provides space for expansion with a third bedroom.
Walking down from the main house through the garden, one first reaches the one-bedroom guest house, which can easily host up to four guests by using the pull-out sofa in the living area. A fully equipped kitchen and a private bathroom complete the comfort of the guests.
A little further down the pathway, the building housing 3 identical private suites is nestled quaintly and privately between the tropical plants. Each suite is provided with a king size bed, a kitchenette with refrigerator, a full bathroom and a private terrace, from where the guests can enjoy the sounds of nature around and watch hummingbirds and iguanas roam around in the garden.
All bedrooms in the main house and independences are equipped with air conditioning units and fans.
The garden has been manicured and an automatic, programmable irrigation system ensures that the mature fruit trees, such as lime and mango, orange and papaya, guanabana, manzana de agua and guyava just to name a few, provide fresh fruit throughout the year.
Las Tres Tortugas has a private entrance directly from the main road, but can also be accessed through the main gate of the residential community.
The lot itself offers room for expansion, yet if that would not be enough, the neighboring lot of 5,394m2 could be purchased as well.
The pristine beaches of Playa Junquillal and Playa Blanca are only 2 kilometers away and can be reached walking, biking or driving. Playa Junquillal is one of the country’s most important nesting beaches for Leatherback, Olive Ridley and Black Turtles, and was awarded an “Ecological Blue Flag” for being one of Costa Rica’s cleanest beaches. Experienced surfers can try their luck with the fast beach breaks that roll in at Playa Junquillal, or you can also wade or swim in the calmer areas or meander along the water’s edge on the 2-mile stretch of beach. It’s not uncommon to catch a glimpse of dolphins, whales or stingrays jumping out at sea. Sunset on the beach is a daily spectacle you won’t want to miss.
In short, this property has all you need for luxury family living in the tropics while generating income from hosting guests: location, set up, permits, luxury amenities, nature, beach, tranquility. With some extra marketing effort one can make this place a thriving business, while savoring the same delights of life in the tropics as the guests by living on site!

Baldi Hot Springs Fortuna Arenal Costa Rica
Hey Everyone! Finally we re-did our Baldi Hot Springs REVIEW. Baldi Hot Springs is located a couple miles outside of La Fortuna Arenal area and is ONE of the 3 more popular hot springs options in La Fortuna. The other two being Tabacon and Eco Termales. Baldi Hot Springs is big, cheap and probably the BIGGEST BANG for your buck if that's what you're looking for, but it is also fairly touristy and almost seems like it could be located right next to Disneyland. Baldi has like 25 pools in various sizes and temperatures, swim-up bars, water slides, KIDS, dinner buffets, loud music and definitely draws a younger crowd for the most part... and in the past couple years the vegetation has really matured and it's looking MUCH nicer and tropical than it once did. Like I mentioned, we did a video before on Baldi, but we shot it from the back of a golf cart and it was quite a long time ago, this is a MUCH better version. So if you're thinking about checking out the HOT SPRINGS when you're in La Fortuna viewing the Arenal Volcano, you might want to CHECK OUT this video. Hope it helps, ENjoY!

Costa Rica
Costa Rica's remarkable biodiversity comes wrapped in a rainbow of colors -- cloud rainforest dressed in a hundred shades of green; pristine beaches of white, beige and black sand; waterfalls of turquoise and jade; red volcanoes and romantic orange sunsets.
Anyone who loves the outdoors will savor Costa Rica's wealth of national parks and wildlife reserves. This peaceful country remains center stage, the star of Central America. It has no army, and it enjoys one of the highest literacy rates in the world. Travelers can be as active as they choose, experiencing a bird's-eye view on a walk through treetop canopies, or skipping across the waves in an ocean outrigger. There are opportunities for mountain biking, rafting, horseback riding, hiking, bird watching, world-class sports fishing, zip lining canopy tours and rappelling in waterfalls. There is also the chance to spend time with the indigenous Maleku people of the Arenal and northern region, learning about their lives and skills for arts and crafts. The Children's Eternal Rainforest is the largest private reserve in Central America, and has been declared part of the Peace and Water Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Costa Rica is just the place to scale an active volcano or reenergize with a luxurious spa treatment. One of the world's best organized countries for nature-based travel, Costa Rica also features a range of delightful inns, hotels, and lodges in exceptional settings, including excellent beach resorts along the Pacific coast. Need another reason to love Costa Rica? Beyond all this glorious nature and adventure, Costa Rica is serious about sustainability. It is striving to reach complete carbon neutrality by 2021 -- an ambitious but worthy goal.
